Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar might remain on the bench even when he returns to full fitness.
Aston Villa have enjoyed some good form from Jores Okore and Ciaran Clark and manager Paul Lambert won't rush Vlaar back to the starting lineup. With Ron Vlaar possibly leaving in January, we don't blame Lambert for preparing for the future. At the same time, Vlaar playing and showing he is healthy could certainly improve his price on the transfer market. Dec 12 - 12:09 AM

Ron Vlaar is missing GW13 with a calf issue as he is still dealing with rumors about a transfer.

The rumors about Ron Vlaar are getting stronger and stronger and we may be seeing the defender move to a big club in January. That should make Villa cautious to make sure he doesn't suffer an injury beforehand so we don't expect to see Vlaar out there unless he is at 100%. His value would increase significantly at a bigger club.
Nov 28 - 3:03 PM

Ron Vlaar's agent has started rumors about the defender possibly moving to Manchester United or Arsenal in the near future.

Both clubs would present a very interesting option for the Netherlands defender. Both are big clubs with big aspirations and both are in need of a solid center-back at the moment. Vlaar's contract expires in the summer but Aston Villa could try to move him in January in an attempt to get something in return. Vlaar is a proven defender at the top level and would be a great signing for any club.
Nov 13 - 8:48 PM

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar was active in his return to action this weekend and finished with eight fantasy points.

The Villa defender registered two blocked shots, two passes intercepted, and two tackles won. That was decent for someone just returning from injury and Vlaar showed why he is a valid fantasy option even without a clean sheet. He is cheap enough in most formats to where he makes for an excellent choice in plus matchups. Villa just came out of a very rough stretch of matches and their schedule gets easier with QPR, Tottenham, West Ham, Southampton, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, and West Brom up next.
Oct 22 - 8:02 PM

Dutch defender Ron Vlaar is closing in on a return to first team action as the Aston Villa skipper looks to step up his recovery from a calf injury during the international break.

Vlaar will miss the upcoming Euro qualifying games against Kazakhstan and Iceland to focus on a return in game week eight when Villa travel to Goodison Park. After a win at Anfield – their third in the opening four games – Villa were sitting pretty in the Premier but a loss to Arsenal at home with a decimated squad [illness] was followed up by tricky set of fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester City which have left the Claret & Blues on the slide. The return of Ron Vlaar will be a major boost with an important set of matches coming up but Paul Lambert will be very aware that he doesn’t rush his captain back too quickly after a history of muscular problems. Nathan Baker could continue to deputise in his absence.
Oct 7 - 6:35 AM

Ron Vlaar continues to struggle with a calf injury and will miss the weekend match against Manchester City.

Vlaar has now missed a number of games with this injury and Paul Lambert doesn't think he can make it back in time for this weekend. Lambert also mentioned that Vlaar is doing really well and all signs point towards him making a return for Aston Villa's next Premier League game, which is against Everton on October 18th.
Oct 2 - 8:31 PM

Ron Vlaar is a major doubt for Aston Villa's match against Arsenal this weekend.

Vlaar is struggling with a calf injury and likely won't be available when his team faces Arsenal. That's a big blow for Villa as they are a significantly better side with Vlaar involved. When healthy, he provides a level of experience and skill that's among the most consistent in the Premier League. We recommend him for fantasy in plus matchups, but of course he is not to be considered this week due to the injury.

Ron Vlaar is a late-fitness check ahead of Aston Villa's weekend clash against Liverpool.

Ron Vlaar suffered a calf injury last weekend in Villa's clash against Hull City and will have to face a late fitness check ahead of this weekend's match against Liverpool. Vlaar didn't participate in Holland's Euro 2016 Qualifier as he is still recovering from the calf injury. The Netherlands defender only had a short break between the World Cup and the start of the Premier League season and small injuries like this one might be a regular occurrence this season. Keep and eye out for his status if you use him in any fantasy leagues.

Aston Villa escaped their home opener with a point thanks to another clean sheet by Ron Vlaar and company as they finished 0-0 with Newcastle United.

Amazingly, Villa sit on four points after two games having registered a total of ONE shot on target. Today, obviously, they had none. Possession and midfield work was fair, but every time they reached the final third, it was an inaccurate pass here, a shot sailing well into the crowd there...it is clear they are in serious trouble this season in terms of staying in the top flight unless they can find another dynamic player or two to strengthen the attack. Otherwise, they will have to rely heavily on their defense to keep up their end of the bargain.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has made it clear that defender Ron Vlaar is not for sale.

There has been interest for Vlaar after his impressive World Cup performance but the Aston Villa defender has been labeled not for sale. Paul Lambert is under pressure to improve his team's performance and the loss of Vlaar would be huge. Ron Vlaar has a year left on his contract but Lambert is determined to get Vlaar to agree to an extension soon. Vlaar's fantasy value can increase as Villa's defense improves with the return of Jores Okore.

New Southampton manager Ronald Koeman had admitted that Ron Vlaar is a possible target for Southampton if Dejan Lovren forces a move away from the Saints.

There have been rumors about Lovren being unhappy at Southampton and that he is trying to force a move to Liverpool. If he can force the move, Southampton will need to replace him and Ron Vlaar is reportedly a target. Vlaar had an amazing World Cup, leading his Netherlands side to a third-place finish. Vlaar's fantasy value would be about the same whether he leaves Aston Villa or goes to Southampton.

Jul 20 - 2:47 PM

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is expected to talk to Ron Vlaar, Fabian Delph, and Gabby Agbonlahor about their futures at the club as soon as they return from summer vacation.

Ron Vlaar is still competing in the World Cup as his Netherlands side faces Costa Rica on Saturday. He will be allowed extra time off to recover from the World Cup. When the players return, they will discuss their future with Paul Lambert. All three players are important to Villa and considering the Claret and Blue don't have a lot of money for transfers, keeping their players will be top priority.
Jul 3 - 7:18 PM

Ron Vlaar helped the Netherlands keep a clean sheet in their 2-0 win over Wales in a World Cup warm-up match.

Vlaar is a very important player for the Netherlands and he played well against Wales today. The Netherlands are in a very tough group and they'll need their defense to play extremely well if they want to advance past the group stages. Arjen Robben and Jeremain Lens scored the goals for the Dutch. Robin van Persie limped off the pitch but Louis van Gaal stated after the game that RvP is healthy and the substitution was just a precaution. Expect van Persie to be ready to play in the group stages.

Ron Vlaar played a great game in Aston Villa's 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace but it wasn't enough to earn his team any points.

Aston Villa continued to struggle without Christian Benteke and they are finding goals difficult to come by. Grant Holt is not doing enough up top to make any team nervous and the supporting cast is average at best. Villa have lost four in a row and have entered the relegation battle. They are only four points ahead of Fulham and if they continue playing this poorly, they may find themselves relegated. Paul Lambert will have to find a way to get goals in what are shaping to be a difficult five games left on Villa's schedule.

Ron Vlaar returned from a hamstring injury to Aston Villa's starting XI, and the club captain aided in keeping Cardiff City out in a 0-0 draw at Cardiff City Stadium.

Villa continue to do well defensively away from home and Vlaar makes them a better unit, but his efforts don't translate too well to fantasy, especially with a seemingly nailed on Ryan Bertrand available for well less than half the price. It was a frustrating evening for their attack however, as Christisn Benteke, Fabian Delph, Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann all missed out on some great chances to score.
