Jose Enrique has been given a Liverpool lifeline. Jürgen Klopp will hand the Spanish full-back a chance to prove himself in the first team having been frozen out under Brendan Rodgers.
It’s been almost a year since Enrique started a game in the Premier League while the 29-year-old last featured back in January, 2015 in an FA Cup tie versus Bolton at Anfield. Having been ordered to train away from the main group during the summer, Enrique was one of three high profile casualties from the Rodgers regime [along with Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini]. But while his counterparts moved on, the former Newcastle left-back vowed to stay and fight for his place. Following the departure of Rodgers and the loss of left-sided players Joe Gomez and Mamadou Sakho to injury, Klopp has been forced to consider other options and Enrique fits the bill. Once recovered from a hamstring strain, the defender will come back into contention. Wed, Nov 18, 2015 01:42:00 PM

Brendan Rodgers has announced that Jose Enrique will not be available for selection this weekend as Liverpool travel to face Newcastle United.

With just one start in the Reds' first 9 gameweeks, it is safe to say that Enrique is a fantasy ghost these days, Rodgers has shown thus far this season that he will not turn to the Spaniard unless absolutely necessary. Daniel Sturridge and Mamadou Sakho remain out, and peripheral figures Suso and Jon Flanagan round out the unavailable for Liverpool heading into Week 10.

On the back of the Ricardo Rodriguez rumor earlier comes links to two more World Cup left backs - Argentina's Marcos Rojo and Holland's Daley Blind.

What could be better than a Liverpool player with the last name Rojo? In addition to being a very good player the marketing strategy, especially for the Spanish-speaking market, almost writes itself. This isn't to say that Dutch right back Blind wouldn't be a big step up as well. If you're scoring at home (or even if you're by yourself - TM K.Olbermann) that's Alberto Moreno, Ricardo Rodriguez, Marcos Rojo, and Daley Blind linked to Liverpool this week. And it's only Tuesday morning. Stay tuned.

With a deal of Alberto Moreno seemingly stalling, Liverpool are reportedly looking at Swiss international Ricardo Rodriguez as an alternative.

It isn't clear exactly how much cheaper Wolfsburg left back Ricardo Rodriguez would be than the £20m Sevilla are apparently asking for Moreno now but at least Liverpool are showing the Spanish side that they have some options. Quite why Wolfsburg, seemingly big spenders themselves this summer if the Alvaro Morata rumors are true, would sell isn't clear but who are we to question the always-reliable summer transfer rumor mill? Based on Switzerland's first group stage match, Rodriguez would be a good acquisition even if Liverpool would be paying a "successful World Cup player" premium.

Reports out of Spain claim that Liverpool have agreed to terms with Seville on a fee for Alberto Moreno as well as personal terms on a 5-year deal.

With a medical reportedly scheduled for next week to complete the £17.9million transfer Liverpool could be well on their way to finishing their transfer business before the World Cup kicks off. It appears they could end up landing both Moreno and Emre Can next week which would, along with already signed Rickie Lambert, improve their defense, midfield and attack. It is possible that they are still searching for another central defender and Adam Lallana's name is still out there but with Arsenal, City, and Manchester United still on the transfer sidelines Liverpool's campaign to stay in the top four is off to a great start if the Can and Moreno deals are done next week.

Seville have confirmed that Liverpool have indicated an interest in £16m-rated left back Alberto Moreno as a replacement for the less-than-spectacular combination of Jose Enrique and Aly Cissokho.

Exactly when left backs who were left out of their country's World Cup squad got to be this expensive is unclear but Liverpool's interest appears to be real. Finances aside, Liverpool do have a significant hole at left back and the 21-year old Moreno appears to have a bright future in front of him wherever he ends up. I suppose it beats paying an even steeper £25m for Luke Shaw who almost HAS to become the next Gareth Bale to justify that valuation.

Liverpool defender Jose Enrique needs surgery on his knee and will miss a significant amount of time now.

Enrique has been out since early October, but we finally know the extent of his injury. Aly Cissokho will continue at left-back in the Spaniard's now-extended absence.

Liverpool's Jose Enrique will miss this weekend's game against Arsenal due to the knee injury he's been dealing with.

Liverpool will likely start Aly Cissokho, who has only started two league matches so far, in his place. Enrique will be missed in containing Arsenal's attack, which has scored in every Premier League game this season. The injury is considered minor and he should return in about a week.

Jose Enrique missed the reunion with his former club, Newcastle United, due to a long-standing knee injury.

Brendan Rodgers said that Enrique has been suffering with a knee injury all season but has played with it for the good of the team. It seems that Aly Cissokho's return from his own injury allowed Liverpool to rest Enrique. It remains to be seen when Enrique will be available again, or if he'll be selected above the Frenchman.

After a summer-long chase for a new left-back, Liverpool have signed Valencia's and France's Aly Cissokho on a season-long loan.

Cissokho is a good capture who has played in the Champions League for years now. It remains to be seen if he can win the starting left-back role from Jose Enrique, but one would imagine that he would be given every opportunity to do so. The attacking fullback is a staple of a Brendan Rodgers team, and Cissokho could be a nice asset for fantasy managers if he can claim the spot.

Liverpool are reportedly in talks with Granada over left-back Guilherme Siqueira.

The club has been linked with Aly Cissokho and Lorenzo Melgarejo in recent weeks as they look to add competition for Jose Enrique on the left side of the defence.

Liverpool has agreed personal terms with Valencia left-back Aly Cissokho, but still need to reach an agreement with the club.

Clearly Liverpool are focused on strengthening their left-side, having already tried to get Benfica's Lorenzo Melgarejo on loan. While Melgarejo is a prospect, Cissokho is a full French international with Champions League experience. He would expect to be Liverpool's first choice left back over incumbent Jose Enrique.

Liverpool have agreed a one-year loan deal with Benfica for left-back Lorenzo Melgarejo.

22-year-old Paraguayan Melgarejo is a left-wing, converted to left-back. He would provide cover for Jose Enrique and is a good fit for Brendan Rodgers' system which looks for attacking width from the outside backs. If the loan is successful, and it is still pending a work permit, Liverpool have an option to buy the player.
