Alvaro Negredo and Calum Chambers have said their goodbyes to the Riverside Stadium and now depart after finishing their season-long loan spells with Middlesbrough.
Negredo, who ended the season as the club's top scorer with 10 goals in all competitions, heads back Liga La outfit Valencia after making 39 appearances in total. While 31-year-old didn't have the strongest campaign, he managed to account for roughly 37 percent of Middlesbrough's 27 Premier League goals. Meanwhile, Chambers played a key role at the back after arriving from Arsenal in late September. The 22-year-old featured 26 times for Boro and helped them to the 10th best defensive record in the Premier League, while playing in both central and wide roles. May 23 - 1:15 PM

Alvaro Negredo led the charge for Middlesbrough in a 2-2 draw with former club Manchester City at the Riverside on Sunday.

The Spaniard once wore sky blue before he left for Valencia, returning to the Premier League to haunt his former club as it looks desperate for a Champions League berth. Negredo gave Middlesbrough the shock lead in the 38th minute, curling an effort off the post that sent the home faithful into a frenzy. After Sergio Aguero equalized from the spot after Maarten de Roon took down Leroy Sane in the box in the 69th, Negredo was back at it. He fought through a crowded penalty area following a free kick and shot a pass through to Calum Chambers for another lead in the 77th. But Gabriel Jesus was able to pull one back to steal a point for City, although a hard-earned point helps Middlesbrough keep pace with 17th-placed Swansea City.

Middlesbrough were unable to take advantage of Burnley's poor away form as they drew 0-0 at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

Steve Agnew's side are six points shy of safety and now face an uphill battle to stay afloat after the goalless draw at the Riverside. Throughout a slow first-half Burnley, yet to win away this season, looked the better as Robbie Brady clipped the top of the bar and George Boyd blasted wide 12 minutes later. After the restart, and the introduction of Alvaro Negredo, Middlesbrough went on the offensive. Negredo was first to threaten with a wonderful overhead kick that forced a strong push from Tom Heaton, while Stewart Downing and Daniel Ayala then saw chances cleared off the line. The draw leaves Boro in 19th but a point closer to 17th-placed Hull City, who lost 3-1 at Manchester City.

Middlesbrough are now seven points from safety after a 4-2 defeat to Hull City at the KCOM Stadium on Wednesday.

The high-scoring affair will go as a missed opportunity for Middlesbrough. Steve Agnew's side began the match in ideal fashion when Alvaro Negredo put Boro ahead in just the fifth minutes, sliding in to convert an Adama Traore cross. However, the Tigers equalized nine minutes later through Lazar Markovic before Oumar Niasse and Abel Hernandez scored within a six minute stretch to give the home a two-goal lead. With the match being to slip away, Boro were able to grab one back just before half-time when Marten de Roon headed home from inside the six-yard back despite being in an offside position. Although the controversial goal offered the visitors a lifeline, it was not enough to tilt the match in their favor. Hull controlled the second-half and sealed all three points when Harry Maguire headed home to make it 4-2 on 70 minutes. The defeat drops Middlesbrough to 19th, two points above Sunderland but five points behind 18th place Swansea.

Alvaro Negredo earned and converted a penalty that gave Middlesbrough a come-from-behind draw at home against West Bromwich Albion.

After a tumultuous couple of weeks between manager, club and supporters Middlesbrough got a solid point against a team in the top half of the table. They did so dominating possession but they couldn't muster a great deal from their advantage. With only three shots on target, including the penalty, there is still work to be done if Boro want to stay out of a relegation scrap.

Backed by the in-form Alvaro Negredo, Middlesbrough ran away with a 3-0 victory against Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.

Negredo was in fine form with his second two-goal performance of the season, all in the last month of action, kicking off the afternoon in the 18th minute when he connected with Adam Clayton's cross for the club's first goal. Just nine minutes later, the forward found the back of the net from the penalty spot after Adam Forshaw was taken down in the penalty area by Jordon Amat. And then Marten de Roon added a third in the second half for good measure with the assist going to Gaston Ramirez in his return from injury. Like Ramirez, Calum Chambers was able to overcome injury to play but Viktor Fischer went off in the 12th minute with an apparent problem.

However, Middlesbrough will be without Gaston Ramirez, for the second-straight match, and the still sidelined George Friend. Middlesbrough Starting XI: Valdes; Barragan, Chambers, Gibson, Fabio; Clayton, De Roon, Forshaw, Traore, Fischer; Negredo.

