The arms race in Turkey is heating up as Fenerbahce match Galatasaray's signing of Lukas Podolski by signing Nani from Manchester United.
Former stars from top European leagues have dotted the Turkish first division in recent seasons from Didier Drogba to Wesley Sneijder to Filipe Melo to Demba Ba. Many have moved on over the past two summers and a new wave appears to be arriving to take their places. Nani wasn't going to regain his place at Old Trafford after a season out on loan and a move to Turkey as he, at 28-years-old, starts toward the downside of his career probably makes sense. The deal is not 100% official yet but it should be shortly as the Turkish club have posted a photo of the player arriving for his medical on their official Instagram account. Nani is said to be close to agreeing a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce. The Portuguese winger expected to travel to Istanbul this week to complete a medical ahead of his $10 million transfer.

Nani played just once for Man Utd last season before signing for Sporting CP on loan for the remainder of the campaign and now looks surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. The 4 year contract is reportedly worth in the region of $90k per week after tax and the arrival of Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha could be the first of a number of players rumoured to be signing. Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina is believed to be on his way although the likelihood of Robin van Persie joining him looks improbable. Fulham flop Kostas Mitroglou is also in talks about a permanent transfer away from Craven Cottage.

After a season out on loan in his native Portugal, Nani is a Manchester United player again but that may not last for long.

Reports in Italy have the United spare part linked with a potential move to Inter Milan. With Angel di Maria still around, Memphis Depay arriving soon and Ashley Young having experienced something of a career renaissance it seems unlikely that Nani would get much playing time if he were to return. After seven goals in 27 matches in a second tier league in Portugal, it seems unlikely that Nani will fetch a significant fee. United will likely be happy just to get his wages off the books.

Multiple reports have confirmed that Argentine international Marcos Rojo is set to join Manchester United on a four-year deal with Nani reportedly going in the other direction on loan.

It was apparent to anyone watching as the Premier League kicked off the new season with Manchester United hosting Swansea that the Red Devils need some better players if they are going to improve on last season's disastrous finish. They made one move in that direction with the acquisition of Marcos Rojo today. Capable of playing the left side of a back three as well as backing up Luke Shaw as a wing back, Rojo will be a useful player and, as the squad is currently set-up, should start with Phil Jones and Johnny Evans. With the same stroke of the pen, the club off-loaded Nani who played at the weekend but has been deemed surplus to requirements.

Portugal XI: Beto; Amorim, Bruno Alves, Pepe, Pereira; Veloso, Carvalho, Moutinho; Nani, Ronaldo, Eder

Pepe returns from his suspension and Eder deservedly gets a start up top for Portugal, who need to win convincingly in order to have a shot at advancing. Luis Nani remains in the XI as expected, coming off of his first goal for club or country this calendar year.

Nani scored in the fifth minute off a horribly miscued backpass, and substitute Varela scored a header at the death to earn Portugal a point against the USA.

The USA came back in the second half on a stunner from Jermaine Jones, and a nice team move finished off by Clint Dempsey. The Yanks looked sure to advance to the knock-out stages when Cristiano Ronaldo fired in a perfect cross from the right that Varela headed home.

Portugal XI: Beto, Bruno Alves, Veloso, Ronaldo, Moutinho, Costa, Meireles, Nani, A. Almeida, Pereira, Postiga

Several necessary changes as Pepe serves a suspension following a red card picked up against Germany while Hugo Almeida and Fabio Coentrao are absent due to injury. All eyes of course will be on CR7.

Conceding a penalty, having a man sent off, and Ronaldo serving as a peripheral figure is not the gameplan Portugal had in mind, and it resulted in a 4-0 thrashing by the Germans.

The less said about Portugal's performance the better, but if you want one play to sum up their afternoon, go back and watch the 52nd minute when Luis Nani knocked his own teammate Fabio Coentrao off the ball in one of their rare promising buildups. The United States will hope Portugal are mentally broken and can capitalize on them while they are down.

Portugal XI: Patricio; Coentrao, Pereira, Pepe, Alves; Moutinho, Meireles, Veloso; Nani, Ronaldo, Almeida

The questions surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo's availability can officially be put to rest. Perhaps if the Portuguese had a lighter fixture, he would not be starting but they need their best man against the mighty Germans. Luis Nani of Manchester United gets an expected start.

Nani will miss "a few weeks" with a hamstring injury, according to manager, David Moyes.

Manchester United will be happy to have gotten Ashley Young back and on the score sheet midweek. Otherwise, Moyes would have to have turned to Adnan Januzaj for an extended period, and he seems unlikely to want to do that with the youngster.

Nani hasn't had a strong season heading into the 2014 World Cup but Portugal beat out Sweden on the strength of a Cristiano Ronaldo hat trick to book their place in Brazil.

After a summer of transfer rumors that didn't happen and limited playing time over the first quarter of the season under David Moyes, Nani could use some good news. He got it yesterday in the form of Portugal beating out Sweden with 4 goals from Cristiano Ronaldo over the two matches to two from Zlatan Ibrahimovic meaning that Portugal will feature in this summer's big tournament in Brazil. The win underscored Portugal's reliance on Ronaldo. An in-form Nani could go a long way to supplementing that but the United midfielder has a long way to go to re-establish himself in the squad and building up his sharpness to provide a foil for Ronaldo. It remains to be seen whether he will get the chance at United or January will see him agitate for a move elsewhere.

Nani, the subject of much transfer speculation all summer, has, according to Juventus Director General Giuseppe Marotta, signed a new deal at Manchester United.

With Nani's contract set to end at the end of the current season United had to either sell or get him signed and if Marotta is to be believed they have chosen the latter. With Ashley Young struggling for fitness and form for most of the last year and Antonio Valencia similarly challenged, this is a good move for the Red Devils. Nani may be frustrating at times but he has proven that at his best he can be a match-winner and United need to keep the match-winners they have and add to them, not sell them.

Wealthy Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala have been linked with a move for want-away Manchester United midfielder Nani.

Nani has been rumored to be leaving all summer and Anzhi fits the bill for the sort of club that would be a fit. The level of competition is a level down so Nani should be among the better players in the league. His Manchester United pedigree brings an air of legitimacy to the Russian club and first division as both continue to move up the European pecking order. Finally, they can afford him. Sounds like a match made in heaven.

Galatasaray's pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Nani has been halted over United's refusal to accept the Turkish club's offer of £6.5million.

£6.5million seems like a low price for a player who, at least until this past season, would have been considered a star in the Premier League. It may be that United will have to take a low offer to get the Portuguese midfielder's wages off their books but with clubs like PSG and Monaco spending money like drunken sailors it is likely too early in the summer to accept such a low offer.

Galatasaray - collectors of expensive former Premier League stars - have apparently decided that enough is enough and decided to end their pursuit of Nani over United's request of more than the £6.5million offered.

Even after Nani's sub-par season, £6.5million seems like a low offer for the United midfielder. With clubs like PSG and Monaco spending money like drunken sailors it would seem that United could get more money for the Portuguese midfielder. Certainly it is too early in the summer for United to take a cut price deal like this one just to have him off the books.
