It's hard to imagine this one happening but Jonathan De Guzman has been linked with a summer move to Manchester United.
The Dutch midfielder has had some strong matches but he was hardly the stand-out player on a mediocre Swansea team over either of his seasons in Wales on loan. The power of Holland's 5-1 dismantling of Spain seems to be at work here. The problem is that De Guzman wasn't particularly effective in that match either and at 27, it isn't as if this would be an "upside" play for the future either. If this move does happen it will be nothing more than a fortification of the United bench with players that new manager Louis van Gaal is familiar with. Jun 16 - 10:18 AM

Michu may have gotten all of the fantasy play this weekend but Jonathan De Guzman and Wayne Routledge scored the goals and Jonjo Shelvey was Swansea's creative force in their 3-0 over Norwich City.

This is the Swansea we expected to see all season. They dominated possession 59% to 41% and scored three goals - two through De Guzman and one through Wayne Routledge to pull ahead of their opponents in the race to stay up. Jonjo Shelvey's health has been less than ideal in recent weeks but he showed that he has put his ailments behind him as he provided an assist and an overall strong match to help secure three points that the Swans desperately needed.

Jonathan scored his second league goal of the season to give Swansea the advantage over Crystal Palace, but could only settle for a draw after a late penalty was converted by the Eagles.

Swansea will be disappointed with this result after dominating possession and sporting an advantage for the majority of the match. 83% possession in the first half tells the story, and the De Guzman goal was a well deserved award. Wilfried Bony held the ball up at the top of the box, then Leon Britton received the ball from Bony and quickly fed it out left to a charging De Guzman who had space to get the shot off and he finished well. The Swans then kept things tidy right up until Chico Flores brought down Glenn Murray. Once down to ten men, it was an exercise in holding on for the draw. Pablo Hernandez unfortunately had to come off early after pulling up lame. Michu still hasn't worked his way back to the bench.

Jonathan De Guzman and Dwight Tiendalli have been ruled out of action for Swansea City's weekend trip to Old Trafford with calf and hamstring issues respectively.

Tiendalli is Swansea's #2 right back behind Angel Rangel so his absence won't be too detrimental to their chances this weekend against Manchester United but De Guzman joins a list of Nathan Dyer, Michu, Pablo Hernandez, and Michel Vorm as regular starters who are on the shelf. Swansea performed admirably on their trip to Old Trafford with a weakened side in the FA Cup, but with the state of health for Laudrup's side right now, it would be difficult to back anyone for fantasy purposes this time around.

After a goalless first half, Swansea City went on a scoring rampage in the 2nd, including three goals in a seven minute stretch, and thrashed Sunderland 4-0.

Incredibly, of the four goals, Michu played a part in none of them. It was Jonathan De Guzman who's star was brightest today, scoring a goal and adding an assist. It was a stunning goal from De Guzman, belted from distance, perfect touch to curl inside the far post. His assist came from delivering a corner that deflected off Phil Bardsley for an own goal. Michu is still the Swansea midfielder you want going forward, but if you want to ride the hot hand in De Guzman, the Swans have another good matchup next week as they are home again to West Ham.

De Guzman has recovered from the concussion that kept him out against Manchester United and hopes to be restored to the starting line-up.

Jonjo Shelvey moved into the starting line-up for Swansea in De Guzman's absence. What happens next with De Guzman healthy again will be very interesting for fantasy managers because Shelvey took a high percentage of the Swans' free kicks and corners against the Red Devils. Playing at White Hart Lane is probably not the time to go in for either player but watching that match to see who will start with both healthy and how kicks are distributed with that line-up will be valuable in advance of Swansea's schedule easing up.

Jonathan De Guzman is out of Swansea's opener with a concussion sustained on international duty.

De Guzman's absence opens up a midfield spot in what appears to be a crowded Swansea midfield. Michu will certainly have one spot at the top and Leon Britton taking another at the base. In-between it seems likely Nathan Dyer, Wayne Routledge and Jonjo Shelvey would start with Pablo Hernandez likely to come in off the bench as he recovers from a groin injury.

Jonathan De Guzman - returning on loan - headlines a group of players confirmed at Swansea City that also includes Jonjo Shelvey, Alejandro Pozuelo, and Jordi Amat.

Outside of De Guzman who played a major part on the pitch last season, Swansea appear to be focusing their early attention on recruiting for future seasons rather than making an impact now. Shelvey, Amat, and Pozuelo are all 21 or younger and both Shelvey and Amat represented their respective countries at multiple youth levels. For a club not overflowing with money, this appears to be a solid strategy of taking calculated risks. They aren't breaking the bank if the players don't work out and they're buying young enough that they could realize significant upside.

Birmingham winger Nathan Redmond is a hot commodity this summer. The 19 year-old winger has a year left on his contract and is seen as being ready to make the leap to the Premier League.

With his contract running out causing his price to dip, there are no shortage of suitors for Nathan Redmond with Fulham, Swansea, Everton, and Norwich all mentioned in various reports. All of those teams could use a young, speedy winger with promise so expect him to sign with Everton and Swansea having the advantage over Fulham and Norwich given stronger squads and more stable positions in the Premier League. Swansea would be a particularly attractive destination, especially if Jonathan De Guzman isn't brought in on a permanent move following his successful loan spell last season.

With his loan term completed Jonathan De Guzman is headed back to promotion hopefuls Villareal to wait on his future. A further loan or a permanent move to the Swans for between 4M and 7M are also possibilities.

De Guzman was an under-reported part of the Swansea attack. After losing Gylfi Sigurdsson, Danny Graham and Scott Sinclair from the 2011-12 squad, de Guzman joined Michu as key cogs in the Swans surprise 9th place finish and League Cup win. If De Guzman isn't back, his 5 goals (tied for 2nd on the team) and 6 assists (tied for 1st) will have to be replaced with a similar creative midfielder.
