Micah Richards was a notable absentee at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday as Villa lost for the 21st time in the Premier League this season.
Post-match Remi Garde revealed his skipper – who was dropped for the visit of Tottenham last weekend – had picked up a problem in training: "It is a groin injury. I don’t think (he will be out long) the doctor has told me it is a light injury." The international break will help the likes of Jack Grealish and Adama Traore be ready in time for the early kick-off in game week thirty-two as Villa attempt to salvage some shred of credibility from their season. Only two sides in the top four tiers of English football – York City (22) and Dagenham (23) – have lost more than Villa in 2015/16 although both League Two teams have played more matches making the Claret and Blues (statistically) the worst of all 92 clubs. Remi Garde is sweating on the fitness of captain Micah Richards after the Villa defender was forced off at Wycombe Wanderers due to a foot / ankle related problem.

Richards – playing at right back in place of the injured Alan Hutton (hamstring) – opened the scoring at Adams Park yesterday as Villa left with a share of the spoils to force a replay against their League One counterparts. But, the 27-year-old was withdrawn with less than 10 minutes remaining and his involvement in the upcoming Premier League matches against Crystal Palace and Leicester City is questionable. However, initial reports do suggest the injury is not serious. "I don't know exactly," Remi Garde said on the extent of Richards’ injury. "He had to come off. I haven't spoken with the doctor yet. I don't think it's very important - but it was important enough for him to ask to come off." Joleon Lescott could be called upon as an emergency full-back to help fill the void.

Micah Richards is still out and will miss the weekend's match against Arsenal.

This is not good news for Aston Villa, who have really struggled in defense. Richards has been one of their few bright spots in the back and he'll be missed this week against a strong Arsenal side. The good news is that Ciaran Clark is available again and should start.

Micah Richards remains a major doubt for the trip to St Marys. The Aston Villa captain is struggling to overcome a niggling knee problem which he picked up during last weekends’ home defeat by Watford.

Remi Garde confirmed on Thursday that Richards is yet to train this week but refused to rule his summer signing out just yet. The loss of the 27-year-old would be a huge blow for Villa who are already without services of the suspended Ciaran Clark after the Irishman collected his fifth caution of the season. His absence is likely to mean a return for Joleon Lescott while the fit-again Jores Okore could deputise for Richards if he fails a late fitness test. Phillippe Senderos is not available for selection after Tim Sherwood decided not to name the former Swiss international in his 25 man Premier League squad.

Micah Richards believes that Tim Sherwood should have been given more time in charge of Aston Villa.

Sherwood was sacked earlier this week after Aston Villa began the season in horrible fashion and find themselves in last place. Richards believes that Sherwood was on a good path and doesn't think Villa will get relegated. Obviously, others don't agree, but it's also hard to blame Sherwood. Aston Villa's squad is not good and they have very few Premier League level players. Expect them to continue being bad.

Micah Richards was featured in Pro Soccer Talk's Team of the Week for gameweek one.

Richards was fantastic in Aston Villa's win over Bournemouth and deservedly makes the Team of the Week. Richards has been named Villa captain for the season ahead and is virtually guaranteed to start every game for the foreseeable future as long as he's healthy. He is a solid fantasy choice in leagues that reward phantom points for defensive statistics such as tackles and passes intercepted.

Micah Richards is healthy and ready to go in gameweek 1.

Richards was named the Aston Villa captain so he is almost sure to start in tomorrow's match. There are no worries here and Richards can be trusted in leagues that reward phantom points. Villa don't have a huge chance at a clean sheet, so he'll have to earn his points elsewhere.

Micah Richards picked up a knock in Aston Villa's match against Wolverhampton last night.

Richards has had his deal of injuries in the past few years and it's slightly concerning seeing him pick up a knock in pre-season. The Villa defender has been given the armband ahead of the season and was hoping to lead Villa on the pitch this year. He is currently being assessed to determine the severity of the knock, but we'll consider him questionable for week one.

Micah Richards wore the armband for Aston Villa once ahead tonight and seems set to be their captain for the upcoming season.

Richards is a quality center-back who's had trouble staying fit the past couple of seasons but Aston Villa are giving him a chance at revitalizing his career. Richards getting the armband in pre-season is a huge vote of confidence from Tim Sherwood and we like his chances of starting this season as long as he remains fit. Villa's defense should be decent enough to see Richards perform as an average fantasy defenders, and he can provide good value in late fantasy drafts.

Micah Richards' transfer to Aston Villa is official, as the defender signs a four year contract.

Richards has been told by Villa that they are giving him an opportunity to revitalize his career with a crack at a center half role with the club. Assuming Jores Okore is locked in as the future for one of those spots, the offer Villa are making seems to put the future of Ron Vlaar in jeopardy, whose nailed-on status fell apart after a generally disappointing season. He should be on fantasy managers' minds during the upcoming preseason to gauge exactly how he figures into Tim Sherwood's plans.

Reports across the UK have Micah Richards passing a medical at Aston Villa in advance of signing a four-year deal with the club after leaving Manchester City on a Bosman.

Micah Richards is the next in a long line of one-time fringe England hopefuls who have seen their careers stall at a petro-dollar-driven top Premier League club. In Richards' case, his time at City pre-dated the influx of cash, but he was no less marginalized than Shawn Wright-Philips, Wayne Bridge, Joe Cole, Joleon Lescott, Scott Sinclair, or Jack Rodwell in their times at either Chelsea or City. Hopefully, Richards can rebound like Lescott did after leaving for West Brom rather than fading into obscurity as most of the others have.

Manchester City defender Micah Richards is expected to leave the club during the summer transfer window with Aston Villa leading the chase to sign the former England international.

Richards has just returned to the Etihad following a disappointing season long loan deal at Fiorentina and the defender – who was once touted as the future England captain – is hoping to get his career back on track having started just 16 league games since the beginning of 2012/13. With the future of Ron Vlaar uncertain and fitness concerns over Philippe Senderos and Jores Okore, Richards could prove the ideal fit at Villa Park as Tim Sherwood begins to stamp his own mark on the club. Tom Cleverley ended his season long loan deal while Darren Bent has been allowed to leave along with Enda Stevens. Chris Herd will be assessed throughout the summer as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

Manchester City have agreed to a season long loan of Micah Richards to Serie A side Fiorentina.

With Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta already in tow, Richards was never going to see much time at right back for the Sky Blues without a rash of injuries so the move makes sense as the rare case of an English player makes the move to Serie A.

With Mathieu Debuchy presumably out the door to Arsenal, Newcastle have been linked with Micah Richards, Daryl Janmaat, and Ricardo van Rhijn among others as potential replacements at right back.

That Mathieu Debuchy and his sill haircut are headed out the exit door and toward the entrance at the Emirates Stadium seems pretty well set in stone. What comes next is that Newcastle have to identify a replacement for one of their better players last season. Micah Richards, long touted as having great potential, has been injured a lot and generally failed to move past great-athlete-with-questionable-skills/instincts. Part of the issue could be that Manchester City have upgraded the roster significantly at exactly the time he would have wanted to be breaking in as a first team regular. If he can stay healthy he might be a great "buy low" option for the Magpies. If not, buying Debuchy's successor abroad probably makes more sense financially.

Manchester City are willing to accept a knockdown fee for Micah Richards.

Richards made just two Premier League appearances for the club last season and has fallen down the pecking order due to injuries and the form of Pablo Zabaleta. Reports suggest City are open to offers that would include significant add-ons based on appearances, given his injury history. Arsenal have been linked with a move for the right-back after Bacary Sagna moved in the opposite direction last month, while Newcastle and Liverpool have also shown interest.
