Huddersfield Town midfielder Dean Whitehead has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2017/18 Premier League season.
The former Sunderland, Stoke City and Middlesbrough man has made 56 appearances for Huddersfield since arriving in the summer of 2015, featuring 20 times during the 2016/17 Championship campaign. Though Whitehead won't likely play as much as he did last season, manager David Wagner said the midfielder will still be a very important part of the squad. "We shared our thoughts on what we both expect from the upcoming season and agreed that even if he plays less for us, he is still a very important part of the team and our dressing room," Wagner said. The 35-year-old has made 230 appearances in the Premier League, with the club’s second-most top-flight experienced player, Tom Ince, having made just 15 appearances. Wagner added: "I am very happy that he [Whitehead] will be at this club for a further season; he is a true professional and a really good character." Jul 6 - 3:37 PM

Premier League newcomers Huddersfield Town have offered veteran midfielder Dean Whitehead new contract at the John Smith's Stadium.

The 35-year-old midfielder did not feature for Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-offs, but the club have announced he will be handed a new contract as they look to retain his experience ahead of their first-ever Premier League campaign. "Of the current First Team group, midfielder Dean Whitehead and goalkeeper Luke Coddington will be offered new contracts by the Club," Huddersfield confirmed on their official website. Whitehead, a former Sunderland, Stoke and Middlesbrough player, made 20 appearances for David Wagner's side this season, while Coddington, 21, spent part of the term on loan at National League side Wrexham.
