Manchester City will already have its hands full trying to prepare for Barcelona on Tuesday night and now must figure out who to start at right-back.
The Sky Blues received a massive boost on Monday when Pablo Zabaleta returned to training from a foot injury sustained in the club's 4-0 loss to Barcelona at the Camp Nou two weeks ago. Yet manager Pep Guardiola said he has yet to make a decision with 19-year-old Pablo Maffeo and midfielder Fernando also in contention (Bacary Sagna is still recovering from injury) along the same side where Neymar makes his magic happen: "We have to think that we have not got a right back – we have one who has recently played there and one who is 19. We have some players out, and they do." Nov 1 - 8:41 AM

Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta ended speculation of an exit by confirming he will remain at the club this summer.

The 31-year-old right-back confirmed that he spoke to new manager Pep Guardiola, who assured him that he has a place in the team this season with only one year left on his current contract. Zabaleta will likely play second-fiddle to Bacary Sagna once again this season, but the Argentine said he does not have any interest in leaving the club: "I've always been away from that because I knew from the first day it was my decision [to stay]. I had been told my the new manager that I was part of this squad for this season, so I am more than pleased for this because City was my priority."

Pablo Zabaleta's star fell significantly at the Etihad last season and now comes word that he may be on his way to the Eternal City with Roma.

All the signs are there for a move. Zabaleta is in the final year of his contract. He lost the starting role at City to Bacary Sagna last season. Roma specifically and Serie A in general seem to love fading Premier League outside backs. This has led to a seemingly-reasonable rumor that Zabaleta will be moving to Roma for a fee of £2.5 million. City get his wages off the books and make room for Pep to bring in a defender of his own choosing. Look for more deals like this over the course of the summer as Guardiola transforms his new squad.

Pablo Zabaleta will spend more time on the sidelines with the Argentine full-back set for surgery to remedy a troublesome ankle problem.

Zabaleta suffered a calf strain at Southampton in game week thirty-six and the defender confirmed via his Twitter account that the injury had ended his campaign prematurely: ‘Sadly after an MRI scan I can confirm a muscle tear grade 2 in my left calf which is around 3 weeks off’. However, Zabaleta was expected to be ready for the Copa America which starts in June. But reports now suggest that the 31-year-old will go under the knife to ensure his fitness ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League season meaning Zabaleta will miss the tournament.

Manuel Pellegrini provided a mixed injury update ahead of his sides’ trip to Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

The Chilean boss revealed Yaya Toure had re-joined the group in training after overcoming a muscular problem. But right-back Pablo Zabaleta will miss the remainder of the campaign after suffering a calf strain at St Marys’ on Sunday. Following Tuesdays’ Champions League pre-match media briefing, the 31-year-old provided his own update via Twitter: ‘Sadly after an MRI scan I can confirm a muscle tear grade 2 in my left calf which is around 3 weeks off’. If City do progress to the final then Zabaleta could make the game which is scheduled for May 28 at the San Siro in Milan. He joins David Silva in the treatment room – hamstring – who will also miss around 21-days. Bacary Sagna is set to deputise in his absence.

Manchester City will have to do without Pablo Zabaleta and David Silva for Wednesday's showdown with Real Madrid due to injury.

While Zabaleta didn't feature against Real Madrid in the 0-0 draw at the Etihad in the first leg last week, City could be vulnerable at the right-back position. It will be up to Bacary Sagna to slow down Cristiano Ronaldo, who didn't play in the first leg but has been deemed 100 percent fit for the UEFA Champions League second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu. Meanwhile, the news of David Silva comes as no surprise given that the midfielder is likely set to miss the rest of the Premier League season after suffering a hamstring injury in the 40th minute of the first leg last week.

Manchester City could see the return of several key starters for the busy week ahead after Fernando and Pablo Zabaleta returned to training.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini did not elaborate on the starting status of the injury returnees, but confirmed Vincent Kompany has also joined the group in training: "The injury situation is better – we’ll have the complete squad recovered apart from Samir Nasri. Pablo Zabaleta, Fernando and Vincent Kompany have all worked with the squad normally." Zabaleta has missed the last month with a knee injury while Fernando was absent for the past fortnight due to a hamstring problem. However, the duo may have to wait to regain their starting spots, making them a risky fantasy pick.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed that while Pablo Zabaleta and Fernando need more time to recover from their respective injuries, Martin Demichelis is set to return to face Swansea City.

