Paul Dummett was the starting left back in the Tyneside derby, marking his second straight start, and looks to be settling in as a regular for now.
The position has been a bit of a carousel so far this season, with Massadio Haidara and Kevin Mbabu each having a run in the side through the opening months. The fact that all three were available for selection against Sunderland would hint that Steve McClaren favors Dummett these days. Furthermore, with Fabricio Coloccini set to serve a ban, unless successfully appealed, Dummett may be a candidate to shift to a center back role. He filled in there for a few games last season while Newcastle were in injury crisis though Jamaal Lascelles is a more natural fit for the role and could partner Chancel Mbemba. The derby result surely muted much fantasy appeal for the Magpies in general, but Dummett is cheap in every format and could be a decent bargain shout for the short term. Oct 27 - 12:07 PM

Newcastle United received a much-needed fitness boost as left back Paul Dummett has returned to training and could take some part in the Magpies Week 9 match against Norwich City.

Dummett has spent the past month on the sidelines with a hamstring issue, and the left back spot was thinned further by an injury to Massadio Haidara. Dummett's return is a timely one, as the current left back Kevin Mbabu picked up a knock recently himself. Coming off a thrashing at the hands of Sergio Aguero and not looking very promising for defensive investment, it may seem trivial to consider Dummett for fantasy, but he does carry some attacking threat and the Magpies are set for perhaps their kindest run of fixtures this season. Perhaps Dummett can help a few fantasy managers out if he is ready to go in Week 9 against the Canaries but is only safe if Haidara remains out.

Newcastle and Wales defender Paul Dummett is set for another spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury setback in training.

Dummett returned to the United bench as an unused substitute for the Capital One cup game versus Northampton Town but was a notable absentee when the Magpies took on Arsenal at St James’ Park just 4 days later in the PL. News later emerged that Dummett had suffered a fresh injury which will keep the versatile Welshman out for several weeks. Comfortable either in the heart of defence or on the left, Dummett has slipped down the pecking order centrally following the arrival of Chancel Mbemba and the return of Steven Taylor but the 23 year-old will still fancy his chances at full-back where Massadio Haidara is defensively suspect.

Injury problems are beginning ease at Newcastle as a number of first team players take part in an open training session at St James’ Park.

Most notable during Wednesdays’ event which attracted a crowd in excess of 12k was defender Paul Dummett - who had missed the whole of pre-season due to a hamstring complaint – and Remy Cabella who could be available ahead of schedule following a thigh strain. Cheick Tiote [knee] and Fabricio Coloccini [Achilles] were also involved while speculation linking the captain away from Tyneside have been dismissed with the Argentine promising to see out his career at the club. Emmanuel Riviere also featured in light training drills as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.

Newcastle defender Paul Dummett will miss Friday nights’ crucial Euro 2016 qualifier against Belgium in Cardiff after failing to recover from a hamstring strain.

Dummett has endured an injury hit campaign on Tyneside having missed a large chuck of the season. An ongoing thigh problem combined with knee surgery - which was expected to keep the 23 year-old out until the summer - hampered his progress although the defender did play a part in the remaining 4-games domestically. However injury has struck again leaving Wales manager Chris Coleman with a defensive headache as James Collins [calf] and Ben Davies [shoulder] remain sidelined. Nevertheless the squad has been boosted as captain Ashley Williams and midfielder Joe Allen declare themselves fit for the match at the Millennium Stadium.

Paul Dummett has returned to a full week of training leading up to Newcastle United's clash with Leicester tomorrow, and John Carver is hoping to hand the defender a start straight away.

The Sheilds-Gazette is reporting that Dummett is "firmly in Carver's thoughts" regarding his chances of making the XI at King Power Stadium. He played in a midweek match with the U-21's and came away no worse for the wear so unless Dummett is feeling something negative tomorrow morning, odds are he will be starting. It is the early Saturday kickoff so if he matters to you for fantasy reasons, perhaps you can get confirmation with team before your deadline.
May 1 - 3:11 PM

Newcastle United received a fitness boost amid their six game losing streak as Paul Dummett has stepped up his recovery from a knee injury and looks set to make the squad this weekend in their match with Swansea City.

