Spurs have confirmed that Vlad Chiriches is leaving White Hart Lane for Serie A and Napoli on a permanent deal.
Chiriches was initially hailed as the solution for Spurs at center back but never really panned out. Spurs have spent the summer trimming spare parts like Younes Kaboul and Chiriches with rumors that Andros Townsend, Aaron Lennon, Erik Lamela, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Roberto Soldado could also follow. These are all solid moves from Spurs but with minimal inbound transfer activity thus far this summer it raises the question of how deep this club will be when the season kicks off. Tottenham have signed Kevin Wimmer, an Austrian center back by way of FC Köln, to a five year contract.

Already the youngest squad in the top flight, Spurs continue to plant seeds for the future with the signing of the twenty-two year old center back. Brought in for a fee of 4.3M, Wimmer will likely not work himself immediately into the XI, but with the possibility of both Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches leaving White Hart Lane this summer, it shouldn't leave the new signing too far down the depth chart. Wimmer has a reputation for sacrificing his body to get the job done, evidenced by leading the Bundeslinga in blocks this past season.

Vlad Chiriches was sent off after accumulating his second yellow card for a rough tackle on Mame Biram Diouf and Tottenham would be beaten thoroughly on the day by Stoke City, 3-0.

Waves of Spurs supporters who made the trip to the Britannia left early in this one and for good reason. Other than a few flashes in the first half, Tottenham brought very little to the table. Chiriches hasn't seen too much first team action lately and it showed on the two clumsy fouls that got him booked. The defense in front of Hugo Lloris has been the Achilles' heel of this Spurs side and will be an area that needs to be addressed over the summer.

Tottenham had the unenviable task of trying to gain a positive result at Stamford Bridge but despite a less-than-shocking 3-0 loss to Chelsea, their defending was particularly woeful.

With both Kyle Naughton and Eric Dier available to Mauricio Pochettino, the Hotspur manager elected to go with Vlad Chiriches at right back. While the Romanian is normally used to a center back role, he did a good enough job over the weekend in Spurs defeat of Everton that Pochettino decided to give him another shot. The move backfired as Chelsea exploited his side of the pitch and once the scoring was opened, it was clear the defense selected was never going t do well in such a difficult matchup. Even Hugo Lloris, normally world class week after week, committed a poor clearance that led directly to Chelsea's second goal. Spurs continue to spin their mid-table wheels as they look for the spark that elevates them to a top side in the league.

Tottenham defender Vlad Chiriches admits he is unhappy at White Hart Lane due to a lack of first-team action amid reported interest in his services from Inter Milan.

Chiriches had a bright start to his Tottenham career before picking up a back injury that ruled him out for much of the second half of the season, and his limited performances this season have been little short of disastrous. One particularly poor match in the Europa League has led to the Romanian falling behind Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul, Fazio and Eric Dier in the pecking order, so he could well be allowed to leave in January to allow Maurico Pochettino to bring in his own choice of central defender.

Tottenham defender Vlad Chiriches is a summer transfer target for AS Roma.

Chiriches had a bright start to his Tottenham career before picking up a back injury that ruled him out for much of the second half of the season, and there have been constant rumors that the 24-year-old is unsettled in England. Sky Sports are now reporting that Spurs will allow Chiriches to move if they can recoup the £7.5m fee paid last summer, with Roma interested. If the a move does happen then Mauricio Pochettino may need to bring in two defenders, with Michael Dawson also free to leave the club.

Spurs defender Vlad Chiriches broke his nose this weekend in a collision with Newcastle's Yoan Gouffran. He was substituted in that match and will now miss Romania's matches over the international break.

If Chririches can't return for Spurs against Manchester City, they'll hope that Danny Rose is fit to play and that Jan Vertonghen can resume playing in the center of defence.