Alvaro Negredo, Gaston Ramirez and Jordan Rhodes are all doubts for Middlesbrough's trip to Southampton this Sunday.

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka has confirmed that Negredo, Ramirez and Rhodes all missed training on Friday and are doubts for this weekend's fixture. "I need to check tomorrow with the doctors," Karanka said. "The main thing for me is the players who are ready to play are ready to take that chance." While this doesn't necessarily mean any or all won't feature, the loss of Nergredo and Ramirez would be major blows to Karanka's side ahead of Sunday's fixture. If the duo is rule out then Cristhian Stuani and Viktor Fischer could be handed starting roles, while David Nugent would likely replace Rhodes on the bench.

Alvaro Negredo will be the man to watch when Middlesbrough face Hull City at home on Saturday.

Negredo, who netted a double in a 2-2 draw with champions Leicester City last weekend, will need another strong performance against fellow relegation candidates Hull City. Middlesbrough enter the match winless in their last three matches and just one point ahead of Hull in the relegation battle. However, Negredo has history on his side. The striker scored on his lone Premier League appearance against Hull, in August of 2013 for Manchester City, and has been directly involved in more league goals than any other member of Boro--three goals and three assists in 13 appearances.

Alvaro Negredo struck twice as Middlesbrough drew 2-2 at Leicester City on Saturday.

Alvaro Negredo produced a heroic brace against Leicester to ended his 10-match scoring drought. Boro produced the matches opening goal through Negredo when the forward swept his left-footed finish into the top corner of the net, over a diving effort from goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler. However, Negredo didn't stop there and scored his second of match to break the 1-1 deadlock in the 72nd minute. Negredo's third goal of the season came after he ran onto a ball over the top, which sent him through unmarked, and kept his cool with a superbly-struck volley past Zieler. While the match ended in a 2-2 draw, Negredo should have multiple chances to find his fourth goal of the season when Boro face Hull City next Monday.

Alvaro Negredo will look to end his scoring-drought when Middlesbrough clash with Chelsea this Sunday.

Confidence is running high for Boro, who are unbeaten in their last three Premier League. After drawing Arsenal and defeating Bournemouth, they produced last-minute heroics against Manchester City in Week 11. However, the one thing missing has been goals from on-loan forward Alvaro Negredo. Negredo, who scored a goal and tallied two assists in his two matches, has not found the net since Week 1. While the end product has eluded him, Negredo has attempted eight total shots over the course of his last three matches. The 31-year-old will look to end his 10-match scoring-drought against a Chelsea side that hasn't conceded since September, and enter the game unbeaten in their last five.

Alvaro Negredo needed just 11 minutes to score his first goal for Middlesbrough, but it was not enough to claim all three points from Stoke City as the Smoggies drew 1-1.

The 30-year-old would have claimed all the headlines if not for a curling second half free-kick by Xherdan Shaqiri, which leveled the match at its final score in the 67th minute. Negredo was not the only Tessider who impressed, Gsaton Ramirez provided the assist on the debutant's goal while also hitting the post with a blistering effort in the second half.

Middlesbrough have finalized their loan move for Valencia forward Alvaro Negredo.

Boro have historically struggled to recruit top tier forwards. In Negredo they have a player who has succeeded at least sporadically and offers hope as they rise back into to the Premier League. The 30-year-old former Manchester City man wasn't terrible at the Etihad (9G, 3A in 21 starts and 11 sub appearances) but neither did he light the world on fire. His 2015-16 season at Valencia was underwhelming with 5 goals and 2 assists in 12 starts and 13 sub appearances. This looks like the case of a big name who is unlikely to live up to it. At least this is only a loan for Boro and they aren't paying a big transfer fee for Negredo.

Middlesbrough is expected to announced a season-long loan move for Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo in the coming week.

The loan deal reportedly includes paying the full cost of Negredo's wages, which are close to £100,000-a-week, in addition to a small loan fee while his contract also includes a chance for Middlesbrough to make the move permanent. The former Manchester City forward has spent the last two seasons at the La Liga side, where he has scored only 10 goals since leaving the Etihad. Meanwhile, Negredo is expected to join former Valencia teammate in defender Antonio Barragan, who joined the Teessiders in a £2 million move last week.
