West Brom officially announced defender Jonas Olsson has left the club to return to his home country.
The club agreed to terminate the final three months of Olsson's contract so that the Swedish international can join Stockholm-based Djurgarden IF before the start of the season. The 34-year-old defender has not featured since starting against Spurs in Gameweek 21 and has been an unused substitute in every game since. In total, Olsson has made seven starts in the Premier League this season. The move to Sweden ends a nearly nine-season association with the Baggies, where he accumulated 253 appearances. Said Olsson: "I'm really grateful to the club for helping me sort out this transfer. I still feel I have a few good years in me but such is the quality of the competition at Albion for places in my position, it was getting harder and harder to see a first team opportunity." Jonas Olsson left last weekend's 1-0 victory over Newcastle with a hamstring injury and is questionable to be ready for a return in Week 20 against Stoke City.

Tony Pulis has relied significantly on Olsson in his four center back alignment since Olsson returned from injury earlier in the season. Pulis doesn't seem at all impressed with his reserve options if Olsson isn't available. He brought in Craig Gardner for Olsson in a nil-nil match last weekend despite having James Chester available on the bench. That can't speak highly of Chester's current standing at the Hawthorns.

Tony Pulis lost a PL game after leading by 2-goals for the first time in his managerial career as the Baggies struggled to contain Romelu Lukaku following the loss of Jonas Olsson to injury.

Olsson came into the Baggies' side for the visit of Everton in the only change from game week six as a calf strain ruled Gareth McAuley out. However the returning defender didn't last too long after limping off with an apparent groin strain during the first half. Saido Berahino and Craig Dawson had opened the scoring for the home side but it was their former striker - Romelu Lukaku - who took all the plaudits with an outstanding second half performance (2-goals and one assist). Post-match Pulis confirmed that West Brom weren’t able to cope with the physicality of Lukaku while the injury to Olsson "was not looking good." McAuley could return for the trip to Selhurst Park but the Swede remains is a major doubt.

Jonas Olsson didn't know much about his match-winning goal at Old Trafford but he was good in defense and scored big for any fantasy managers who picked him up.

Joleon Lescott and Craig Dawson have been solid fantasy assets for much of the season and especially since Tony Pulis arrived but Jonas Olsson showed his value in his return from injury at Old Trafford. It's been since September that Olsson played a competitive match but he certainly returned in style with an (unexpected) match-winning goal, a clean sheet, two blocked shots, three shots on target, and a tackle won. It's going to be hard to follow up that performance but if anyone is going to provide a platform that will allow that to happen, it's Week 36 opponent Newcastle.

West Brom defeated Manchester United 0-1 at Old Trafford through a Jonal Olsson goal.

The return of van Persie wasn't enough for Manchester as they couldn't find the back of the net against West Brom. Jonas Olsson's second half goal secured three very important points for the Baggies as they looked solid throughout the entire match and were able to hold off United late. The Red Devils had a 26-6 shot advantage including a 9-3 shot on target advantage, but they failed to make West Brom pay with some poor finishing and a great performance from goalkeeper Boaz Myhill. The Baggies are now seven points in front of the relegation zone and can relax a bit for the remainder of the season.

Jonas Olsson has been out since September but he is nearing a return after playing multiple reserve matches in recent weeks.

With a new manager installed since Olsson was last healthy, being fit isn't the only barrier to playing time. Once fully fit, the Swedish defender will have to prove himself to Tony Pulis and earn playing time in a team that has been playing well since Pulis' arrival in both the Premier League and the FA Cup. Olsson's return is good news for squad depth but no one should count on him starting matches just yet.

Aston Villa are rumored to be showing interest in Jonas Olsson.

The West Brom defender has been out of favor at his club since Joleon Lescott arrived from Manchester City earlier this season. He is certainly a downgrade from Ron Vlaar, but if Villa lose the Dutch defender to a big club, they will need to find a capable replacement fast. We are not convinced Olsson is what they need.

Jonas Olsson has completed his suspension and will return to action for West Brom this weekend for their relegation showdown at Carrow Road.

With the Baggies hovering 3 points above the relegation zone in 17th place, Pepe Mel will be happy with the news that he will have Jonas Olsson available again and Claudio Yacob, Chris Brunt, and Billy Jones may follow close behind as they return to training this week. The Baggies have a match in hand, three points and a significant goal difference advantage over 18th place Cardiff City but they won't rest easy until there is more distance between them and the drop and the return of some key players over the next 10 days will certainly help.

Defender Jonas Olsson will miss West Brom's home match against Norwich after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season yesterday against Manchester City.

One of Diego Lugano or Craig Dawson will come in to partner Gareth McAuley against a dire Norwich team. If we get any indication of who will start, that player becomes fantasy relevant for at least the weekend.

Jonas Olsson will be available for West Bromwich Albion this weekend despite pulling out of the Sweden squad for personal reasons.

Olsson has been an iron man for the Baggies and will play against Stoke City this weekend. West Brom hope to continue their run of good form against a Stoke side that has lost their last three Premier League matches.