With the array of key players unavailable due to injury, or in Papiss Cisse's case, suspension and a manager who is likely not to stick around, it is no wonder that the Magpies have been in a tailspin, but Dummett's return is still a welcome one regardless. It may be a blow for fantasy managers though, as Dummett's presence looks to come at the expense of Ryan Taylor. While Taylor is a set piece machine and one of the best fantasy full backs in the Premier League, he is also a defensive liability and John Carver will have to decide what personnel gives him the best shot at ending this streak. With over two months sidelined, Dummett is a better bet to play the role of substitute against the Swans, so Taylor owners may get by with him for another week, but after that, his spot is in jeopardy.
Apr 21 - 8:36 AM

Newcastle are still waiting to discover the full extent of the knee injury sustained by Welsh international Paul Dummett after the defender limped away from Selhurst Park in GW25 with a knee injury.

Dummett was seen walking with the aid of crutches in the days following the game and what was originally reported as "bang on the knee" by manager John Carver now looks to be a little more serious. With Steven Taylor [Achilles] ruled out for the season and Davide Santon and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa leaving during the January transfer window the potential loss of Paul Dummett is a huge blow with Mike Williamson and Fabricio Coloccini the only recognised central defenders. Meanwhile the fate of Cheick Tiote hangs the balance after the Magpies midfielder returned from the African Cup of Nations with a knee problem.
Feb 17 - 12:16 PM

Paul Dummett has been formally ruled out of action for Newcastle United when they face Hull City on Saturday.

Tough break for anyone looking at Dummett as a sneaky bargain pick against an abysmal Tigers attack. There is no timetable regarding his hamstring to accompany the news of his absence this weekend but one would expect that to mean he will be in contention to return next weekend. Meanwhile, Davide Santon is fit again and will be pushing for his first league start of the season.

The tension is increasing on Tyneside as their search for a replacement coach / manager looks no closer to conclusion after more than three weeks with caretaker John Carver yet to win a game.

There was an air of discontent around St James’ Park on Saturday as Newcastle welcomed Southampton although the home side will seldom be presented with a better opportunity to take points from a team within the top five. The Saints were playing their third away game in six days with Ronald Koeman losing three key players in the process – Morgan Schneiderlin, Victor Wanyama and Toby Alderweireld – while Dusan Tadic and Ryan Bertrand were passed fit just hours before the game. But Newcastle lacked any cutting edge in the final third and in truth never troubled Southampton despite plenty of possession. However any plans of introducing another striker – Adam Armstrong - for the last ten minutes were thwarted when Paul Dummett limped off with a hamstring problem with Carver choosing to go like-for-like following the introduction of Mike Williamson.

Newcastle United's physio room is a virtual MASH unit right now, with multiple injuries at every position, and are now tasked to travel to Stamford Bridge this weekend.

There are so many players carrying knocks or out long term for the Magpies right now, it really has become just a matter of finding eleven healthy individuals to field at this point. Add in a caretaker manager and trip to play a Chelsea side who are licking their wounds after their loss against Spurs and you have a recipe for fantasy Armageddon. Dummett is one of the few healthy options that has had a big haul or two before and can be had for a bargain price, but to expect any score above zero may be a fool's errand. To his credit, Dummett is coming off his last league start in which he scored, except it was of the "own" variety. Yeah, things at St. James' are in disarray to say the least right now.
Jan 7 - 5:39 PM

Paul Dummett joins the list of players missing out for their country during the international break, as he was omitted from the Wales squad with a muscular injury.

Wales will square off against Bosnia and Herzegovina tomorrow, then Cyprus a few days later as they attempt to escape their group. Dummett had appeared to regained his spot as a regular in Newcastle's XI, having started their last three league games. Alan Pardew will be happy to see his versatile left back spending the break on the mend as they prepare for their next match he must view as one that must end with a positive result, home to Leicester City. Ryan Taylor is working his way back to health and could possibly replace Dummett should the latter not return to fitness by Week Eight.

As expected, Paul Dummett has been ruled out of Newcastle United's match against Chelsea. The young defender only lasted 40 minutes of a substitute appearance against Manchester City in the League Cup.

Newcastle's defence is getting pretty thin. Mike Williamson and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa will be the center back pairing by default.
