Nacho Monreal has failed to shake off a niggling back problem and will not feature against AC Milan.
It was hoped that the defender would be ready for the Europa League tie, but Wenger confirmed Arsenal will be without four key members of his squad on Thursday night. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ineligible for the Round 16 first leg fixture while Alexandre Lacazette is still recovering from minor knee surgery. Monreal has just begun light work on the training pitches and "he is not ready" while Sunday may also come too soon. And Wenger was dealt a further blow when Hector Bellerin was ruled out of the clash due to injury. "He has an inflammation of his left knee, without ligament damage. He had a scan yesterday, which was quite good. He tried [to train] but he needs some further investigation. He was in hospital to know why he is in so much pain. It doesn’t look a long-term problem [but] we had to leave him behind." Mar 8 - 4:41 AM

Nacho Monreal will miss the next two games, while Arsène Wenger revealed the defender could be sidelined for the Europa League first-leg tie with AC Milan.

Arsenal conclude game week twenty-eight when they face Manchester City on Thursday, and speaking ahead of the game, the Arsenal boss confirmed Monreal will not be in contention. "He is out for the two games on Thursday and Sunday," he said. "He might be out for two more, Milan and maybe even one more. He had an inflamed back, a disc problem." Monreal joins long-term absentee Santi Cazorla in the treatment room while Alexandre Lacazette is also missing after undergoing minor knee surgery earlier this month. His absence is likely to mean Sead Kolasinac is recalled having fallen from favour recently. The summer signing from Schalke 04 arrived on the scene with a bang, but following a slight change in formation, the marauding tank of a left-back is yet to start in the league this year.

Nacho Monreal was at it again opening the scoring for Arsenal as they cruised to a 3-0 victory at Ostersund.

It was a business-like effort from Arsenal who weren't spectacular but were efficient as they dispatched Ostersund 3-0 in the away leg of their round of 32 tie. Nacho Monreal was notable as he continued his recent torrid scoring pace. Henrikh Mkhitaryan instigated an own goal for the second and turn provider as Mesut Ozil scored the third. There was a concerning blip late as Bellerin gave up a penalty in added time but Ospina saved to keep the clean sheet.

Nacho Monreal has been on fire but was withdrawn early against Everton due to an illness but he should be sufficiently recovered to feature against Spurs on Saturday.

Monreal has been a surprise attacking threat since being restored to the left back spot in Arsene Wenger's revived 4-man defense. It seems unlikely that he'll continue his goal-scoring exploits against Spurs on Saturday but his availability whether as part of a three-man central grouping or as the left back in a four-man set-up is critical. Arsenal have been excellent when Monreal, Koscielny, Mustafi, and Bellerin have all been available and that should be the case on Saturday whether Sead Kolasinac joins them in the starting eleven or not.

Nacho Monreal scored and provided two assists inside of 13 minutes as Arsenal battered Crystal Palace 4-1.

It was a route from the outset as Arsenal scored all four of their goals inside of 22 minutes as Monreal, Iwobi, Koscielny, and Lacazette all helped the Gunners start to move on from their soon to be former talisman Alexis Sanchez. The only downside was Nacho Monreal going off in the first half after laying waste to Palace for just over 30 minutes.

Nacho Monreal has returned to the Arsenal squad from the ankle injury that kept him out since late December.

Monreal's ascension as a first choice center back has certainly been one of the surprises of the past year-plus of the Premier League. Despite the unexpected nature of the switch, Monreal has been an important cog in Arsenal's move to a 3-man center back formation allowing more freedom to the wing backs and relying less on Granit Xhaka to be a defensive stalwart. Monreal's return should aid the Gunners as they look to rebound from a difficult start to 2018.

A trio of Gunners - Nacho Monreal, Olivier Giroud, and Aaron Ramsey - will miss out on Arsenal's trip to the Hawthorns on New Years Eve to face West Brom as they continue to recover from injuries.

The trio of players are all suffering from relatively minor injuries that just happen to come at a bad time of the season causing them to miss more matches than would ordinarily be expected of such injuries. It seems unlikely that any of the three will return before the early January break from Premier League action to accommodate the latter stages of the League Cup and the early stages of the FA Cup. Expect all three to be back and available when the Premier League restarts for the Gunners on January 14th at Bournemouth.

Nacho Monreal will miss Thursday’s encounter with Crystal Palace but thankfully the Arsenal defender should be back in early January.

