| 1 | Dorial Green-Beckham | WR | Missouri Tigers | HC Pinkel: DGB is 'a different guy' this year
Missouri HC Gary Pinkel believes sophomore WR Dorial Green-Beckham is "a different guy" this season. "He catches the ball so well, he can turn an average play into a big play, and I think we’re starting to see really how good he can be," Pinkel added. "He’s getting more comfortable with executing his assignments, and he’s getting the ball, he’s getting open and making plays," new offensive coordinator Josh Henson said. "And I think all those things lend to your personality coming out, feeling more comfortable in your skin." |
| 2 | Mario Edwards | DT | Florida State Seminoles | Seminoles freshman Edwards now third DE
Florida State true freshman Mario Edwards is now considered the third DE in the rotation. It is quite a quick move up the depth chart for Edwards, who coaches were considering redshirting even through week one of the season. However, after senior Brandon Jenkins went down for the season and Tank Carradine had to step up into the starting lineup, Edwards was left as the most talented player on the bench. |
| 3 | D.J. Humphries | T | Florida Gators | Gators T Humphries will likely see many snaps
Florida offensive coordinator Brent Pease hinted that freshman T D.J. Humphries will see plenty of snaps during this Saturday's game against LSU. Humphries was the nation's top high school offensive tackle recruit and will likely push inconsistent senior left tackle Xavier Nixon for playing time. LSU obviously deploys plenty of edge rushing talent, and Nixon's inability to keep on weight or consistently anchor may lead to a switch on the blind side. |
| 4 | Arik Armstead | DE | Oregon Ducks | Weidl: Keep an eye on Ducks DE Armstead
Scouts Inc.'s Kevin Weidl believes Oregon sophomore DE Arik Armstead is a name to keep an eye on. "Raw but a grown man out there as a true freshman," Weidl writes. "Has a chance to be big time." Armstead is only a sophomore in 2013, so we will see him play college ball for at least two more season, but his 6'8/280 pound frame is very intriguing. The Ducks defense remains quite talented. |
| 5 | T.J. Yeldon | RB | Alabama Crimson Tide | Tide RB Yeldon's teammates think he's special
Alabama freshman RB T.J. Yeldon's teammates already believe the back is a special talent. "I think it was the play he ran 50 yards down the field, the first one," senior right guard Anthony Steen said. "When we got in the huddle, we all were smiling, and we knew what was about to happen." Junior Eddie Lacy understandably drew most of the attention prior to this season, but Yeldon appears to be more of the big play threat moving forward for the Crimson Tide. |
| 6 | Shaq Thompson | S | Washington Huskies | Thompson chooses football over baseball
Washington freshman DB Shaq Thompson has chosen to stick with football after beginning his minor league baseball career 0-for-39 with 37 strikeouts. Thompson was projected as a two sport star for the Huskies but will now focus on football according Mark McDermott of the Sacramento Bee. The freshman was an 18th round pick by the Red Sox and spent the summer with the organization's minor league. Thompson will compete for time at free safety. |
| 7 | Johnathan Gray | RB | Texas Longhorns | Johnathan Gray will be first RB off bench
Texas freshman RB Johnathan Gray will be the first ball carrier off the bench to relieve sophomore starter Joe Bergeron due to sophomore Malcolm Brown's injury. According to ESPN's Carter Strickland, "It's clear Gray has become more comfortable in the offense in the past two weeks." Gray is averaging just over six yards per carry and was a prized recruit coming out of high school. "He trusts that we're going to try to put him in successful situations, and when we do, he's going to go out there and take over and make plays for us," Texas co-offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin said. |
| 8 | Nelson Agholor | WR | USC Trojans | Lane Kiffin sees Nelson Agholor as RB/WR
Coach Lane Kiffin likes Nelson Agholor, who will enroll this fall, as both a tailback and receiver. Kiffin thinks enough of Agholor’s skill and mindset that the soon-to-be-freshman can learn what it takes to make it work at both positions. The coach also likens his maturity level to that of receiver Robert Woods. With Tre Madden felled by a knee injury that will cost him the 2012 season, Agholor is the guy that could fill the duel-role Madden was slated for. |
| 9 | Jameis Winston | QB | Florida State Seminoles | Freshman QB Jameis Winston in line to start
FSU redshirt freshman Jameis Winston appears to be in line to start at QB for the Seminoles. Starter Clint Trickett plans on transferring, so Winston and Jacob Coker should battle for the job. After FSU's spring game, head coach Jimbo Fisher hinted that "the competition for the role was still very much open." Winston was 12-for-15 passing in a 205-yard, two-touchdown effort during the spring game. |
| 10 | Gunner Kiel | QB | Cincinnati Bearcats | Gunner Kiel ends up at Cincy after leaving ND
Former Notre Dame sophomore QB Gunner Kiel will transfer to Cincinnati. Kiel recently visited Cincinnati, Ball State and Miami University in Ohio and considered visiting Mississippi, while also discussing Kansas State and Mississippi State as possible landing spots. "Kiel will have three years of eligibility remaining and said he wanted a chance to compete for a starting position in 2014," per ESPN. |
| 11 | Thomas Johnson | WR | Texas A&M Aggies | Aggies WR Thomas Johnson has left the team
Texas A&M freshman WR Thomas Johnson, who went missing in November, has left the Aggies football program. Johnson is in the process of determining the direction his future. This may or may not include football, but if so expect Johnson to continue his career with another program. |
| 12 | Deontay Greenberry | WR | Houston Cougars | WR Deontay Greenberry switches to Houston
Four-star receiver Deontay Greenbery chooses Houston after planning to sign with Notre Dame. The change of heart shocked many. Rated No. 46 overall (No. 7 WR) by Scout.com, Greenbury set California state single-season receiving records for yards (2,165) and touchdowns (33). Greenberry has a football-playing cousin that enrolled at Notre Dame this winter. |
