Etienne Capoue opened the scoring as Watford defeated Manchester United 3-1 on Sunday.
Capoue was again lethal - in his new box-to-box midfield role - scoring his fourth goal of the season in an impressive victory over a struggling Manchester United. His goal was a product of an error by Anthony Martial, stripped of the ball by Miguel Britos, which resulted in a Daryl Janmaat cross that found Capoue in open space to score his fourth goal in five league matches. Zuniga would go on to add Watford's second in the 83rd-minute and produced their third, as Deeney sealed the match by smashing home the ensuing spot kick after Zuniga was fouled by Fellaini. Etienne Capoue has started out the season on fire with three goals in four matches. What can we expect next from a player who isn't known as a goal scorer?

Capoue is an interesting case. Typically classified as a holding midfielder, he has that skill set (he was relevant in some formats last season on the strength of his peripheral defending stats). This season has seen Walter Mazzarri position Capoue in more of a box-to-box role that has afforded him the chance to have the occasional crack on goal. Capoue's conversion rate on those chances (3 goals on 4 SOTs) isn't sustainable. What could be sustainable and valuable is if the SOT rate stays the same along with solid peripheral stats. If he puts in 1 in 4 SOTs and keeps getting roughly one per match he's still very useful as a starter in draft/auction fantasy formats and even potentially in salary cap if the salary is still low.

Etienne Capoue doubled his Premier League goals tally with a wonder strike to open the scoring against Chelsea, but the sight of the French midfielder limping off will be the cause of great concern for Watford.

With only a single top flight goal to his name previously [scored for Tottenham in January, 2014] few would’ve expected Capoue to have started the new campaign in such style. His first at St Marys’ on the opening weekend, helped the Golden Boys to a share of the spoils. His second, on Saturday, came when he lashed home a deep Adlene Guedioura cross, which left Chelsea searching for an equaliser until the 80th minute. However, the game ended on a sour note for Capoue, who was helped from the field following a last-ditch tackle to deny Diego Costa. As the Spanish striker set himself, Capoue slid in to knock the ball away with Costa landing a heavy blow to the back of his leg. Ben Watson is a ready replacement if Capoue fails to recover in time for the visit of Arsenal.

Despite taking an early second-half lead, Watford couldn't take any points from an inspired Chelsea in a 2-1 home loss.

Of all the players to lead the club in scoring, Etienne Capoue may have been near the bottom of the list of favorites. The former Spurs midfielder now has a career high in scoring with two Premier League goals—after just one goal in his entire top-flight career—after scoring in the opener and a goal to take the lead against Chelsea in the 55th minute. With the goal, Capoue has scored both of the club's goals in the first two matches of the season, but the Hornets couldn't find a way to secure the win or even a point from Chelsea after conceding two goals in the last 10 minutes.

Watford managed a good away point in Walter Mazzarri's debut despite only one shot on target.

It was an unlikely goal from Etienne Capoue who scored early on what turned out to be the Hornets' only shot on target against the Saints. The hosts dominated possession and eventually got a goal from debutant Nathan Redmond to even the score. The Hornets managed to keep the score even despite losing Ben Watson to a red card in the 76th minute.

Etienne Capoue has been ruled out for the final match of the season.

Capoue has been one of the finds of the season in the Premier League. Cast aside by Spurs after playing in both holding midfield and central defense in North London, the France international has found new life as a holding midfielder for Watford. He was injured in the FA Cup defeat to Crystal Palace in late April and will apparently not recover in time to feature in Watford's final match. Regardless of who replaces Quique Sanchez Flores next season, Capoue seems like a keeper once he returns to health.
May 13 - 3:20 PM

Quique Sanchez Flores confirmed Etienne Capoue suffered a ‘serious’ injury during the semi-final defeat to Crystal Palace although the precise nature of the problem is not yet known.

