The FA has reduced Nemanja Matic's ban to just two matches, one less than the original three match-ban.
Chelsea are still furious with the decision as Ashley Barnes goes unpunished for his horrible challenge that caused Matic to retaliate and be sent off. This certainly helps Chelsea, as they now only have to play one Premier League game without Matic(his first match out is the Capital One Cup final). Expect Matic to come back in week 28 and use him as you normally would. Feb 26 - 8:48 AM

Chelsea will appeal to have Nemanja Matic's three-match ban revoked.

There is some controversy about Ashley Barnes not being punished for his challenge on Nemanja Matic and Chelsea have decided to appeal Matic's red-card. A situation similar to this one allowed West Ham goalkeeper Adrian to have a suspension overruled due to Mane committing a foul on him right before the red-card challenge. This could be a huge boost for the Blues if they can get the suspension removed since Matic has been one of their most important players this season. With Premier League matches against Southampton and West Ham coming up, this suspension alone can be a deciding factor in the title race.

Nemanja Matic will serve a three-match ban after getting sent off in Chelsea's 1-1 draw against Burnley.

Matic was brought down hard by Ashley Barnes and in turn got up and pushed the Burnley forward to the ground. The reaction was uncalled for despite the referee's miss of the challenge and Matic was deservedly sent off. The Chelsea anchor-man will now miss Sunday's Capital One Cup final against Tottenham and then two extremely important games versus Southampton and West Ham in gameweeks 27 and 28. John Obi Mikel will likely start in his place if he can recover from injury, and if not, Ramires will likely get the start.

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has big plans for the Blues this season, saying a quadruple is possible for this squad.

The 26-year-old has been a huge part of what Chelsea have done this season and deserves all the praise in the world. He has been solid defensively and has gone up in attack when needed. Despite the great contributions, he has only averaged five fantasy points per match, which makes him a poor choice for managers. His lack of attacking stats keep his value down, so enjoy watching him play and fade him in fantasy leagues.

Nemanja Matic, Chelsea's most relied upon defensive midfielder, will miss out the Blues trip to Newcastle this weekend as he serves a one game suspension for accumulating his fifth yellow card before year's end.

Jose Mourinho has Ramires and Mikel to choose from as a replacement and though Matic has been rock steady in his role, their result at St. James's Park should not hinge on his absence. Things may have been a bit trickier if Cesc Fabregas was carded in midweek. He was on four yellows as well and will miss a game should he pick up a fifth in the next few weeks.

Nemanja Matic got the on the scoresheet in Chelsea's 1-1 draw in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Matic has now scored three goals in all competitions this season but that still doesn't make him into a viable fantasy option. He's sitting on 44 points in the Yahoo! game, which averages out to 4 points per game, not nearly enough to be relied upon weekly. There are plenty of Chelsea midfielders that are useful in fantasy but Matic is not one of them.

Nemanja Matic has become an integral part to Chelsea's success in both the Premier League and Champions League.

Matic scored a goal to give Chelsea a 1-0 win over Sporting Lisbon to further prove his worth. The defensive midfielder is mostly known for his contributions on the defensive side of the pitch, but he also provides an important passing skill to the Chelsea attack. The problem with Matic comes in fantasy. He doesn't provide enough attacking stats to give fantasy managers enough production, only averaging six points per game. Avoid him in fantasy but enjoy his importance on Chelsea's squad.

Jose Mourinho has praised new Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic after a series of impressive performances.

Mourinho brought Matic to Chelsea in the January transfer window but many focused on Juan Mata's departure. It turns out Mourinho was right and Matic is indeed exactly what Chelsea needed. The Serbian has played the so called "Makelele role" for the Blues and has dominated in multiple ways. He often marks the oppositions best attacking midfielder, he closes down passing lanes, and he provides a big body in the box. He does a great job of keeping possession and keeping the ball moving on the attack. Matic has also been a decent contributor on the fantasy sheet, mainly through defensive stats. At a price of £ 9.82M, he can be considered for fantasy teams as a low risk, low upside option.

Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah are ineligible to represent Chelsea in the Champions League due to having played in the competition with a different team this year.

Matic and Salah have already played this year for Benfica and Basle, respectively. Matic has already established himself as a first team starter for Chelsea and his height and presence will be missed in the competition. This could be good news for fantasy owners, as the duo will be fresh for Premier League action after not playing in midweek.

Yahoo has announced all new transfers to the Premier League have now been added to the game, available for selection on the eve of gameweek 25.

Matic, Mitroglu, Armero, Salah, et cetera, are all available now, and all at tantalizing introductory prices. Most players new to the PL, unless they are truly world class or their new club have a complete void at that position, are not handed starts right out of the chute, so it would be best to give most of these fresh faces a bit of pitch time, and once they have established themselves, invest before inflation.

Chelsea's new signing Nemanja Matic played an instrumental part in Chelsea's win over Manchester City last weekend and looks to be a big part of the club's future.

Matic was all over the field as can be seen in the heat map found at the link below. He had 10 clearances and won 4 of his 5 headed duels. Matic did a great job of covering Yaya Toure and his defensive efforts were one of the big reasons Chelsea held a clean sheet against the best scoring team in the league. If he establishes a consistent first team role, his defensive stats might be enough for him to be considered for fantasy purposes.

Jose Mourinho insisted Nemanja Matic won't start against Manchester United but will probably in the match squad.

Matic just joined Chelsea and it seems he hasn't earned the trust of Mourinho to start in such a big match. Matic has the quality to become a semi-regular starter at Chelsea but considering he is in a congested defensive midfield with Frank Lampard, Ramires, John Obi Mikel, and David Luiz, I wouldn't trust him until he establishes some sort of role.

After being dealt away in the deal for David Luiz, Nemanja Matic returns to Chelsea from Benfica with an eye toward shoring up the defensive midfield.

The 6'4" Serb arrives at a Chelsea club that, despite riding high in the standings, has questions all around the park. The particular question that he will be asked to answer sooner or later is "what is the long term plan for the holding midfield role(s)?". With Mikel no better than adequate, Michael Essien aging rapidly, Ramires more of a box-to-box type, and Frank Lampard a strong passer and attacker but not much of a defensive presence Jose Mourinho has turned to David Luiz as a holding midfielder from time to time. None of the above are perfect solutions which gives Matic a chance to lock down a spot in the starting eleven sooner rather than later with the start of next season the longest he will likely be kept out of the line-up. From a fantasy standpoint, Matic will have to get a lot of tackles and intercepted passes to provide any value because he has never been a bit shooter/scorer at any stop along his career path.
