Argentine club Newell's Old Boys have confirmed the signing of Sunderland striker Ignacio Scocco.
As we discussed yesterday, Scocco signed in January and was expected to provide competition for Steven Fletcher and Jozy Altidore, but the move has been a disaster. The 29-year-old striker failed to start a game or score a goal after his arrival, as Gus Poyet limited him to just six disappointing Premier League appearances from the bench, and Sunderland have decided to cut their losses. Scocco is returning for his third spell at the Argentine club. Jul 24 - 5:07 AM

Sunderland have signed striker Ignacio Scocco on a two-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Scocco has been capped by Argentina and joins from Brazilian side Internacional. The 28-year-old striker will provide competition for Steven Fletcher and Jozy Altidore, who have both struggled for goals this season. Compatriots Oscar Ustari and Santiago Vergini are already on Wearside, having been signed earlier this month and the club have also brought in defender Marcos Alonso on loan from Fiorentina. Gus Poyet is starting to put his own stamp on the club after Paolo Di Canio's ill-fated spell.
