Newcastle United looked to be in the mood for an upset with an early goal at Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea responded quickly and dominated throughout as the Magpies fell, 3-1.
From the opening whistle, Chelsea were knocking the ball around with ease and looked poised to cruise but in the twelfth minute, the defense shut off momentarily and Jacob Murphy was able to connect with Gayle via deflection and Gayle put the finishing touches on his second goal in his last three starts. Instead of clamping down and using the early lead to grind out a result, the Magpies looked chaotic as Eden Hazard and company made things look easy. Still, Newcastle were in the game as it hit the hour mark, and Ayonze Perez nearly leveled it but his shot drifted wide of the post. Any hope of a result was finally squashed when Matt Ritchie fouled in his own box to give the Blues a penalty which they converted. Newcastle have earned just a single point in their last six matches. Dec 2 - 9:46 AM

Newcastle suffered a heart-breaking defeat in the last-minute of stoppage time in a 1-0 loss to Bournemouth.

In the 92nd minute, Bournemouth defender Steve Cook broke free inside the penalty area and powered home a header of the match-winning goal when a point would have seen the Magpies back in the top 10. Rafa Benitez will feel hard done by to not at least come out with a point after Dwight Gayle's goal was ruled offside despite appearing to be level on replay; he was also pulled down by Cook while through on goal in the final moments, but there was no call.

Newcastle left St Mary’s with a point on Sunday but the draw was slightly marred due to an injury which meant the Tynesiders had to see out the game with only ten fit players.

Speaking after the match, Rafa Benitez revealed that Dwight Gayle "had a little problem with his calf" which will require a scan on Monday. Last season’s top scorer entered the fray with a quarter of the game remaining in the hope of stretching a tiring Saints defence, but following a lung bursting charge on 80 minutes, Gayle felt his calf stiffen and he was forced to drop a little deeper to help close out the match under increasing pressure. The setback is yet more bad news for the striker who was the subject of intense transfer speculation towards the end of the summer window. Gayle has only started twice in the Premier League this season and is becoming more and more frustrated with his bit part role having fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of Joselu.

Newcastle are sweating on the fitness of striker Dwight Gayle who has a slight muscular problem.

Rafa Benitez had chosen to deploy Aleksander Mitrovic in attack against Wolfsburg last Wednesday, leaving Gayle on the bench, a move which many thought was a precautionary measure. However, concerns began to mount when his name was omitted from the squad which took on Hellas Verona at St James’ Park in the club’s final pre-season friendly. Following the 2-0 victory, Benitez confirmed Gayle was "not comfortable" after complaining of discomfort in his hamstring: "Dwight is training with the fitness coach, so hopefully he can carry on training this week. If everything is fine, I think he will be OK for Sunday." There will be no old boys’ reunion for DeAndre Yedlin who misses the game through injury while Jamie Sterry is taking longer than initially anticipated to recover from groin surgery.

Newcastle has confirmed that their move for Crystal Palace forward Dwight Gayle has been finalized as the former Crystal Palace man has signed a five-year deal with the Magpies.

Newcastle are certainly not slowing down their spending after being relegated. As the transfer window officially opens they have announced the signings of Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle. The new arrivals have been somewhat offset by the departure of Andros Townsend. The dual arrivals could mean that there might be another player from last season's team (Georginio Wijnaldum?) leaving this summer but it could just be a concerted effort to ensure that promotion is earned after this season.

Newcastle United are expected to announce the signing of Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace while winger Andros Townsend travels in the opposite direction.

Gayle was pictured on Tyneside following talks with United and will sign a five-year deal, reportedly to be worth in the region of £8.5million. The 25-year-old joins following a frustrating spell at Selhurst Park in which he failed to nail down a regular starting spot. Gayle becomes the second addition to the United squad this week joining former Gent goalkeeper Matz Sels. However, there could be yet further deals to be done over the next 24-48 hours as Rafa Benitez begins to shape his Championship squad. Crystal Palace have triggered Andros Townsend’s release clause stealing a march on the likes of Watford and West Ham while AFC Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie has already been lined up as a potential replacement.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is keen to submit a £10 million bid for Crystal Palace forward Dwight Gayle this summer.

The Crystal Palace striker could be tempted into a change of scenery this summer despite just signing a new four-year contract with the Eagles in April. The 25-year-old scored three goals in 16 Premier League appearances this season but didn't break into the first team much after turning down a move to Bristol City in the winter transfer window. Gayle has emerged as a top target for Benitez in the summer transfer window with players like Moussa Sissoko and Andros Townsend expected to move on.

Dwight Gayle scored twice and that was all the Eagles needed to overcome Stoke City 2-1 in Week 37 action.

