Gerard Deulofeu made a quick impact at Vicarage Road but injury and now illness have derailed his season at Watford and look likely to continue to do so in Week 35.
The Hornets don't have much incentive to push Deulofeu given that their position in the Premier League next season is secure. Their Week 35 match-up is much more important for Crystal Palace than it is for the home-standing Hornets. Players like Deulofeu, Sebastian Prodl and others who have been ill will not be pushed. On the heels of only four goals over their past six Premier League matches including being shut out in Week 34, it wouldn't be at all surprising to see more listless action from the home side as the season winds down at the Vitality Stadium. Watford was hit with another injury blow with the news that winger Gerard Deulofeu has suffered a stress fracture in his foot.

The former Everton phenom had started in each of the four games since arriving on loan from Barcelona in the January transfer window, recording a goal and assist in his bid to break into the Spanish national team ahead of the World Cup. However, his chances look to have taken a major hit after sustaining the stress fracture over the weekend against Everton. While manager Javi Gracia didn't want to put a timetable on the injury, stress fractures typically take up to two months to fully heal. "I think the doctor can explain better than me, but I'm going to try. He has stress fracture of his foot. I'm optimistic he'll recover as soon as possible, but I don't know how long he'll be out. It depends on many things. I think he will come back with us before finishing the season."

Watford coach Javi Gracia admitted he is unsure how long Gerard Deulofeu will be sidelined after limping off against Everton.

Deulofeu had a couple of decent years on Merseyside after Roberto Martinez decided to splash €6 million on the speedy winger. However, he struggled under new boss Ronald Koeman and Deulofeu was shipped out on-loan to AC Milan where he did impress, so much so that Barcelona activated a buy-back clause. However, having failed to nail down a regular starting berth, Watford picked him up in January on a six-month deal. He hit the ground running, of particular note was an outstanding performance in the 4-1 demolition of Chelsea [GW26]. But, despite the pre-match hype, he was unable to deliver against his former employers before his night came to an abrupt end. Deulofeu landed awkwardly - rolling his ankle - following a shoulder charge with Everton forward Cenk Tosun which forced him off on 63 minutes. "I don't know what happened. He's feeling pain in his right foot and we'll have to see," Gracia said after the game.

Watford produced a stunning finale to beat 10 man Chelsea 4-1 at Vicarage Road in the final match of Gameweek 26.

After the first half an hour, Watford had nothing to show for their dominance over a sluggish Chelsea side. Then, Tiemoue Bakayoko, who had been having a torrid night since kick-off, received his second yellow card and marching orders after a foul on Richarlison. Watford continued to pressure and were rewarded just before the interval when they went up 1-0 owing to a Deeney penalty, won by Deulofeu. Despite continued dominance by the home side, The Blues drew level thanks to a piece of magic from Eden Hazard on 82', that goal coming shortly after Chelsea's first shot on target all night. Unbelievably, Watford struck back instantly, first through Daryl Janmaat and immediately after through Deulofeu. Instead of mustering an attempt at a comeback, Chelsea were cowed, conceding a fourth through a stunner from substitute Roberto Pereyra in injury time. A great home debut for Javi Gracia but as for Antonio Conte.. the pressure mounts and a potential sacking looms after another humiliation.

Stoke City and Watford played to a listless draw at the Bet365 Stadium on deadline day.

It's a good thing there was a lot of transfer news over the course of the day because this match was dismal. Six total shots on target and no goals meant a rough outing for those who watched. Both clubs have been struggling so neither will object to a point but neither will be particularly satisfied either.

Gerard Deulofeu's shock arrival at Vicarage Road this week could end with him making his Hornets debut in Week 25 against Stoke City.

The acquisition of Deulofeu by Watford came out of left field to say the least. The Barcelona man was rumored to be leaving the Camp Nou but Watford hadn't been mooted as a destination until the deal was nearly done. It does set up an intriguing potential front three of Richarlison and Deulofeu flanking Troy Deeney (or Andre Gray) with Abdoulaye Doucoure and Tom Cleverley pulling the strings. That's hardly a threat to the top six but in the race for seventh it is at least a credible entry in the race featuring pace, skill, invention, and power. Deulofeu, when he has played regularly, has been a solid fantasy asset in traditional fantasy scoring systems and a step above solid in systems that reward peripheral contributions.

Everton announced the signing of Eupen forward Henry Onyekuru as its third signing of the summer.

However, the club lost Gerard Deulofeu to Barcelona after the Spanish giants re-signed the winger after an impressive U21 European championships. While Onyekuru will be loaned out to Anderlecht for the upcoming season, Ronald Koeman has lined up the Nigerian as a future replacement for Romelu Lukaku in a move for just £6.8 million. The 20-year-old was the joint top scorer of the Belgian Pro League this season with 22 goals.

Gerard Deulofeu has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after suffering a knee injury in training on Friday.

