West Ham have released defender Joey O'Brien.
O'Brien hasn't played much in the past year and will not be brought back for next season. A mix of injuries and lack of form has prevented him from getting in the rotation and it's unlikely another Premier League team picks him up. He is not a fantasy option for next season. West Ham announced that the club won't be re-signing defender Joey O'Brien once his contract expires this summer.

The 30-year-old Republic of Ireland international joined the Hammers on a free transfer in the summer of 2011, helping the team earn promotion back into the Premier League. Over the course of five years, O'Brien made 105 appearances for the first team, but faded in his final year at Upton Park with only one FA Cup appearance to his name this past season. The full-back joins youth forward Elliot Lee and a trio of loan players (Victor Moses, Emmanuel Emenike, and Alex Song) on the club's released list.

Joey O'Brien could miss West Ham's week two match against Leicester due to a knock.

The defender is likely not starting regardless of injury so this shouldn't be a huge blow for the Hammers. O'Brien only comes into play if there are significant injuries to West Ham's back line and he shouldn't be owned in any fantasy leagues at the moment.

Joey O'Brien picked up an injury during West Ham's Europa League match today.

O'Brien was replaced in the 35th minute by Reece Burke as he limped off the pitch. We don't know how serious the injury is but O'Brien is to be considered questionable heading into week one. If he can't go, Reece Burke will likely get the start and have good fantasy value after a solid showing last season that saw him pile up fantasy points in a short amount of time.

West Ham's injury decimated defense struggled once again in a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal this weekend.

The Hammers had to start Joey O'Brien, Cheikhou Kouyate, Aaron Cresswell, and James Collins across the back and as expected, they weren't very good at defending. Cresswell is known for his attacking ability, Kouyate is better in midfield, O'Brien is simply not good, and Collins is the fourth string center-back. Unless their defense gets healthy, we would avoid all Hammers defenders and especially goalkeeper Adrian.

Joey O'Brien will miss West Ham's match against QPR tomorrow due to a knee problem.

O'Brien has been ruled out for the match with a knee issue and we don't have a recovery timetable for him. With O'Brien out, you can expect Aaron Cresswell to continue starting at left-back while Carl Jenkinson and Guy Demel will likely battle for the right-back spot. Demel is dealing with an injury himself, so Jenkinson will likely be the beneficiary of all of these injuries.

Joey O'Brien has recovered from a shoulder injury and is available for selection for this weekend's match.

O'Brien will have to battle George McCartney and Pablo Armero for a starting spot and is no where near guaranteed to start against Crystal Palace. I have Armero on my bench as I have a hunch that he'll get the start but I would not include any of these three players in my first XI.

West Ham defender Joey O'Brien has dislocated his shoulder and is out for up to three months.

Another injury blow for West Ham sees O'Brien out for an extended spell. New signing Pablo Armero should establish a consistent role immediately and will be a good fantasy pick. West Ham are also expecting to see Winston Reid back in the near future and his return should provide enough defensive cover while O'Brien is out.

West Ham United have signed left-wing back Pablo Armero from Napoli on a season-long loan.

Pablo Armero can play just about anywhere on the left side and could be a great fantasy asset if he is listed as a defender in the Yahoo! game. West Ham are currently tied for first in clean sheets in the Premier League and their defense will get an extra boost with the imminent return of Winston Reid. The clean sheet points combined with the attacking skills Armero displays can be enough for him to be fantasy relevant. Armero has 49 appearances for the Columbian national team and brings great experience, speed, and stamina to West Ham.

Joey O'Brien could make his return from a knock this weekend and he will certainly be needed by West Ham's depleted squad.

The Hammers are depleted at the back and O'Brien's return can certainly help them out. They face a Newcastle squad that can score goals and that leaves O'Brien as a fairly poor fantasy option. I'd rather have Newcastle's Steven Taylor who recently returned from a long term injury and costs under £4M.
