Tottenham have formally announced that Etienne Capoue has joined Watford on what is believed to be a £5million transfer.
Capoue, believed to be part of a package deal between Spurs and Watford that could also include Benjamin Stambouli, should see the field much more at Watford than he did at Spurs. After a high profile move to the North London club as part of the class of summer signings that came in to replace Gareth Bale, playing time failed to materialize. With Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb ascendant in holding midfield roles, Capoue's move was inevitable. As Watford's new record signing, he should be a guaranteed starter. Jul 6 - 8:46 AM

The midfield clear-out at Tottenham looks set to continue with Etienne Capoue and Benjamin Stambouli likely to join Premier League new boys Watford.

Capoue is said to be close to agreeing personal terms while negotiations with Stambouli aren’t as advanced but the Hornets are confident of making the Spurs duo their fifth and sixth new signing since promotion to the top flight. Having already seen Paulinho depart for $15 million to Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande FC Pochettino looks to be clearing the decks ready for some fresh blood with Emmanuel Adebayor, Younes Kaboul, Roberto Soldado, Vlad Chiriches and Aaron Lennon all available for transfer. Spurs have been linked with a number of players throughout Europe including Mitrovic [Anderlecht] and former Southampton loanee Toby Alderweireld while deals have already been concluded for Kevin Wimmer [Cologne] and Kieran Trippier [Burnley].

Sky sources understand that Napoli are in talks with Tottenham over Etienne Capoue.

Capoue arrived in the summer and made a bright start before missing two months of the season with an ankle injury picked up against Arsenal. Since his return there have been reports that his attitude has failed to impress new manager Tim Sherwood and the Frenc midfielder has fallen behind young Nabil Bentaleb in the first team pecking order. Sky report that Napoli Sporting Director Riccardo Bigon is expected in London on Thursday to discuss a £9million move, or failing that, a loan deal until the end of the season.

Tottenham's France midfielder Etienne Capoue will be out for four weeks after a scan revealed he sprained an ankle in Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Arsenal.

This is far better than first feared, especially as two of the four weeks will be during the international break. Capoue will still be missed, but Sandro is now fit and ready to take his place as the man to break up the oppositions play in midfield.

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has admitted he has concerns about the fitness of new signing Etienne Capoue after he was carried off with a leg injury in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

This looked like a really bad one and AVB basically admitted it looks like a broken leg. What a huge blow it will be for Tottenham after Capoue had made such an impressive start in his first few appearances for the club. The good news is Sandro is ready to step back in after his return from a long-term knee injury, but it's sad news for the young French midfielder.

He was relegated to the substitute's bench but despite playing so few minutes Etienne Capoue tied for the lead in passes intercepted this weekend.

Michael Carrick was in position to intercept a LOT of passes against pass-happy Swansea this weekend - he intercepted six over the full match which was among the best in Europe and top of the Premier League charts on the season's opening weekend. The shock co-leader for the week was Etienne Capoue who intercepted the same number despite his brief time on the field. This bodes well for Spurs new acquisition and will lead to a new round of inquiries into why, exactly, Arsenal didn't pursue Capoue to fill their giant hole defensive midfield.
