Martin Demichelis had a dismal match as the central defender was culpable in the lone goal, should have been penalized for another and contributed to an injury to Joe Hart in City's 1-0 loss.
Usually it is Eliquim Mangala who conspires to put Manchester City in trouble at the back when things go wrong but today it was his emergency partner, Martin Demichelis, who did the "honors". With first choice center backs Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi both out injured, Demichelis committed a string of errors that led to City's 1-0 derby loss. Marcus Rashford went by him easily twice scoring once and aggrieved not to be awarded a penalty once. Early in the second half, the Argentine defender made a weak back pass to Joe Hart who injured his calf making an emergency clearance and had to come off. Mar 20 - 2:11 PM

The shuffle along the back-line will continue this week as Martin Demichelis has been ruled out of the Champions League group stage finale against Borussia Monchengladbach due to a muscle injury.

Manuel Pellegrini said he hoped to have the Argentine defender back for the weekend: "Demichelis has a problem in his tendon which he already had in the last game so I thought it wouldn’t be good for him to continue playing. He should be back in 2-3 days." Eliaquim Mangala will return to the squad after missing the loss to Stoke City due to a yellow-card suspension. Nicolas Otamendi is expected to keep his starting spot but Vincent Kompany is set to remain sidelined as he recovers from a lingering calf injury.

Manchester City conceded twice in the opening quarter hour and could not find the net themselves as Stoke City dispatched of them, 2-0.

The absence of Vincent Kompany was felt yet again for the Sky Blues as Stoke scored in the 7th minute and never looked back. Martin Demichelis has been an inadequate replacement to say the least. Of course, the lack of Yaya Toure in the middle of the pitch and Sergio Aguero offering danger in attack did not help their cause either. If the three clubs below them in the table win their match this week, City could slip all the way down to fourth place.

Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis says he will "fight" for the club, for his team-mates and for titles after signing a new contract.

Demichelis has been trading game time with Eliaquim Mangala over the course of the season but has certainly been the more reliable of the two defenders, and his improved form over the past 18 months has earned him improved terms and a one year extension. The deal will keep the 34-year-old at the club until the end of next season.

Martin Demichelis tallied the first goal of the season for Manchester City's defensive unit against Arsenal this past weekend.

The defending champions have struggled with clean sheets in 2014. They started the year off with a 2-0 win at Newcastle, but since then have failed to record a shutout in their last three matches. With a tough home game vs Chelsea coming up in Week 5, and three of their next four versus Top 6 opponents (currently), a shutout at Hull in Week 6 looks like the best case scenario for a team that hasn't looked all that bad defensively.

Roma have set a deadline for Manchester City to buy Morocco’s Mehdi Benatia.

The Guardian are reporting that Roma are trying to force City’s hand by setting a 21 July deadline for the sale of Benatia, and want £30million for the central defender. However, City's preference is Porto’s £35million rated Eliaquim Mangala, so the Premier League champions are unlikely to be pressured in to buying their second choice until the chances of a deal for Mangala are 100% over. The arrival of either player would provide a new first choice partner for Vincent Kompany in the heart of defence, which would raise questions over the future of Martin Demichelis and Matija Nastasic.

Argentina took an early lead with a goal from Gonzalo Higuain and were able to make it hold up for 90 minutes as they edge Belgium 1-0 and head to the World Cup semi-finals for the first time in 24 years.

Higuain finally made an impact in this tournament and it couldn't come at a better time as Belgium were able to keep Lionel Messi at bay, including a 1 on 1 with Tibaut Courtois late that Messi just couldn't finish. Higuain smashed a volley from a cross that deflected into his path for the score and would later rattle the bar. If he can keep his form, it may be enough to help Messi reach the finals. The inclusion of Demichelis in defense was well-timed also, as he played an integral part in keeping Belgium out of the net. They now await the winner of Netherlands vs Costa Rica.

Manchester City face an uphill task to progress to the quarter finals of the Champions League after a 2-0 home defeat against Barcelona in the 1st leg of the last 16.

Manuel Pellegrini's men had defended well during the the first half, but the game swung when Martin Demichelis was sent off nine minutes in to the second half for bringing down Lionel Messi with a clumsy tackle. The foul started just outside the area, but a penalty was awarded, and Messi stepped up put the visitors ahead. Barca dominated the rest of the game against ten men, and Daniel Alves latched on to a Neymar pass to score the second goal in the 90th minute to give City a near impossible task to turn things around in three weeks' time.

Martin Demichelis is back in the Manchester City squad for the Carling Cup semi-final against West Ham after recovering from injury.

Demichelis' return will push Joleon Lescott back down the pecking order as the Argentine will challenge Matija Nastatsic for the right to partner captain Vincent Kompany at the heart of the City defence. The tweet from Rob Dawson also included information about Micah Richards, who needs "more work" before he's ready to feature again.

Martin Demichelis claims to be free of injury and ready to stake a claim for a regular role at Manchester City.

Demichelis has had a tough start to his City career, first with injury and then in a difficult debut against Chelsea, but he already appears to be ahead of Joleon Lescott (who failed to make the matchday squad) and is a better option than playing Javier Garcia out of position. Vincent Kompany is a certain starter when fit so Demichelis will have to compete with Matija Nastatsic to start City's biggest matches.

Martin Demichelis is out for at least six weeks after suffering knee ligament damage in a Manchester City training session yesterday.

What a disaster for Manuel Pellegrini. At 32 years old, Demichelis was really only purchased as a stop-gap to allow Vincent Kompany to recover fully from his injury and prevent Javi Garcia from ever having to cover again, but it now appears the new signing could be out longer than the captain himself. With Micah Richard also struggling with a variety of fitness issues it will mean Joleon Lescott and Matija Nastasic continue as the partnership at the back until late October - and they looked less than secure against Hull in Week 3.
