Southampton centre-back Maya Yoshida and captain Steven Davis have called out their teammates to improve their PL results.
After just 2 wins in their first 8 games, Southampton and their manager Mauricio Pellegrino are under pressure with much tougher waters to be negotiated after a run of straightforward fixtures after the international break. Yoshida, who netted a scrappy goal in the 2-1 defeat to Stoke last weekend said post match that "a goal is a goal but the most important thing is the three points today. But we couldn’t get them and we couldn’t play well. Perhaps we couldn’t get the points but we didn’t show our qualities either. That’s my frustration." After dominating possession and shots statistics, the Sainst failed to make their control translate to goals or even shots on target - an familiar issue. "We had a lot of possession but we didn’t make the most of it," said Davis. "It’s another frustrating one and we’re disappointed not to come away with anything" Oct 2 - 11:25 AM

Southampton got an early goal from Steven Davis and took advantage of a Crystal Palace side in disarray as the Saints pick up three points on the road in a 0-1 final.

The Saints have been struggling with their attack so far this season and the proof of it is that Davis is now the club's top scorer in the FPL format among midfielders and forwards. He celebrated his 200th appearance with Southampton by scoring the game's lone goal early on in the sixth minute. Dusan Tadic was able to slip through on the right flank and get a ball on target. Palace's keeper could only palm away into the path of Davis who tapped it in. The Saints cruised through the first half, mainly duew to a steady influence in midfield by Mario Lemina. Palace began to threaten in the second half, but Fraser Forster was not tested too much. Another storyline of note, Virgil van Dijk was named to the squad and got a cameo in the closing minutes as he looks to work his way back into a starting role.

Southampton are edging closer to signing Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina.

Lemina will become new boss Mauricio Pellegrino's second signing after acquiring Jan Bednarek from Lech Poznan earlier in the transfer window. He is expected to arrive at St. Mary's within 48 hours to complete his medical. Southampton have fended off competition from Watford, Leicester, and Stoke to secure the signature of the Gabonese international and are expected to pay £18 million for the midfielder. Lemina was not part of the Juve squad which visited Wembley to play Spurs on Saturday. He is a defensively minded midfielder who will threaten the place of Steven Davis in the Saints' starting XI. His arrival is a further blow for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has failed to displace the Northern Irishman since arriving from Bayern in 2016.

Southampton joint-captain Steven Davis is available for selection to face Man City on Saturday.

The Northern Ireland international missed the Saints' win over West Brom last weekend after picking up an injury late on in the win against Crystal Palace three days earlier. In his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Puel said: "For Davo he will be available for the team again."

Southampton joint-captain Steven Davis is a doubt for Southampton's visit to the Hawthorns on Saturday.

The Northern Ireland international went off with minutes to go in Wednesday's 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace, just after the Saints had scored their second goal in three minutes to put the result beyond doubt. Manager Claude Puel said that he is unsure that Davis will be able to line out on Saturday: ""We don't know the situation of the injury of Davis and we will see all this with calm". He added: "It's an injury to his ankle and we will see with the doctor if he can participate."

Steven Davis will miss Wednesdays FA Cup replay against Norwich after failing to recover from the knock he picked up during the 1-0 win over Liverpool seven days ago.

Claude Puel confirmed prior to game week 21 that Davis was struggling and that he would face a late fitness test, but it now looks like the Northern Ireland international is set to miss his second game in succession due to an unspecified injury. The Saints are also without long-term absentees Alex McCarthy, Charlie Austin, Jake Hesketh, Matt Targett and Jeremy Pied while Puel will check on defenders van Dijk and Bertrand who have "slight" issues. "We will see on some players who have some pain, like Virgil and Ryan. We will see this." Southampton were denied a win at Carrow Road on January 7 after Steven Naismith grabbed an injury time equaliser to force the replay.

Amid rumours that Victor Wanyama is set to leave, Southampton has locked down a critical part of its midfield in Steven Davis.

The 31-year-old is currently captaining Northern Ireland at the country's first European championships, but that didn't prevent him from signing a new three-year contract to keep him at the St Mary's through the summer of 2019. Davis has made 155 appearances in all competitions for Saints since arriving at the club in 2012. Last season, the midfielder scored five goals for the sixth-place finishers, leading a resurgence at the end of the season. Davis joins James Ward-Prowse, Fraser Forster and Virgil van Dijk in recently signing new contracts at the club.

