Newcastle United welcome the return of Paul Dummett from a hamstring injury and will likely turn to him for the left back position this weekend against Southampton.
The Magpies had been putting a patch on the left back spot since Dummett injured himself back in Week 29, with Jack Colback filling in until his suspension and Vurnon Anita filling in last week. Earlier in the year, Rolando Aarons spent time in the role. Massadio Haidara had a setback to his injury recovery last week so Dummett continues to be the only natural option for Rafa Benitez. Expect to see him in the XI against the Saints but there is not much fantasy value in the Newcastle defense these days. Apr 8 - 1:16 PM

Newcastle's relegation fight just got a lot tougher due to the club's injury problems along the back-line, specifically at left-back.

Left-back Paul Dummett limped off in the 31st minute against Bournemouth in Week 29 with a hamstring injury and is now expected to miss the next month. Dummett missed the month prior due to a hamstring injury and just returned before sustaining another hamstring complaint. Massadio Haidara, the club's other left-back, is also out with an injury along with captain Fabricio Coloccini, meaning Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback and academy product Kevin Mbabu left to provide cover at the position in the near future.

Paul Dummett picked up a knock during Newcastle United's loss to AFC Bournemouth, putting his status for this weekend's trip to Leicester City in question.

Dummett had to limp off after 31 minutes during the match against the Cherries, with Jack Colback shifting from his central defensive midfield position to the left back spot for coverage. Newcastle are already missing their two most used center backs in Chancel Mbemba and Fabricio Coloccini and are being stretched thin at the defensive position yet again heading into a very difficult fixture. Steve McClaren is firmly in the hot seat, and one of many questions regarding his management would have to be why he made so many signings in January to the front six without making any signings to bolster a consistently patchwork defense.

Paul Dummett will miss Newcastle United's match with West Bromwich Albion tomorrow as the defender has failed to recover from a hamstring injury.

The injury bug strikes yet again for the Magpies, and this is a real worry. Having just come back this past midweek from a muscle problem, Dummett now has a hamstring issue. Jack Colback is still out and further compounding the issue, Jamaal Lascelles, who filled in for the role two weeks back, is suspended for the weekend. Steve McClaren will have to call upon Kevin Mbabu, assuming he is fit himself. If not, then a midfielder will have to drop back, with Rolando Aarons the most likely candidate. With Chacel Mbemba also ruled out, it could present the Baggies a chance to have a big day on the attack.
Feb 5 - 12:20 PM

Steve McClaren announced that Paul Dummett is available to start for Newcastle United tomorrow evening against Everton.

McClaren was forced to shift center back Jamaal Lascelles into the left back role last gameweek against Watford, but with a fit Dummett and Jack Colback still unavailable, Dummett looks to be a lock to start against the Toffees tomorrow. It is nothing to get too excited about from a fantasy perspective. Dummett is not much of a prospect himself and the Magpies are still a longshot to keep a clean sheet at Goodison Park.

Steve McClaren is hoping for a triple injury boost ahead of next Wednesdays’ Premier League clash at Goodison Park.

Newcastle travelled to Vicarage Road last weekend with only four fully fit defenders after hamstring problems ruled Jack Colback and Paul Dummett out of the trip. McClaren also included Steven Taylor in the squad at Watford, albeit reluctantly, after more than four months out. "We had to put Steven Taylor in who’s not kicked a ball, just trained for one week. We had to put him on the bench. We need players back from injury." With a break in league proceedings and no FA Cup fixture to contend with, United will use the additional days to give their squad some much needed rest following the recent heavy fixture schedule.

Paul Dummett picked up a muscular problem during the win over West Ham on Saturday although his injury went largely unnoticed following the Magpies first victory since mid-December.

Dummett was replaced early in the second half with what appeared to be a hamstring problem as debutant Henri Saivet entered the fray on 57 minutes. However, amongst the missed chances, Wijnaldum lung bursting runs and Jonjo Shelvey defence splitting passes, the Welsh international hardly got a mention post-match. Dummett proved to be the most unlikeliest of heroes on Tuesday night as his dramatic late, late equaliser against Man United capped a wonderfully entertaining 3-3 draw. The full-back will be assessed but there will be underlying concerns as Dummett has been sidelined four times within the last 8-months due to hamstring related problems.
Jan 17 - 5:13 AM

Paul Dummett, with a big assist from a Chris Smalling deflection, rocketed a 89th minute screamer into David De Gea's net to earn Newcastle a dramatic point against Manchester United.

Newcastle quite simply never gave up. After going down 2-0 to goals from Wayne Rooney and Jesse Lingard they fought back to even the score at 2-2 through Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic. A Rooney screamer put United ahead again going into the final minutes of the match but a bouncing ball came to local boy Paul Dummett at the top of the box and he lashed it home off of Chris Smalling's arm to earn Newcastle a momentum-building draw.
Jan 12 - 4:59 PM

Paul Dummett was the starting left back in the Tyneside derby, marking his second straight start, and looks to be settling in as a regular for now.

