Bournemouth goalkeeper Adam Federici's loan at Nottingham Forest, which was due to run until January, has been cut short by a knee injury.
Federici, 32, agreed to move to the Championship outfit on transfer deadline day to get game time after falling down the pecking order at Dean Court. However, he injured the same knee which prematurely ended his season last term and will need to go under the knife to fix it. Forest's manager Mark Warburton was complimentary of the way Bournemouth dealt with the setback: "Bournemouth have basically rescinded the loan and taken their player back." "That is a magnificent gesture on their part. The focus is on the health and wellbeing of the player. I would expect nothing less from somebody like Eddie Howe and Bournemouth in general but I want to say how outstanding they have been in dealing with this," he added. Federici will not be fit to play until 2018 though a more detailed prognosis has not yet been given. Mon, Sep 11, 2017 11:29:00 AM

Bournemouth goalkeeper Adam Federici has joined Nottingham Forest on loan until January.

Federici has dropped down the pecking order at the Vitality in the past few seasons, with Asmir Begovic now usurping Artur Boruc in the starting berth. Federici has started just 17 times for the Cherries since he signed in the summer of 2014 after a decade at Reading but has not featured this term.

Bournemouth second-choice 'keeper Adam Federici will miss the rest of the season after damaging cartilage in his right knee.

Federici has undergone surgery after picking up the injury in training. Federici last lined out for the club in the FA Cop loss to Millwall. He played twice in the league this season. Ryan Allsop will now be Artur Boruc's replacement if required for any reason, with young signing Aaron Ramsdale in hot pursuit of his place on the bench.

Adam Federici has agreed to a new three-year contract with AFC Bournemouth that will see the goalkeeper stay with the club until the summer of 2019.

Federici joined the Cherries last summer on a free transfer after his career with Reading FC came to a close. He is the #2 man between the sticks behind veteran Artur Boruc, making just six starts in league play last season and twelve appearances across all competitions. Boruc is 36 years old, which isn't too alarming for a goalkeeper but Eddie Howe now has a solid second choice for the next few seasons should Boruc miss time through injury or his skills begin to diminish.

Eddie Howe is facing a goalkeeping crisis after the Cherries’ boss admitted Adam Federici "was in a bad way, he's going to be out for the foreseeable future."

Federici landed awkwardly during the first half of Saturdays’ game against Everton - twisting his ankle - and although the goalkeeper was able to continue until the break, the Aussie was was forced off at half-time as Ryan Allsop came on for his Premier League debut. Federici was later pictured in the dugout on crutches wearing a protective cast and post-match Howe revealed "Adam does not look good, it looks like he has twisted his ankle to point where it has blown up, it is really swollen so he was no good at half-time." Federici has been deputising for Artur Boruc and it now looks like the 35-year-old is also set for an extended period out. The Poland international will see a knee specialist this week and his short-term availability "does not look good."

Eddie Howe turned to Adam Federici to mind the goal for Bournemouth today, but it made little difference in the outcome as they fell to Southampton, 2-0.

Both of the Saints goals today came from excellent crosses that set the scorers up perfectly to where there was little Federici could do. Considering the defensive calamities the Cherries had shown in the last couple of matches, giving up only two today could be seen as somewhat of a positive, but the fact is they are in real danger with so many key figures missing long term. From a fantasy perspective, it is a veritable wasteland right now, even for the likes of Matt Ritchie

Former Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici has signed with AFC Bournemouth on a free transfer.

Federici had his contract expire at the end of the 2014/2015 season and Reading had no interest in striking a new deal. Federici had spent the previous ten years under Reading's control, with loan spells to several other clubs peppered in along the way. Unless something strange is afoot, he should arrive at Dean Court with his role already known - a backup to Artur Boruc, who the Cherries brought in from Southampton just a few days ago.