The 31-year-old was forced off at half-time during the 3-3 draw against Liverpool, but subsequent tests confirm the ankle injury he sustained is only minor. "Nacho Monreal is out of course because he got injured," revealed Arsène Wenger prior to his sides trip to Selhurst Park. It’s hoped that Monreal can return in around 10 days with the game at Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on January 07 pencilled in for his comeback. His absence is likely to earn Shkodran Mustafi a recall following the German’s recovery from a thigh strain, while his inclusion may also prompt a slight change in formation from a flat back four to a 3-4-2-1. That could mean a return for Sead Kolasinac, frozen out in recent weeks, with Wenger preferring youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles due to his pace, particularly when looking to counteract the attacking threat of Mo Salah last time out.

Nacho Monreal set out to remind Arsene Wenger of his quality with two assists in the Gunners' 3-1 win over Western Sydney.

The assumption after Arsene Wenger brought in Sead Kolasinac was that Nacho Monreal would be relegated to the bench. Monreal did his best on Saturday to fight for his spot. He set up Arsenal's first two goals. The first saw the Spaniard drive to the touch line and center for Olivier Giroud who converted smoothly. His second was a lofted ball that Aaron Ramsey chipped nicely over the keeper. Mo Elneny scored the third on a deflection.

Arsenal have officially announced the long-rumored signing of Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer from Schalke.

The long-anticipated move means something of a shake-up at the left back position for the Gunners. Kolasinac will be the presumed starter bringing significant Bundesliga experience in a young, 23-year-old, package. The move will likely mean that Nacho Monreal will become the deputy at both the left wing-back position as well as an emergency starter at center back presuming Arsenal stays with the 3-4-3 formation that they ended the season employing successfully. The Gunners are likely to part company with Kieran Gibbs over the summer as well as the long-time Gunner looks to nail down a guaranteed first team spot a little farther down the table.

Arsenal left it late but Nacho Monreal bounced a shot off of Robert Huth and past Peter Schmeichel as the Gunners beat Leicester City 1-0 at the Emirates.

Arsenal dominated possession for nearly the entire match but had precious little to show for it heading toward the end of the match. For all of their passing around the outside of the box they had trouble generating anything resembling a solid opportunity on goal. It looked for all the world like the match was going to end nil-nil and effectively end Arsenal's quest for a Champions League spot until Nacho Monreal took a rebound out of the air and got a fortunate bounce off of Huth that was ruled an own goal for the win.

Nacho Monreal is back in the Arsenal starting line-up for their FA Cup match against Sutton United.

Monreal, who seems to have lost his starting spot to Kieran Gibbs but he returns along with a number of other reserves for Arsenal's trip to Sutton. The Gunners will start Ospina, Gabriel, Mustafi, Holding, Monreal, Xhaka, Elneny, Walcott, Iwobi, Reine-Adelaide and Lucas.

Arsenal may be missing as many as three fullbacks for the visit of North London rivals Spurs on Sunday.

Nacho Monreal, Hector Bellerin and Kieran Gibbs have all been deemed questionable ahead of Sunday's North London Derby. None of the injuries sounds particularly serious but doesn't mean that the Gunners wouldn't be at a short term disadvantage if they were forced to go with Carl Jenkinson on the right and Frances Coquelin or Rob Holding on the left. Spurs may not be in the greatest form but it would be hard to like Arsenal's chances with their fourth and fifth choice outside backs starting.

Arsene Wenger revealed Nacho Monreal missed the north London derby due to a minor calf strain.

The Spanish full-back was a surprise omission from the starting XI on Saturday as Kieran Gibbs came in for only his third league start of the campaign and first of 2016. Post-match Wenger confirmed Monreal was carrying an injury and he was rested as a precaution: "We have some knocks like Nacho who is not 100% so you try to freshen up. He has a slight calf problem." Gibbs is likely to start successive games as Arsenal travel to Hull in the FA Cup on Tuesday night. However, the 30-year-old should be back in training by Thursday. The Gunners will also be without Laurent Koscielny for the fifth round replay: "He has a chance to be available for the weekend, but I think even for then he will be short." Meanwhile, David Ospina is expected to be the first choice goalkeeper for the next month: "Petr’s scans were better than expected, but it will still be four weeks for him."

Arsenal couldn't contain substitute Bafetimbi Gomis for the second time this season as Swansea stole a win from Wenger's men at the Emirates on Monday.

Arsenal controlled possession for nearly the entire match as Swansea followed Chelsea's script from their Manchester United win to a tee. Arsenal had nearly all of the possession and were seemingly shooting on target for the entire second half but they couldn't pierce former netminder Lukasz Fabianski. Nacho Monreal was found wanting as he couldn't body up Bafetimbi Gomis on a Jefferson Montero cross and Gomis' header went just over the line. The loss puts Manchester City in the drivers' seat for second place despite Arsenal holding a match in hand.
