Manchester United defender Guillermo Varela has hit back at Eintracht Frankfurt after he was suspended and fined by the club for getting a tattoo against the wishes of coach Niko Kovac.
News broke earlier this week that the 24-year-old would be returning to United, his parent club with immediate effect, a move which meant the Uruguayan would miss this weekend’s DFB Pokal final. In an official statement, Frankfurt announced that Varela’s arm had become infected and that he would head back to Manchester effectively bringing an end to his season long loan deal. But Varela has hit back at the club’s handling of the situation: "I've been nailed to the cross as if I'd violently attacked the coach or done something else," he told German magazine Sueddeutsche Zeitung. "I wonder what Real Madrid would have to do with Sergio Ramos. He gets tattooed every week. I can't explain why I've been punished so hard." Varela went onto add that he would "never do anything to harm my team" and that he feels his name has been "besmirched" as a consequence. May 28 - 1:30 PM

Manchester United defender Guillermo Varela has scuppered his chances of appearing in the German Cup final for Eintracht Frankfurt as well as his chances of securing a permanent deal at the club.

Varela has been on loan at Frankfurt since last summer and had been due to play the final against Dortmund on Saturday. However, he was ruled out of the final after a tattoo he acquired contrary to the expressed wishes of his German club became infected. The Uruguayan right-back has now been suspended and sent home to Manchester, with a Frankfurt board member quoted as saying "With this action, Guillermo’s time at Frankfurt is over." The club had previously been exploring extending his loan. Manchester United manager José Mourinho is rumoured to be planned to eject Varela from the club this summer.

Manchester United has announced youth defender Guillermo Varela has joined Eintracht Frankurt on loan this summer.

The 23-year-old was left off the club's preseason tour of China after failing to make an impression on new manager Jose Mourinho during the summer. Varela will now join up with the Bundesliga side after sparsely appearing throughout the past few seasons since his arrival from Uruguayan side in 2013. The Uruguay international made 10 appearances for the senior side in the past season after making his debut at right-back against West Ham in December.

Guillermo Varela was excellent going forward playing a part in Manchester United's first two goals as the Red Devils shocked Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford.

It truly has been the Theatre of Dreams this week as youngsters have seen Premier League dreams come true on big stages. Marcus Rashford has been the biggest headline but Guillermo Varela played a key role in Manchester United's massive win today. He did his part in keeping the left side of the Arsenal attack, one that includes Alexis Sanchez, quiet outside of an early Nacho Monreal chance that David De Gea saved fairly easily. That would have been enough but that he was a plus going forward can be seen as nothing other than a huge bonus.