Roberto Martinez confirmed Deulofeu had damaged knee ligaments last week during the build-up to the Bournemouth game: "He is out for the season. On Friday he got a knock on his knee. He doesn’t need an operation, it’s a medial ligament grade one tear." Deulofeu has struggled to hold down a starting place since the turn of year having finished 2015 strongly. The Spanish winger enjoyed a fruitful partnership with Romelu Lukaku and directly contributed to nine goals between September and December. But his form faltered in 2016 -- just one assist – from five Premier League starts as the emergence of Aaron Lennon pushed the 22-year-old down the pecking order.

Gerrard Deulofeu was returned to the Everton starting line-up and while he had a few moments of quality Everton struggled to muster any serious attack and fell 1-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

It had been since the end of January that Deulofeu started a match for the Toffees and in his two months in the doghouse he only saw action as a substitute twice. It's hard to blame Roberto Martinez because the Toffees only lost one of the matches that Deulofeu was an unused substitute (the 3-2 loss at home to West Ham). The Toffees did, however, lose both matches that Deulofeu played in as a substitute (1-0 to West Brom and 2-0 to Arsenal). The trend continued with Deulofeu restored to the starting line-up with the Toffees losing, failing to score and only mounting a single shot on target. It's hard to imagine that Deulofeu is the cause of the poor results per se but the correlation does seem to be strong between him featuring and Everton doing poorly.

Gerard Deulofeu scored a late winner through a free-kick to give Everton a 2-1 win over Reading and send them through to the next round of the Capital One Cup.

Everton started a fairly mixed squad that features some regular starters and some bench options but it was enough to defeat Championship side Reading. Nick Blackman opened up the scoring for the home side but Everton were able to strike back in the second half through Ross Barkley. Deulofeu then struck in the 73rd minute from a free-kick to cap off a dominating second half by Everton. The Toffees will be confident ahead of their match against West Brom on Monday.

Problems are mounting for boss Roberto Martinez ahead of Everton’s opener with Watford, with injuries to several first team players…

Roberto Martinez has bullishly responded to speculation linking center-back John Stones to a move to Chelsea (or possibly Manchester United). Stones was impressive against Villareal before going off – as a precaution - following a slight knock on the ankle he had surgery on last season. Kevin Mirallas also picked up an ankle injury and Romelu Lukaku missed the match – again, a precaution – after pulling up in Everton’s previous friendly. And now it appears Gerard Deulofeu will miss this weekend’s match after picking up a hamstring injury. After a frustrating and uncertain summer Everton need a positive start. Attracting players and, of course, keeping current ones will not be any easier if they don’t hit the ground running…

Early reports suggesting new Everton signing Gerard Deulofeu will miss the start of the new season look to be a little wide of the mark after the pacey winger suffered a hamstring problem last weekend.

Deulofeu was replaced at half-time during the loss to Arsenal in the Asia Trophy with sections of the media claiming the 21 year-old had suffered a grade two tear which would mean around 4-6 weeks on the sidelines. However the Liverpool ECHO reveal that his withdrawal was more of a precaution and Deulofeu still has a chance of making the PL opener against Watford. The latter appears to be a more accurate assessment of the current situation as extensive fibre damage would have left the winger in severe pain / discomfort - something which wasn’t overtly obvious from the live match coverage. Everton are also sweating on a number of other players for GW1 with Leighton Baines, Darron Gibson, Bryan Oviedo and Mo Besic all currently out because of injury.

Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu could be on the verge of a return to Goodison Park for a bargain £3 million.

Everton fans took the skillful winger to their hearts after a successful loan spell in the 2013-14 season. Deulofeu started nine PL matches and featured in another 16 from the bench, scoring four times. Though still a teenager at the time and exposed as a little lightweight in some matches, his quality was clear to see. Two years on and with the added experience of another successful loan spell at Europa League winning side Seville last term, the reported £3 million transfer fee looks good business. An agreement was apparently reached between Martinez and Barcelona director of football Josep Maria Bartomeu a month ago, but the deal has not yet been rubber-stamped.

Gerard Deulofeu's hamstring injury was confirmed by the Everton medical staff, and a five week convalescence is expected.

Everton are one of the Premier League's in-form sides, and Deulofeu's injury should ensure Kevin Mirallas a run in the starting eleven. With Swansea, Sunderland, and Stoke City the next three opponents, Mirallas and the other Everton players should see plenty of fantasy investment.

Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu's hamstring injury sustained during the Toffee's clash with Fulham has been assessed and the loanee is thought to be out for up to five weeks.

Initial reports were suggesting a layoff closer to the three week range and the phrasing of "could be out for up to five weeks" leaves the window open for an earlier return but the increase in the projected timetable should rule out any hope for Delofeu's chances of contributing during the festive period. Kevin Mirallas will have an extended opportunity to claim his spot back for good in the meantime.