The position has been a bit of a carousel so far this season, with Massadio Haidara and Kevin Mbabu each having a run in the side through the opening months. The fact that all three were available for selection against Sunderland would hint that Steve McClaren favors Dummett these days. Furthermore, with Fabricio Coloccini set to serve a ban, unless successfully appealed, Dummett may be a candidate to shift to a center back role. He filled in there for a few games last season while Newcastle were in injury crisis though Jamaal Lascelles is a more natural fit for the role and could partner Chancel Mbemba. The derby result surely muted much fantasy appeal for the Magpies in general, but Dummett is cheap in every format and could be a decent bargain shout for the short term.

Newcastle United received a much-needed fitness boost as left back Paul Dummett has returned to training and could take some part in the Magpies Week 9 match against Norwich City.

Dummett has spent the past month on the sidelines with a hamstring issue, and the left back spot was thinned further by an injury to Massadio Haidara. Dummett's return is a timely one, as the current left back Kevin Mbabu picked up a knock recently himself. Coming off a thrashing at the hands of Sergio Aguero and not looking very promising for defensive investment, it may seem trivial to consider Dummett for fantasy, but he does carry some attacking threat and the Magpies are set for perhaps their kindest run of fixtures this season. Perhaps Dummett can help a few fantasy managers out if he is ready to go in Week 9 against the Canaries but is only safe if Haidara remains out.

Newcastle and Wales defender Paul Dummett is set for another spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury setback in training.

Dummett returned to the United bench as an unused substitute for the Capital One cup game versus Northampton Town but was a notable absentee when the Magpies took on Arsenal at St James’ Park just 4 days later in the PL. News later emerged that Dummett had suffered a fresh injury which will keep the versatile Welshman out for several weeks. Comfortable either in the heart of defence or on the left, Dummett has slipped down the pecking order centrally following the arrival of Chancel Mbemba and the return of Steven Taylor but the 23 year-old will still fancy his chances at full-back where Massadio Haidara is defensively suspect.

Injury problems are beginning ease at Newcastle as a number of first team players take part in an open training session at St James’ Park.

Most notable during Wednesdays’ event which attracted a crowd in excess of 12k was defender Paul Dummett - who had missed the whole of pre-season due to a hamstring complaint – and Remy Cabella who could be available ahead of schedule following a thigh strain. Cheick Tiote [knee] and Fabricio Coloccini [Achilles] were also involved while speculation linking the captain away from Tyneside have been dismissed with the Argentine promising to see out his career at the club. Emmanuel Riviere also featured in light training drills as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.

Newcastle defender Paul Dummett will miss Friday nights’ crucial Euro 2016 qualifier against Belgium in Cardiff after failing to recover from a hamstring strain.

Dummett has endured an injury hit campaign on Tyneside having missed a large chuck of the season. An ongoing thigh problem combined with knee surgery - which was expected to keep the 23 year-old out until the summer - hampered his progress although the defender did play a part in the remaining 4-games domestically. However injury has struck again leaving Wales manager Chris Coleman with a defensive headache as James Collins [calf] and Ben Davies [shoulder] remain sidelined. Nevertheless the squad has been boosted as captain Ashley Williams and midfielder Joe Allen declare themselves fit for the match at the Millennium Stadium.

Paul Dummett has returned to a full week of training leading up to Newcastle United's clash with Leicester tomorrow, and John Carver is hoping to hand the defender a start straight away.

The Sheilds-Gazette is reporting that Dummett is "firmly in Carver's thoughts" regarding his chances of making the XI at King Power Stadium. He played in a midweek match with the U-21's and came away no worse for the wear so unless Dummett is feeling something negative tomorrow morning, odds are he will be starting. It is the early Saturday kickoff so if he matters to you for fantasy reasons, perhaps you can get confirmation with team before your deadline.

Newcastle United received a fitness boost amid their six game losing streak as Paul Dummett has stepped up his recovery from a knee injury and looks set to make the squad this weekend in their match with Swansea City.

With the array of key players unavailable due to injury, or in Papiss Cisse's case, suspension and a manager who is likely not to stick around, it is no wonder that the Magpies have been in a tailspin, but Dummett's return is still a welcome one regardless. It may be a blow for fantasy managers though, as Dummett's presence looks to come at the expense of Ryan Taylor. While Taylor is a set piece machine and one of the best fantasy full backs in the Premier League, he is also a defensive liability and John Carver will have to decide what personnel gives him the best shot at ending this streak. With over two months sidelined, Dummett is a better bet to play the role of substitute against the Swans, so Taylor owners may get by with him for another week, but after that, his spot is in jeopardy.
