West Brom announced over the weekend that they have released Liam Ridgewell, Zoltan Gera, Diego Lugano, and Steven Reid.
After narrowly escaping relegation and sacking Pepe Mel, the changes continue at West Brom as veteran players Ridgewell, Lugano, Reid and Gera have all been released. While Lugano, Reid and Gera are all decidedly squad players for the Baggies with 7, 16 and 5 starts respectively in the league Ridgewell led the team with 33 starts and will need to be replaced at left back. Combined with loan players Scott Sinclair, Morgan Amalfitano, Matej Vydra, Thievy Bifouma and Goran Popov leaving the new manager will have a lot of work to do retooling the squad for next season. Liam Ridgewell will miss West Brom's Week 36 home match with West Ham due to an ongoing knee injury.

Ordinarily, the absence of a reasonably productive starting outside back is cause to take a look at the alternatives for fantasy bargains. Not so much this week with West Brom weak at the best of times and half of their starting defense potentially missing between Ridgewell and Gareth McAuley who faces a late fitness check. If you're looking for a reasonably priced defender I'd check out Antonin Alcaraz or Jordi Amat before heading down the West Brom reserve path.

West Brom's right back/deputy center back Liam Ridgewell is subject of interest from Fulham as his current contract enters it's final year.

Ridgewell is a solid Premier League player who would represent decent depth for the Cottagers if he came to the club. The concern would be that he would add to the group of players who are on the wrong side of their athletic prime. At 29, Ridgewell would join Brede Hangeland, John Arne Riise and Sascha Riether as veterans at the back for Fulham. This isn't necessarily a bad thing immediately but having a team with few salable assets that are all a risk to decline steeply at the same time will mean the club will have to spend to replace most of the first team defense and other key positions soon.
