There has been interest for Vlaar after his impressive World Cup performance but the Aston Villa defender has been labeled not for sale. Paul Lambert is under pressure to improve his team's performance and the loss of Vlaar would be huge. Ron Vlaar has a year left on his contract but Lambert is determined to get Vlaar to agree to an extension soon. Vlaar's fantasy value can increase as Villa's defense improves with the return of Jores Okore. Jul 23 - 4:45 PM

New Southampton manager Ronald Koeman had admitted that Ron Vlaar is a possible target for Southampton if Dejan Lovren forces a move away from the Saints.

There have been rumors about Lovren being unhappy at Southampton and that he is trying to force a move to Liverpool. If he can force the move, Southampton will need to replace him and Ron Vlaar is reportedly a target. Vlaar had an amazing World Cup, leading his Netherlands side to a third-place finish. Vlaar's fantasy value would be about the same whether he leaves Aston Villa or goes to Southampton.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is expected to talk to Ron Vlaar, Fabian Delph, and Gabby Agbonlahor about their futures at the club as soon as they return from summer vacation.

Ron Vlaar is still competing in the World Cup as his Netherlands side faces Costa Rica on Saturday. He will be allowed extra time off to recover from the World Cup. When the players return, they will discuss their future with Paul Lambert. All three players are important to Villa and considering the Claret and Blue don't have a lot of money for transfers, keeping their players will be top priority.

Ron Vlaar helped the Netherlands keep a clean sheet in their 2-0 win over Wales in a World Cup warm-up match.

Vlaar is a very important player for the Netherlands and he played well against Wales today. The Netherlands are in a very tough group and they'll need their defense to play extremely well if they want to advance past the group stages. Arjen Robben and Jeremain Lens scored the goals for the Dutch. Robin van Persie limped off the pitch but Louis van Gaal stated after the game that RvP is healthy and the substitution was just a precaution. Expect van Persie to be ready to play in the group stages.

Ron Vlaar played a great game in Aston Villa's 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace but it wasn't enough to earn his team any points.

Aston Villa continued to struggle without Christian Benteke and they are finding goals difficult to come by. Grant Holt is not doing enough up top to make any team nervous and the supporting cast is average at best. Villa have lost four in a row and have entered the relegation battle. They are only four points ahead of Fulham and if they continue playing this poorly, they may find themselves relegated. Paul Lambert will have to find a way to get goals in what are shaping to be a difficult five games left on Villa's schedule.

Ron Vlaar returned from a hamstring injury to Aston Villa's starting XI, and the club captain aided in keeping Cardiff City out in a 0-0 draw at Cardiff City Stadium.

Villa continue to do well defensively away from home and Vlaar makes them a better unit, but his efforts don't translate too well to fantasy, especially with a seemingly nailed on Ryan Bertrand available for well less than half the price. It was a frustrating evening for their attack however, as Christisn Benteke, Fabian Delph, Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann all missed out on some great chances to score.

Ron Vlaar is doubtful for Aston Villa's match against Cardiff on Tuesday.

Vlaar seems to be having problems with his hamstring but still has a chance to make the squad. If he is healthy enough, he will play as Aston Villa have struggled defensively and find themselves close to the relegation zone but that sound like the case at the moment. Ciaran Clark and Nathan Baker will probably start and could be decent options against a poor Cardiff side.
Feb 10 - 12:42 PM

Ron Vlaar is considered doubtful for Aston Villa's game against West Ham on Saturday.

Vlaar is struggling to be fit with a hamstring injury that saw him leave the pitch in Villa's last game. The good news for VIlla is that Andy Carroll is suspended and West Ham's attack is one of the worst int he league without him. The game looks a lot like a 0-0 draw and playing defenders from either side wouldn't be a bad idea.
Feb 6 - 8:23 PM

Ron Vlaar started and played all 90 minutes against Arsenal.

Vlaar missed out against Crystal Palace in midweek and this was his first full game back after returning from a calf injury. The Villa captain looked healthy and active against Arsenal and had an amazing goal saving tackle to deny Nacho Monreal. Vlaar reinforces the Villa defense and can usually be a valuable fantasy asset. This week he faces Liverpool so I would wait until next week to pick him up.

Ron Vlaar and Nathan Baker will face late fitness tests ahead of Aston Villa's match against Arsenal on Monday.

Vlaar returned against Sunderland but seemed to suffer a minor setback and missed out on Villa's FA Cup Match. He will face a late fitness test to determine his availability for Monday's match. Brad Guzan and Gabby Agbonlahor will both be fit and available for selection against Arsenal.

Ron Vlaar is very doubtful for Aston Villa's match against Crystal Palace on Thursday.

Vlaar has been getting closer and closer to a return but that isn't likely to happen this week. A more realistic return date would be January 1st against Sunderland. Vlaar is a huge part of Villa's defense and will make an immediate impact upon his return. He will be a good fantasy option against lesser oppositions once he returns.

Ron Vlaar is very doubtful and is expected to miss out on Aston Villa's game with Stoke City this weekend.

Vlaar is still recovering from a calf injury and he won't be returning on Saturday. With that being said, he is recovering well and could feature as soon as Thursday when Aston Villa play Crystal Palace at home. With Vlaar missing extended time, I would take a wait and see approach when considering him for my fantasy squad. Teammate Christopher Herd is expected to return this weekend.

Ron Vlaar is very doubtful for Aston Villa's match against Fulham this weekend with a calf injury.

With Antonio Luna also missing the game, expect Ciaran Clark, Nathan Baker, Leandro Bacuna and Matthew Lowton to step in for Aston Villa. Brad Guzan is no longer a good goalkeeper option with two of his best defenders missing.

Ron Vlaar helped Holland secure a 2014 World Cup spot in Brazil with a 2-0 victory over Andorra.

Vlaar played all 90 minutes and was in form as he has been all season. Robin Van Persie scored both goals in the game, while Vlaar received a yellow card. Vlaar is one of the Villa's main pieces in defense and is guaranteed a starting spot in the foreseeable future. Aston Villa are at home to Newcastle this week, so Ron Vlaar could be a good choice for your fantasy team with a good chance of a clean sheet.
