A member of Tottenham Hotspur since 2006, veteran left back Benoit Assou-Ekotto has had his contract cancelled and is now a free agent.
Assou-Ekotto was once the nailed on left back for Spurs but had not made an appearance for the club since May 2013. With the devlopment of Danny Rose along with the addition of Ben Davies over the summer, Assou-Ekotto became surplus to requirements and the £40,000/week wages were burning a hole in Tottenham's budget. At 30 years of age, he should latch on to a new club eventually. Mon, Feb 2, 2015 05:02:00 PM

Standard Liege defender Daniel Opare has welcomed speculation suggesting he could be a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

The 22-year old Ghana international is said to have been recommended to Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas by the club's new technical director Franco Baldini. He can play as an attacking full-back on either the left or right so could be seen as a potential back-up for Kyle Walker or perhaps even a replacement for Benoit Assou-Ekotto, who has been linked to a move away from the club this summer.

The Daily Mail understand that Tottenham left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto is wanted by ambitious Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Assou-Ekotto had a disappointing season for Spurs and often found himself on the bench as Andre Villas-Boas preferred Kyle Naughton or Jan Vertonghen at left-back. If an offer of around £6million came in then the club may be tempted to allow the 29-year old to leave and use the money to buy a replacement, or give Danny Rose a chance next season.
