Abou Diaby, who had been in serious talks with the Baggies about a move, has decided to head back to France to link up with Marseille on a free.
After an injury-riddled tenure at Arsenal, the one-time France international was something of a low-risk, big-reward play on the transfer market for second tier teams this summer. With West Brom the closest to making a deal in England, Abou Diaby decided he would head back to France instead. Tony Pulis is definitely in need of squad depth at all positions even after the acquisition of James Chester so losing out on Diaby, speculative thought the move might have been, is at least a minor blow. Forgotten man and perennial injury absentee Abou Diaby made a timely return to action for Arsenal on Tuesday playing over 60 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly win against Brentford.

The match arranged at the London Colney training ground provided the perfect opportunity for Arsene Wenger to assess the fitness of a number of his recent crocked stars. Abou Diaby [thigh & calf] was joined by Mikel Arteta [ankle], Mathieu Debuchy [shoulder] and Jack Wilshere [ankle] with each playing at least a half. Although this weekend is likely to prove a little too early for the quartet – certainly in terms of a start – the good news is that for the first time [in a long while] Arsenal are making progress on the injury front. Both Aaron Ramsey [groin] and Tomas Rosicky [illness] should be fine for GW31 but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain [hamstring] and Danny Welbeck [knee] will continue to receive treatment ahead of the game.

News broke early on Thursday that Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby had suffered yet another injury with his latest setback – a hamstring tear – expected to rule out the French man for up to three months.

However within hours the club made an official statement confirming the player is NOT injured and trained as normal with the first team squad that morning. Injuries have blighted the career of Diaby with over 40 separate reported problems stretching back to 2005 - the midfielder is in the final year of his current contract - and another significant issue at this point would finally extinguish any hopes of an extension. With only 10 starts since 2011 – an undoubted talent – Diaby has never been allowed to fulfil his potential with many citing the Dan Smith tackle back in 2006 at Sunderland – fractured & dislocated ankle – as being the cause ALL of his subsequent problems.

Arsenal midfielder Alou Diaby could miss Sundays Community Shield final against current British Premier League champions Manchester City at Wembley because of a hip injury.

Any hope of French midfielder Alou Diaby making next weekend’s league opener at home to Crystal Palace were dealt a severe blow when L'Equipe reported the player was struggling with an injury he sustained during Arsenals’ recent friendly match-up against the New York Red Bulls. The setback represents the latest in a long line of injury-related problems which restricted Diaby to just 16 minutes of league football during the last campaign and only ten starts since 2011/12. Although there's been no official word from the club the player was pictured training during an open session with his movement suggesting the problem may only be minor.