Said Pellegrini: "Martin was just a precaution last game – he’s on the squad list. Fernando and Zabaleta are not ready yet. At least two or three weeks more for Fernando. Pablo I hope in the next week he can start working." Demichelis missed the mid-week Champions League win due to a muscle injury, but could now challenge Eliaquim Mangala for the start alongside Nicolas Otamendi. Zabaleta is still struggling with a knee injury while Bacary Sagna continues to see time at right-back, although Gael Clichy got the start on Tuesday.

Manchester City will be without three starting defenders when the club faces off with Southampton on Saturday as Pablo Zabaleta, Vincent Kompany and Eliaquim Mangala were all ruled out with various injuries.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini said at his weekly press conference that Zabaleta has aggravated a preexisting knee injury while Mangala will not play this week: "Zabaleta is out for a couple of weeks more – he has the same injury in the ligament in his knee. He needs a treatment now so he will be out for at least ten days, while Mangala has a muscle problem in his hamstring but I think he will be fit for Stoke." Kompany, meanwhile, continues to struggle with a calf injury that has bothered him for the past month. Martin Demichelis, Bacary Sagna and Nicolas Otamendi are expected to fill in.

Pablo Zabaleta is set to return from a knee injury ahead of schedule in hopes of being in the team to face Liverpool in Week 13.

The Argentine defender has missed the last three weeks after injuring the same knee that kept him out for the beginning of the season. But Zabaleta said he is hoping to return this week after taking the international break to recover: "I am doing OK, progressing well and trying to be fit for the visit of Liverpool after the international break...hopefully everything will go well and I'll be available for our next game." Once fully fit, Zabaleta is expected to challenge Bacary Sagna for the starting right-back position, but it could still be a couple more weeks.

Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta will head back to the training table after suffering another medial knee ligament injury on the same knee that kept him over to start the season.

However, Manuel Pellegrini relieved fears that the right-back could be set for a longer spell on the sidelines: "Pablo has the same injury in his medial ligament – it’s not so bad as the first one he had. We soon have the international break so he should be fit after that - in 25 days he will be ready." Bacary Sagna will most likely take over at right-back just as he has done throughout the season while Zabaleta is in line to return for Week 13.

Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Pablo Zabaleta suffered a recurrence of the medial knee ligament injury which kept the 30-year-old out for over a month earlier this season.

Zabaleta will be assessed to determine the full extent of the problem but initial reports suggest that the defender will miss at least 4-6 weeks. Zabaleta has made just two Premier League starts this season, however, in his absence Bacary Sagna has flourished playing regular first team football for the first time since his arrival from Arsenal. City take on Norwich this weekend and Pellegrini is hoping to be able to call upon one or two of his returning stars. Samir Nasri is back with the main group while the Chilean remains "optimistic" that David Silva could play a part. Fabian Delph is targeting a return against his former employers in GW12 after stepping up his rehab on Monday.

Bacary Sagna looks set to continue his run in the City first team after Pablo Zabaleta was ruled out for up-to a month after damaging knee ligaments in training.

The Argentine had been working his way back to full fitness following his late return – Copa America – but this latest setback will hand Sagna an opportunity to establish himself for the first time since joining City back in 2014. On the opposite flank Aleksandar Kolarov also looks to have nailed down a starting berth for the foreseeable following an outstanding start to the season. The Serbian has now started nine consecutive PL matches and with Gael Clichy not match fit the 29 year-old dead ball specialist is worth some serious fantasy consideration with games against Watford, Palace, West Ham and Sunderland coming up.

Pablo Zabaleta is expected to return to the starting line-up on Tuesday after missing the Copa America opener against Paraguay because of a minor ankle sprain.

Zabaleta played every minute of the World Cup finals in Brazil under former coach Alejandro Sabella and the Manchester City full-back plays a pivotal role for his country. His timely return will be welcomed after Argentina let a 2-goal lead slip last weekend and any further mistakes against their main rivals - Uruguay - will cost La Albiceleste top spot in Group B. Sergio Aguero will be hoping to add to his goal tally as he partners Angel di Maria and Lionel Messi in a 3-prong attack while club teammate Martin Demichelis is likely to continue on the bench with Ezequiel Garay and Nicolas Otamendi playing in the heart of defence.

Pablo Zabaleta is likely to earn a start against Burnley tomorrow, making him a very good choice for fantasy managers.

Zabaleta was rested in Manchester City's Boxing Day match and he will likely be utilized in their home encounter against Burnley. With how bad Burnley have been on the road, Manchester City's clean sheet chances are the best of any match tomorrow, making Zabaleta an excellent fantasy choice. Aleksandar Kolarov is another good option to get into the City defense.
