Arsenal's defensive injury issues continue as Nacho Monreal will miss out on the Week 15 match with Stoke City due to an ankle injury.
In addition to Monreal being out, Arsenal face at least slight doubts on Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs. Both of the latter are likely to play but if either picks up an injury during what is sure to be a physical match with Stoke City there isn't much cover behind them. Dec 5 - 12:14 PM

Just when it seemed Arsenals’ treatment room was beginning to clear a spate of recent injuries has ruled up to eleven players out of Wednesdays’ crucial game against Southampton at the Emirates.

Having welcomed Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny, Theo Walcott and Yaya Sanogo back in recent weeks Arsene Wenger was optimistic of having a healthy squad heading into the festive period. However within just 7 days - three games - the Gunners have suffered eight separate injuries including a significant ankle ligament tear for Jack Wilshere [three months] and a fifth injury of this campaign for Mikel Arteta – his fourth muscular problem. It is envisaged that this latest run of bad luck – misfortune – mismanagement will be enough to force Arsenal back into transfer market during the January window in an attempt maintain any hopes of success [albeit small] within the Premier and Champions League competition. During Saturdays' win at the Hawthorns Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Nacho Monreal all suffered injuries which are being assessed.

Nacho Monreal isn't an obvious candidate to play center back but he continued his effective play deputizing for Laurent Koscielny in the center of the Arsenal defense.

With the French center back likely out until after the international break, Arsenal supporters will take heart from the two consecutive clean sheets that the combination of Per Mertesacker and Nacho Monreal have delivered. With a tougher test looming in Wales this coming weekend the odd pairing will be challenged to make it three in a row but the two consecutive clean sheet wins will give Wenger confidence that they can hold the fort until Koscielny returns.

Nacho Monreal deputized out of position at center back for the injured Laurent Koscielny and did well.

It isn't clear where Monreal will play in Week 10 against Burnley given that Kieran Gibbs limped off during the Sunderland match. Regardless, he seems poised to do well coming off of a blocked shot, five interceptions, a tackle won and a successful cross against the Black Cats. Monreal is as close to a guaranteed starter as he'll ever be at Arsenal and Burnley are struggling mightily to score goals so the ingredients are all there for a successful Week 10.

Spanish international Nacho Monreal is likely to plug the center back gap caused by Laurent Koscielny's Achilles injury.

Hull City haven't had too many problems scoring goals so Monreal may not be an ideal option in formats that are heavily weighted toward clean sheets or the number of goals conceded for defenders. He is also unlikely to produce much in the way of attacking statistics given his central posting. He should be considered no better than an emergency starter and even then only in deep leagues that feature unique ownership formats.

Nacho Monreal has missed Arsenal's last couple matches with a back injury and will face a late fitness check on Sunday.

Kieran Gibbs has been playing well and has been healthy for a few weeks in a row which means he is highly likely to start against Chelsea regardless of Monreal's health. That said, Gibbs could get injured at any moment and Arsene Wenger will be happy to have his deputy at left back and (presumably) center back healthy again. Whether it is for Sunday or after the international break, expect Monreal to be a fixture on the bench until the next Arsenal defensive injury.

Nacho Monreal became the latest Arsenal defender to be sidelined after the player suffered a minor back injury during Saturday’s home draw with Manchester City. The Spanish full-back did not travel with the rest of the squad to Germany where the Gunner’s face Borussia Dortmond in their opening Champions League game on Tuesday.

Monreal joins an ever growing list of Arsenal casualties which includes the unfortunate Mathieu Debuchy (ankle) - who is set to miss around three months - Yaya Sanogo (hamstring) as well as long-term absentees Theo Walcott, Oliver Giroud and Serge Gnabry. Calum Chambers will also face a late fitness test following a bout of tonsillitis while Laurent Koscielny is battling an ongoing Achilles issue. After the summer departure of Thomas Vermaelen Arsenal are a little short of cover in defence with Kieron Gibbs, Per Mertesacker and youngster Hector Bellerin being the only fully fit first team options available.

Nacho Monreal deputized for Kieran Gibbs against Everton in Week 2 and provided one of the few exceptional fantasy performances for the Gunners with 10 points in the Yahoo game and 6 in PL.com.

With relatively few Arsenal players cracking double digits in the Yahoo game, Giroud and Ramsey being the other two, Monreal's performance is worth noting. It is always worth evaluating Arsenal's reserve left back because Kieran Gibbs is injured so frequently. Monreal's performance was strong mostly due to his assist on Olivier Giroud's goal so unless you think Monreal is going to become an assist machine, this probably isn't a performance likely to be replicated.

Nacho Monreal missed last weekend's draw with Manchester City but will return to the squad for Week 33 at Goodison Park.

Arsenal are slowly returning to health with Monreal and Ramsey back this week and Mesut Ozil on track to return after Arsenal's FA Cup match April 12th. With Keiran Gibbs healthy, Monreal will likely be a reserve against Everton this weekend but with Gibbs' health never 100% certain Arsenal will be happy to have the Spanish left back as cover. Monreal's return is even more important given that Laurent Koscielny will likely be out another week and Arsenal's defending depth would have been sorely tested with one more injury/suspension.

Nacho Monreal will miss Arsenal's Week 32 match with Manchester City but should return to training and be available by Match Week 33 against Everton.

Nacho Monreal continues to have struggle with injury in 2014 and it will cause him to miss this week's match with Manchester City. The current assessment is that he will overcome the injury in time to train for the Match Week 33 match at Goodison Park. With Keiran Gibbs' red card having been rescinded, Arsenal will start Gibbs at left back for the City match and then have their choice of the two for the Everton match which is looming as more and more critical as Arsenal continue to drop points.

Both of Arsenal's specialist left backs - Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs - are listed as doubts headed into the club's Week 28 trip to Stoke.

If neither left back can go on Saturday then Thomas Vermaelen and Bacary Sagna are the likely deputies in that order of preference. It appears that Laurent Koscielny will be available to man his center back spot again after coming out early last weekend so Arsene Wenger will hope to start Sagna on the right and one of Monreal, Gibbs or Vermaelen on the left. Given the uncertainty, it seems wise to leave all three out of your fantasy line-up.

Arsenal fullback Nacho Monreal left the match against Aston Villa with a foot injury. He suffered ligament damage, but despite early fears, he did not break any metatarsal bones.

Monreal is "a big doubt" for Arsenal this weekend, and would likely have lost his starting spot to the returning Kieran Gibbs anyway.