Gayle was the beneficiary of a mazy Yannick Bolasie run for his first goal which equalized Charlie Adam's opener. Gayle's second came from a free kick and won the match for the suddenly alive-again Eagles. Neither side had a great deal to play for but Palace will be happy to put a miserable second half behind them.

Crystal Palace will find Dwight Gayle on the training table once again this season after the forward sustained a glute/hip injury.

Along with a minor shoulder injury to Wilfried Zaha, the forward sustained the injury after getting the start in Wednesday's 0-0 draw with Everton amid reports that he has signed a new contract with the club. Manager Alan Pardew suggested that the hope is Gayle could use this week to recover and be fit for next weekend's FA Cup semifinal with Watford: "No, Dwight Gayle won't make this game (Arsenal). I don't actually think he'll make Man United, but a possibility for the semi-final, probably." That means Connor Wickham is likely to start while Emmanuel Adebayor or Bakary Sako could also get a look at leading the formation.

Crystal Palace may finally see the end of its attacking woes with Dwight Gayle and Connor Wickham set to return for the weekend match against Watford.

Pardew expressed hope that the club's goalscoring struggles will come to an end soon: "Gayley is hopefully available, he's trained this week. Connor returns after his ban. So it's a little bit better." Gayle has missed the past month with a hamstring injury after almost leaving the club in the winter transfer window. Wickham also returns from his three-match ban for violent conduct after elbowing Jan Vertonghen in the face in Week 24. Even if he is fully fit, it's very unlikely Gayle will start this weekend against Watford, although Wickham has a chance despite Emmanuel Adebayor's arrival. However, it's best to stay away from the Palace attack in your fantasy outings until the Eagles get back to their scoring ways, having scored only three goals during their ongoing eight-match league winless streak.

Crystal Palace will be without Dwight Gayle and Mile Jedinak against Southampton this weekend along with Bakary Sako as the Eagles look to follow up their last home victory—a 5-1 win against Newcastle.

The club confirmed Gayle suffered a setback after only just returning from a hamstring injury that kept him out for nearly a month. The forward aggravated the injury as a second-half sub in Monday's 1-1 draw with Everton. Jedinak, a starter on Monday, turned his ankle in training earlier this week and will not feature as well. Sako continues to recover from a hamstring injury and his initial diagnosis schedules him to return in the next week, but Saturday will come too soon. Wilfried Zaha is expected to return to the starting lineup after his suspension while Connor Wickham should continue to start up top.

Dwight Gayle and Marouane Chamakh are in the travel roster for the weekend trip to Everton after returning fit from their respective injuries.

Chamakh has been named on the bench during the club's last two league matches while Gayle has missed the last month after suffering a grade two hamstring tear. Gayle has started four games for the Eagles this season but has yet to score in the Premier League. The return comes at a good time for the club, who will be without Bakary Sako (injury) and Wilfried Zaha (yellow card suspension) against a streaking Everton side.

Crystal Palace forward Dwight Gayle will miss up to a month after suffering a Grade Two tear in his hamstring, the club confirmed.

Gayle missed Palace's 2-1 away win at Liverpool on Sunday and was replaced in the starting lineup up top by Bakary Sako. But reinforcements have arrived as Connor Wickham returned on Sunday as a second-half substitute, his first appearance for the club since Week 2 after overcoming separate rib and calf injuries. However, due to the international break, Gayle may only miss one match depending on the progression of his recovery.

It was a busy first half for Dwight Gayle as he managed to draw a penalty and two yellow cards of his own as Crystal Palace dropped a 3-1 decision to West Ham.

Gayle looked like he might end up being one of Palace's heroes on the day as he drew a penalty from Carl Jenkinson. Yohan Cabaye converted the spot kick and drew Palace level in the 25th minute only minutes after Jenkinson had opened the scoring. The script was flipped on Gayle as he committed a second unnecessary caution-able offense in the 44th minute and was sent off. Crystal Palace defended valiantly a man down but couldn't quite make it to full time with a draw and saw the Hammers score in the 88th minute and then again in stoppage time for the final 3-1 score.

Crystal Palace have accepted a bid for out-of-favour striker Dwight Gayle from Bristol City, thought to be in the region of £6 million pounds…

The writing has been on the wall for Dwight Gayle for a while. The arrival of Patrick Bamford and Connor Wickham in the summer relegated the 24-year-old striker to 4th, possibly 5th in the pecking order. Glenn Murray spearheaded a 4-5-1 formation in their opening match at Norwich, with Bamford and Gayle unused substitutes. Such is the strength in depth at Palace now that Yannick Bolasie was also benched, with Wilfried Zaha (a goal) and Jason Puncheon (an assist) providing attacking thrust from wide. Bristol City are yet to speak to Gayle – and he would have to accept a drop in division, of course – but Palace chairman has confirmed a bid has been accepted. The fee is reported to be £6m, which was the same amount Palace paid Peterborough in 2013.
