Norwich manager Alex Neil has reported made Celtic’s Dutch centre back Virgil van Dijk his priority transfer target this summer…
The Under 21 international has attracted the attention of several PL clubs during an impressive two seasons with SPL Champions Celtic, scoring nine goal in 71 appearances. Sunderland were thought to be favourites for his signature offering striker Steven Fletcher in the opposite direction, but the deal has stalled over Fletcher’s wage demands. This could leave the door open for Norwich with a fee of around £8 million thought to be required. Manager Alex Neil will know van Dijk from his time in charge of Hamilton Accies and has made him his number one transfer target ahead of his sides’ return to the PL. The possible fly in the ointment is the lure of the Champions League, so any move might be dependent on Celtic’s fate in the qualifying rounds. Sat, Jun 20, 2015 12:26:00 PM

Defender and Cameroon international Sebastien Bassong has signed a new deal with Norwich City that will keep him at Carrow Road until 2016.

The 27 year-old defender missed a few games while struggling to regain his fitness from preseason knee surgery, but said he's feeling better and really pleased with the opportunity to commit himself even more to the club. Bassong has gone the full 90 minutes in nine of the Canaries 16 matches this season, helping the team earn four clean sheets along the way - two of which have come within the last three games. Norwich will look to continue their recent success this weekend when they take on 10th-ranked Swansea at home. Hovering just four points above the relegation zone at the moment, Bassong will need help sure up any inconsistencies in a back line that conceded five goals to Liverpool last Wednesday. It seems as if the teams' Captain is up for the challenge.

Defender Sebastien Bassong made his playing return after off-season knee surgery by playing an hour in Norwich City's U21 win over Stoke City.

Norwich are thin at center back, and would welcome the return of last year's player of the year to partner Michael Turner, who himself is just back from injury. Surely Bassong's recovery will take some more time, but this hour of match time is a great first step.
