The 44-year-old goalkeeper has announced that the 2014-15 season will be his last as a professional.
The former Liverpool, Blackburn, Aston Villa and USMNT goalkeeper has been playing professionally for 23 years. He holds the record for consecutive matches played at 310 and may yet set the record for the oldest Premier League player if he gets a start over Spurs' final two matches. Friedel was a pioneer as American players started earning places at significant European clubs and has had, by far, the longest career of any American who has plied his trade abroad. Friedel will continue in the game as a pundit for Fox Sports in the US, a coach and an ambassador for Spurs in the States. May 14 - 11:03 AM

Goalkeeper Brad Friedel has signed a one-year contract extension with Tottenham and will take on a new ambassadorial role.

He may be 43 years old, but Friedel has no plans to retire and will continue to back-up Spurs number one Hugo Lloris. In addition to his playing role, the keeper will become a Club Ambassador with a particular focus on work in his native United States, including involvement in the club's Global Coaching programme and engaging with Supporters Clubs from across North America.

AVB was criticized for allowing Hugo Lloris back on the pitch against Everton last weekend after a head injury and the Spurs manager has reacted by using Brad Friedel in the two matches since.

Spurs didn't suffer significantly from using their back-up goalkeeper in their mid-week Europa Cup win. The same couldn't be said for the Sunday match with Newcastle. The goal wasn't Friedel's fault by any stretch of the imagination but Spurs will be disappointed in the result.
