Marco van Ginkel has agreed to return to PSV Eindhoven on season-long loan after putting pen to paper on a new contract at Chelsea.
The 24-year-old signed a contract committing himself to Chelsea until 2020 and now returns to PSV after a successful past season-and-a-half at the Dutch club. Van Ginkel first moved to PSV in January 2016 and made an instant impact in their winning of the Eredivisie title that term, providing seven goals and four assists in 15 appearances. The attacking midfielder then overcame injury at the start of 2016/17 to re-joined PSV for the second half the campaign, where he scored eight goals in 13 matches as they finished third in the league. Having also spent spells at AC Milan and Stoke City, the move will be Van Ginkel's fifth temporary move away from Stamford Bridge since his arrival from Vitesse Arnhem in 2013. Stoke City have made Gianelli Imbula their record signing from Porto with the holding midfielder signing for the Potters for a reported £18.3 million.

The Potters definitely needed something more in the holding midfield spot than utility player Geoff Cameron. Their depth at the position was exposed when Cameron was injured recently and Marco Van Ginkel has failed to provide much of an answer on loan from Chelsea. That loan was canceled and the Potters added a new record signing. Imbula has potential but he only managed a handful of starts for Porto after signing this summer for £14 million so there is risk that he's not quite ready for prime time. If ever there was an advertisement for the transfer inflation that the new Premier League TV rights deal has caused, this is it.

Marco Van Ginkel's star has been fading at the Britannia so Mark Hughes probably won't be fretting that the midfielder isn't eligible to face his parent club Chelsea this weekend.

It is well-known that Chelsea have a ton of players out on loan across Europe as part of their strategy to give themselves flexibility under Financial Fair Play. As these players play, some of them gain value as they show promise while others are, for lack of a better term, found out and lose value in being found out. Van Ginkel seems to be moving quickly into the latter category as he has failed to take the opportunity created by the exit of Steven N'Zonzi. Stoke would do well to look for a holding midfielder in January and Van Ginkel should probably start thinking about other countries where he might be interested in plying his trade.

Marco Van Ginkel will miss Tuesday's Capital One Cup match with Chelsea based on the terms of his loan from Chelsea to Stoke City.

The box-to-box midfielder began the season as a regular starter for the Potters but he lost that status in mid-September and has yet to regain it. More worrying for Van Ginkel is that he was at least coming in from the bench in Premier League matches but was an unused substitute on Saturday as the Potters fell to Watford at home. The decision may have been as much down to Mark Hughes needing offense rather than defense from his substitutes but the trend is certainly not good for Van Ginkel regardless.

Stoke City had their home opener spoiled late in the day when an 86th minute Liverpool goal broke the stalemate and the Potters suffered a 0-1 loss.

It was a raucous crowd in front of the Potters today and it may have helped them be the stronger side of the first half. Charlie Adam had the best chance of the opening frame but sliced his shot wide. It was debutante Marco van Ginkel that looked the more inventive of the central midfielders though, as he made a few sharp key passes, but again, the Potters failed to get an end product. It looked more and more as time went on for the second half that Stoke would take the draw, because Liverpool were beginning to threaten with each passing minute. The dam finally broke in the 86th minute for them though, and they came away empty-handed. They can be encouraged that the defense doesn't look lost without Ryan Shawcross. Hopefully when it comes to the attack, Bojan is nearing fitness and can give them that extra edge that looked missing today.

Stoke City have made acquired Chelsea holding midfielder Marco Van Ginkel on loan for the 2015-16 season.

The other shoe to drop here is presumably the deal to send goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to Stamford Bridge on a permanent deal. No word on whether Stoke City have acquired any rights to purchase Van Ginkel on a permanent basis at a set price should his loan deal work out. The Potters definitely need a replacement for N'Zonzi and Van Ginkel isn't likely to see much playing time at Stamford Bridge anytime soon with Nemanja Matic among the best in the world in that role. This could be a nice get for the Potters and costs Chelsea almost nothing in terms of lost production.

Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel has completed a year-long loan to Italian club AC Milan.

van Ginkel was behind on the pecking order at Chelsea and wouldn't have seen much playing time this year behind Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas, Ramires, and John Obi Mikel. The 22-year-old should get a good run at AC Milan and earn some very important first team experience while he is there. van Ginkel is a very highly rated prospect by Chelsea and should be a major part of their team going forward, just not this year.

Marco van Ginkel returned to Chelsea's senior squad in their midweek Champions League match after a lengthy injury absence.

Marco van Ginkel suffered a torn ACL early in the year and was expected to miss the entire season and the World Cup. He has made a miraculous comeback and has featured in Chelsea's U21 squad in recent weeks. He returned to the bench on Tuesday and could even feature in Chelsea's match in midweek due to a depleted midfield. van Ginkel will be pushing for playing time in hopes of making the World Cup but it's unknown how much playing time he will receive from Mourinho.

Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkle is expected to play for Chelsea's development squad in April but is not expected to feature in the senior squad this season.

van Ginkle is recovering from a torn ACL and was expected to miss the entire season and the World Cup. He has recovered quicker than expected and this is great news for the youngster. Playing in U21 matches in April should be enough to give him a fair chance of making the Netherlands World Cup squad for Brazil.

Marco van Ginkel's knee injury turned out to be a torn anterior cruciate ligament(ACL) and he will be out for the rest of the season and the World Cup.

The recovery time for a torn ACL is usually around nine months and likely won't give him enough time to recover for the World Cup. Van Ginkel seemed to be earning more and more trust in Jose Mourinho's system and the injury certainly sets him back. Look for Ramires and Lampard to play that position more often with John Obi Mikel and Michael Essien coming in to provide rest.

Marco Van Ginkel injured his knee after starting Chelsea's Capital One Cup game against Swindon.

We don't know much about the injury yet but Van Ginkel could end up missing an extended period of time. He will have a scan tomorrow and we should know more after the results of that come out. Injuries is one of the reason Jose Mourinho wanted a deep squad and Chelsea should have no problems replacing Van Ginkel in midfield.

Chelsea have rejected a loan bid for midfielder Marco Van Ginkel from Ajax.

Ajax are interested in getting Van Ginkel on a season long loan but Chelsea have rejected the bid. Chelsea have more midfielders than they can play, but either the offer wasn't good enough or they have plans for using Van Ginkel this season. Van Ginkel is only 20 years of age, so giving out on loan could be a smart move for Chelsea and it could give him very valuable playing time.