Steven Davis doubled his season goal tally with a brace and Ronald Koeman grabbed his first win against Tottenham as Southampton came from behind to win 1-2 at White Hart Lane.

Southampton are finishing the season on a strong run, having taken 13 points from their last five games. Their win today moves them above West Ham United for sixth position in the table, though the Hammers have a game in hand. After falling behind early, the Saints found an equalizer just after the half hour mark. Kyle Walker went to ground just as Southampton went on the attack, allowing Dusan Tadic to sweep the ball into Davis inside the six-yard box and Davis took a touch with his right foot to poke it past Hugo Lloris. The Saints were the better side from then on and Davis was once again teed up by Tadic in the 72nd minute to score the match-winner with a low shot just inside the post. A draw or loss by West Ham against Manchester United in midweek would set Southampton up to finish sixth, as they play their last game at home to Crystal Palace.

Steven Davies "is not fit" after picking up an ankle injury at Leicester last weekend.

Ronald Koeman says he has been told by the medical team that Davis would "normally" be ready for a return within 2-3 weeks, therefore "I don't know if he's available" to face Everton in game week thirty-four. However, there was better news regarding Shane Long who "is back in team for this weekend" following his recovery from a patellar tendon problem. Matty Targett is also available for selection after shaking off a minor knock. Charlie Austin and Jay Rodriguez are both fit but Southampton are unlikely to make wholesale changes despite their loss to the league leaders.

Goals in the first half from Steven Davis and Graziano Pelle put Southampton in a comfortable position to defeat AFC Bournemouth, 2-0.

Both goals came within five minutes of each other and both were scored by magnificent crosses from the left. First, Ryan Bertrand curled a beautiful cross to find Davis at the back post for an easy score, then Dusan Tadic showed some nifty footwork to send a rainbow cross into the area where Pelle headed it home. Bournemouth didn't show much life to battle back, even when a second yellow for Victor Wanyama gave the Cherries a man advantage for the final 12 minutes. An easy clean sheet for the Saints defense, though it is uncertain if captain Jose Fonte's halftime substitution for Maya Yoshida was injury related or tactical.

Steven Davis captained Northern Ireland to a vital win in the Euro 2016 qualifier on Friday.

Davis played well for his country and was vital in their win over the Faroe Islands. He is expected to captain the club again tomorrow against Hungary in a very important match that could end up deciding if his country qualifies for the Euro 2016 tournament. The Southampton midfielder has been in and out of the Saints squad this season and the uncertainty has given a hit to his fantasy value. He is only an option in very deep leagues at this moment.

Steven Davis won Man of the Match honors in the Republic of Ireland's draw against Romania.

Davis was fantastic in the match, much like he was with Southampton at times this season. The midfielder earned regular playing time this year and was fifth in minutes played on the Saints' squad. He featured in 35 matches but only registered two assists, as most of his contributions were effort and defense based. The lack of scoring and assisting really hurts his fantasy value, resulting in an 4.4 fantasy point per match average in the Yahoo! game. He is only an option in the very last rounds of fantasy drafts next season.

Steven Davis is probable for GW32 after missing time with an ankle problem.

Davis missed the Everton clash with an ankle injury but has returned to training and will be available for selection this weekend. He has had a good season and should be inserted back into the starting lineup, but his fantasy value is questionable with Southampton's form declining. No one on the Saints can score right now, so Davis' assist potential is limited and he is not a known goal-scorer. Be careful if using him in fantasy.

Southampton's Steven Davis is a doubt for the clash against Everton this weekend.

Davis has a groin strain and is unlikely to feature against Everton. The injury is not expected to be serious and he could be back as soon as next week. James Ward-Prowse, Dusan Tadic, and Eljero Elia are set to benefit from his absence, but it's not entirely clear who will start for the Saints.

Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill confirmed post-match on Sunday that influential captain and Southampton midfielder Steven Davis was withdrawn during the win over Finland because of a thigh issue.

Davis became the second Southampton player to return from international duty with a problem following the withdrawal of Matt Targett [England under-21] although the extent of either injury is not yet known. However with the exception of long-term absentees [Jay Rodriguez, Fraser Forster & Emmanuel Mayuka] Ronald Koeman has a pretty healthy squad at his disposal and options in midfield are plentiful. If Davis does miss out this weekend [away Everton] then the Saints will need to make at least one enforced change from the side which beat Burnley with Victor Wanyama or James Ward-Prowse most likely to come into the eleven.
