John Obi Mikel has moved to Chinese side Tianjin TEDA after spending 10-and-a-half years with Chelsea in which he won every major club honor.
Mikel made 372 appearances for Chelsea, where he won 11 trophies, including two Premier League titles and the 2012 Champions League. However, the former Nigerian international had not been included in a single matchday squad since Antonio Conte took over this summer. Mikel, who contract was also due to experience in the summer, announced that he would be moving to China on Twitter this Friday. Mikel wrote: "I feel now is the time to seek a new challenge. I'm delighted to be joining Tianjin TEDA FC in China, at a time that the Chinese Super League is really taking off, and I look forward to helping Tianjin TEDA FC continue to grow both on and off the pitch in the next few years." In spite of rumors this summer linking him with a summer exit, Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel confirmed his plans to stay at the club.

Said the 29-year-old: "I am definitely staying at Chelsea and I will try to give my best to the club, like I have always done. I want to help the team fight for every point, every win and to win trophies. I also want to help the team qualify for the Champions League again as soon as possible." Obi Mikel looked to be on his way out after the arrival of Antonio Conte, with Besiktas, Fenerbahce and unnamed Chinese clubs reportedly interested. Yet despite a bit-part role, the Nigerian said he is planning to earn a new contract at the club as he enters the final year of his contract.

John Obi Mikel has expressed his desire to remain at Chelsea despite some rumors that claim he may be leaving.

There have been rumors about Mikel leaving all summer long but the midfielder stated earlier today that he "wants to stay and the managers wants [him] to stay". Mikel has two years left on his contract and is excited about finishing it off in London. There is still a possibility that Chelsea will decide to sell the player but regardless of where he ends up, he will not be a fantasy option next season. Mikel is a defensive specialist who doesn't score or assist on many goals, especially when coming off the bench.

Fenerbahce are reportedly interested in Chelsea's John Obi Mikel.

The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order with Jose Mourinho after the arrival of Nemanja Matic, who is at least twice as good as Mikel in almost every aspect of the game. Mikel was still used sporadically, especially as a late game substitute, but Chelsea will likely try to upgrade the position to have a more reliable backup in that role. Whether or not he stays at Chelsea, Mikel will not be a fantasy option next season.

John Obi Mikel is set to miss GW31 with a knee injury despite returning to training.

Mikel has been injured for over a month now and despite returning to training, he is not fit enough to be included in the squad for this weekend's match. Jose Mourinho said the midfielder was "tired, very tired", and he'll miss out completely. He'll have a chance to return next weekend, but will not be expected to start as long as Nemanja Matic is healthy.

John Obi Mikel will miss at least two more weeks with a knee injury.

Mikel missed Chelsea's match last weekend and their midweek clash in the Champions League. It seems the knee injury is really bothering him and he'll be out of action for at least two more weeks. Cesc Fabregas started in the Champions League in Wednesday and is clearly over his injury, so he's likely to start again. Ramires could also draw another start, but we anticipate it will be Oscar or Cuadrado who take his spot this week.

John Obi Mikel failed to recover from injury in time to face Group H minnows Maribor on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League.

The Nigerian midfielder has struggled this season and is yet to start a Premier League game after suffering consecutive injuries [foot and knee] with his availability in week eleven a doubt. Mikel joins Loic Remy [groin] in the treatment room – who should return after the international break. Cesar Azpilicueta is available again after completing his domestic ban with Felipe Luis expected to make way. Thibaut Courtois and Gary Cahill were benched ahead of the Liverpool game but after falling behind in Slovenia Jose Mourinho was unable to rest any of his other first team stars – Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Ivanovic all played 90 minutes while Diego Costa was introduced at half-time.

Jose Mourinho will welcome Slovenian Champions Maribor to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night as Chelsea aim for another win in round three of the UEFA Champions League.

However despite their lowly ranking Mourinho will not be taking the game lightly as the minnows of Eastern Europe are currently unbeaten having already taken points from Sporting CP and Schalke 04. A victory would see Chelsea retain top spot and control Group G but the Portuguese coach must contend with a number of key injuries while considering their crucial tie at Old Trafford on Sunday. Diego Costa [hamstring] is currently rated as a big doubt while Andre Schurrle and Ramires did not train on Monday - neither will be considered for tomorrow. John Obi Mikel [foot] has also been ruled out after picking up an injury playing for Nigeria, despite making the bench at Selhurst Park he was not fit enough to train today.

John Obi Mikel returned to Chelsea's squad after missing time with injuries and looked healthy in their Champions League match in midweek.

Obi Mikel looked healthy but got booked in the match and will miss the second leg through suspension. That means that Mikel is likely to feature in Chelsea's match against Liverpool this weekend. Despite the likelihood of playing, Mikel is not a great fantasy choice. There are no instances in which Obi Mikel would be considered a good fantasy pick.

John Obi Mikel has been ruled out for Chelsea's match against Stoke City this weekend.

With Ramires still suspended and Frank Lampard possibly getting rest ahead of an important Champions League clash, we may have to see David Luiz in midfield once again. It's unknown how serious Mikel's injury is, but he has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea and is not an option for fantasy owners.

John Obi Mikel scored Chelsea's first goal in their 2-0 win over Derby in the FA Cup.

Chelsea played a strong squad on their way to a comfortable away win and they didn't miss a beat without Frank Lampard and Branislav Ivanovic. John Obi Mikel will be the usual replacement for Lampard for the rest of the month and he can be used as a fantasy reserve because of his cheap price. Oscar added the other Chelsea goal and he remains a valuable fantasy asset going forward.

Jose Mourinho has shuffled his starting lineup for the important Champions League clash against Schalke after losing to Newcastle over the weekend.

Chelsea XI: Cech; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Ramires, Mikel; Schurrle, Oscar,Willian; Eto'o. Notable players who are missing from the starting lineup at Frank Lampard, Juan Mata, and Eden Hazard. The benching of Hazard and Mata should give them some motivation going forward. Fernando Torres is out with an injury and Frank Lampard is likely just given rest due to age.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is not a big fan of John Obi Mikel and is targeting Luiz Gustavo from Bayern Munich.

Gustavo is a solid holding midfielder who can be a great fit at Chelsea. He is certainly better than Mikel and if Chelsea can land him for the £15m they plan on offering, it would be a good addition. He would be a starter and could be a good, cheap, fantasy option.

Galatasaray are continuing to negotiate for Chelsea defensive midfielder John Obi Mikel.

Mikel is a player who has been talked about in the summer market and considering Mourinho's love for Michael Essien, it wouldn't be surprising to see him go. The price is still around £16m for the Nigerian international, which should be enough to sign Mikel.

Galatasaray are confident in their bid for Chelsea defensive midfielder John Obi Mikel.

The bid is in the vicinity of £16m and Chelsea could probably use that money to grab a better defensive midfielder. John Obi Mikel is solid, but probably not good enough to take Chelsea to the top of Europe. Expect Mourinho to be on the lookout for a new defensive midfielder. Essien could also play the position if healthy.