Capoue dangled a leg as the marauding Bolasie broke and television replays showed the midfielder taking a smash to the knee which didn’t ‘look good’ according to the match commentators. Following several minutes of treatment, Capoue tried in vain to continue but he dropped to the turf once again before he was eventually stretchered off. The influential 27-year-old – who arrived from Tottenham last summer - will head for a scan on Monday amid fears he sustained ligament damage. If confirmed, the injury will effectively end Capoue’s season and could have implications on his 2016/17 campaign.

Etienne Capoue was forced off during the Hornets' 1-1 draw with Everton last weekend but has recovered and will be available for the trip to the Hawthorns this weekend.

Capoue has been a steady presence for the Hornets and fantasy managers alike. In formats that favor peripheral defensive stats like tackles won, interceptions and blocked shots he has churned out steady weeks that make him a worthy low-end starter in draft/auction formats. He isn't generally a worthwhile option for salary cap and similar formats where all players are available to every owner.

Etienne Capoue has been a rock for Watford this season but he will have to race against time to recover from illness in time to feature at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

A visit to high-flying Spurs will require Watford to be at their best and the potential absence of former Spurs man Capoue or Capoue operating at something less than full health could be a problem. Watford's strategy is based on a sound defense supported by opportunistic attacking and Capoue has been at the center of that. If he is absent or diminished it seems unlikely that the Hornets have the attacking firepower to get anything from a match at the Lane.

Etienne Capoue and Allan Nyom were both strong but they couldn't stem the tide for the entire match and Arsenal eventually earned a hard-fought 3-0 win at Vicarage Road.

It isn't often that defenders are impressive while losing 3-0 at home but Capoue and Nyom appeared to be everywhere as Watford frustrated Arsenal for the first 61 minutes of their contest at Vicarage Road. Arsenal eventually converted their dominance in possession to a 3-0 win. This will be the issue for the Hornets going forward, they defended valiantly but they just didn't have enough going forward to really trouble the second place team in the league. The Hornets only managed a single shot on target and 33% of the possession in the match.

Tottenham have formally announced that Etienne Capoue has joined Watford on what is believed to be a £5million transfer.

Capoue, believed to be part of a package deal between Spurs and Watford that could also include Benjamin Stambouli, should see the field much more at Watford than he did at Spurs. After a high profile move to the North London club as part of the class of summer signings that came in to replace Gareth Bale, playing time failed to materialize. With Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb ascendant in holding midfield roles, Capoue's move was inevitable. As Watford's new record signing, he should be a guaranteed starter.

The midfield clear-out at Tottenham looks set to continue with Etienne Capoue and Benjamin Stambouli likely to join Premier League new boys Watford.

Capoue is said to be close to agreeing personal terms while negotiations with Stambouli aren’t as advanced but the Hornets are confident of making the Spurs duo their fifth and sixth new signing since promotion to the top flight. Having already seen Paulinho depart for $15 million to Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande FC Pochettino looks to be clearing the decks ready for some fresh blood with Emmanuel Adebayor, Younes Kaboul, Roberto Soldado, Vlad Chiriches and Aaron Lennon all available for transfer. Spurs have been linked with a number of players throughout Europe including Mitrovic [Anderlecht] and former Southampton loanee Toby Alderweireld while deals have already been concluded for Kevin Wimmer [Cologne] and Kieran Trippier [Burnley].

Sky sources understand that Napoli are in talks with Tottenham over Etienne Capoue.

Capoue arrived in the summer and made a bright start before missing two months of the season with an ankle injury picked up against Arsenal. Since his return there have been reports that his attitude has failed to impress new manager Tim Sherwood and the Frenc midfielder has fallen behind young Nabil Bentaleb in the first team pecking order. Sky report that Napoli Sporting Director Riccardo Bigon is expected in London on Thursday to discuss a £9million move, or failing that, a loan deal until the end of the season.

Tottenham's France midfielder Etienne Capoue will be out for four weeks after a scan revealed he sprained an ankle in Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Arsenal.

This is far better than first feared, especially as two of the four weeks will be during the international break. Capoue will still be missed, but Sandro is now fit and ready to take his place as the man to break up the oppositions play in midfield.
