Victor Wanyama is deemed ready to start at Southampton after numerous rumors kept him out last week.
Wanyama is finally "mentally and physically" to feature for Southampton again after rumors and an illness kept him out last week. The defensive midfielder should be a set starter for the remainder of the season as long as he's healthy but his lack of goalscoring and offensive stats keep him low on the fantasy rankings. Use him in only the deepest of leagues. Sep 11 - 1:42 PM

Southampton have offered Victor Wanyama a new five-year deal as the player failed to transfer to Tottenham in the summer transfer window.

Wanyama submitted a transfer request this past transfer window to help facilitate a deal that sends him to Tottenham but Mauricio Pochettino never made a bid for him and Wanyama remains a Southampton player. The club want to keep him there, especially after losing Morgan Schneiderlin, and have offered him a new five-year deal. It's unknown if Wanyama will accept, but except him to remain at Southampton at least until the January transfer window.

Victor Wanyama's Kenya were beaten by Zambia by 2-1.

The Southampton defensive midfielder captained Kenya in their 2017 CAF African Cup of Nations today but couldn't lead them to a win. Wanyama overcame an illness to be able to start the match and now seems to be fully fit for next week's Premier League match. Wanyama is only a fantasy option in the deepest of leagues as he provides almost no attacking stats.

Victor Wanyama will miss Thursday's clash versus FC Midtjylland and is questionable for the weekend due to an illness.

Wanyama is fully ruled out for tomorrow's match amidst rumors of him leaving Southampton and many believe the two are related. That could certainly be the case but Ronald Koeman has ruled out any more transfers so we'll have to assume Wanyama is a Southampton player until we know otherwise. Check back on his status for the weekend on Friday.

In comments made to Kenyan TV, Victor Wanyama has reiterated his desire to move from St. Mary's to the Emirates this summer.

With Francis Coquelin seemingly ensconced as the starting "midfield destroyer", the fit between Wanyama and Arsenal seems like an odd one. Certainly the Gunners could use depth behind Coquelin but would Wanyama, a preferred starter for the Saints, want to play a reserve/rotational role. Likewise, would Arsenal be willing to pay the price necessary to acquire Wanyama from Southampton if he weren't going to be an obvious upgrade in a starting position? This one seems to be more a remnant of the the pre-Coquelin era at Arsenal that is lingering on Wanyama's personal wish list but it doesn't seem likely to happen.

Victor Wanyama will be suspended for two matches after picking up his tenth booking of the season.

Ronald Koeman believes Wanyama was unlucky to get a yellow but the fact is that he was booked and will be suspended. That's a big loss for Southampton as they looked especially strong in the middle of the pitch today with Wanyama and Morgan Schneiderlin pulling the strings. The Saints are in a tight battle for a top six spot and Wanyama's suspension could prove costly here. Steven Davis will likely play alongside Schneiderlin next week, with someone else slotting in for him on the attacking side.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Victor Wanyama and Morgan Schneiderlin will be available for Saturday’s game against QPR.

Victor Wanyama and Morgan Schneiderlin returned to training, with both set to be available at Loftus Road. Speaking to Southampton’s official YouTube channel, Koeman said: "Victor Wanyama is now coming back, Morgan Schneiderlin is coming back, but still one or two more weeks for Toby Alderweireld."

Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin was absent from Wednesday nights’ FA Cup win over Ipswich Town after picking up an injury which is likely to keep him sidelined for between 2/3 weeks.

Pre-match the official social media account confirmed Schneiderlin was out due to a ‘slight knock’ although it was later confirmed the player had suffered an adductor [groin] strain and the injury situation was made a lot worse on 45 minutes tonight when Victor Wanyama pulled up with a hamstring injury. Saints have now lost three players to muscular injuries in the last three days with Toby Alderweireld expected to miss the remainder of January. However Southampton can at least count on the timely return of Jack Cork [ankle] after a month out while Jake Hesketh was named among the substitutes for the third round replay after recovering from a knee injury.

Victor Wanyama scored an unlikely goal from 40 yards out in the second minute and Southampton made that lead stand up for the rest of the match as they beat Hull City 1-0 at the KC Stadium.

Southampton are THE story of the season so far with their 10th win in their last eleven matches in all competitions. They have to consider themselves lucky this time around as a poor clearance from third string goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic gave Wanyama the chance to strike from long range with the net unguarded. Regardless of the outcome of the Manchester Derby tomorrow, the Saints will maintain their hold on second place for another week.

Victor Wanyama scored his first goal for Southampton to give the Saints an impressive three points away from home.

The assist came from Graziano Pelle, the striker who has been in hot form for the past few matches. Southampton and Swansea were matched well in the first half but after Wilfried Bony was sent off in the 39th minute, Saints took more and more control of the match and eventually got the winner they were looking for. Some soccer analytics guys now have Southampton at anywhere from 20-40% chance of finishing in the top four and that speaks a lot about the quality this team has brought this season.

Victor Wanyama captained Kenya on the way to a 1-1 draw against Comoros earlier but the draw was good enough to send Kenya on the next round of qualifications for the 2015 African Cup of Nations.

Wanyama was a big part of what Southampton did this season and he seems to have carried his leadership on to his national team. Wanyama suffered through a series of injuries late in the season and it's good to see him healthy again. If he remains at Southampton, he will continue to be a big part of their team. Wanyama doesn't do enough on the stats sheet to be a good fantasy pick and is much better in real life than in fantasy.

Victor Wanyama has looked healthy for the past few weekends after returning from multiple leg injuries.

Wanyama finally looks healthy again but he has had a very slow fantasy output despite how good he's looked on the pitch. Wanyama will probably play in Southampton's final match of the season but we don't recommend him for fantasy purposes. The same message applies for Morgan Schneiderlin - healthy but not a good fantasy performer as of late.

Victor Wanyama will be assessed before Southampton's match against Manchester City this weekend.

Wanyama has missed about a month with a leg injury and has been close to returning for a while so we won't be surprised with him returning or being ruled out. This news makes both Wanyama and James Ward-Prowse poor fantasy options this week as there is a lot of uncertainty around who the Saints midfield will be comprised of.

Victor Wanyama continues to be a doubt for Southampton's home match against Newcastle on Saturday.

Wanyama missed last week due to a leg injury and is once again doubtful. Jack Cork is healthy again so he should get the start against Newcastle. Wanyama has struggled with injuries for a few months now and should not be considered a reliable fantasy option for the remainder of the season. He is battling Jack Cork for playing time and the two will limit their fantasy value.

Victor Wanyama will miss Southampton's game against Norwich due to a knock he picked up in Wednesday's training session.

Wanyama has struggled with a series of injuries lately and the knock he picked up is reportedly "in the same region as the previous injury". His replacement, Jack, Cork, is also out with an injury and James Ward-Prowse is the most likely replacement in midfield. Ward-Prowse has not been a big part of Mauricio Pochettino's rotation but was a decent fantasy contributor early in the year and is a good option at £5.34M.
