A trio of Gunners - Nacho Monreal, Olivier Giroud, and Aaron Ramsey - will miss out on Arsenal's trip to the Hawthorns on New Years Eve to face West Brom as they continue to recover from injuries.
The trio of players are all suffering from relatively minor injuries that just happen to come at a bad time of the season causing them to miss more matches than would ordinarily be expected of such injuries. It seems unlikely that any of the three will return before the early January break from Premier League action to accommodate the latter stages of the League Cup and the early stages of the FA Cup. Expect all three to be back and available when the Premier League restarts for the Gunners on January 14th at Bournemouth. Fri, Dec 29, 2017 01:47:00 PM

Nacho Monreal will miss Thursday’s encounter with Crystal Palace but thankfully the Arsenal defender should be back in early January.

The 31-year-old was forced off at half-time during the 3-3 draw against Liverpool, but subsequent tests confirm the ankle injury he sustained is only minor. "Nacho Monreal is out of course because he got injured," revealed Arsène Wenger prior to his sides trip to Selhurst Park. It’s hoped that Monreal can return in around 10 days with the game at Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on January 07 pencilled in for his comeback. His absence is likely to earn Shkodran Mustafi a recall following the German’s recovery from a thigh strain, while his inclusion may also prompt a slight change in formation from a flat back four to a 3-4-2-1. That could mean a return for Sead Kolasinac, frozen out in recent weeks, with Wenger preferring youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles due to his pace, particularly when looking to counteract the attacking threat of Mo Salah last time out.

Nacho Monreal set out to remind Arsene Wenger of his quality with two assists in the Gunners' 3-1 win over Western Sydney.

The assumption after Arsene Wenger brought in Sead Kolasinac was that Nacho Monreal would be relegated to the bench. Monreal did his best on Saturday to fight for his spot. He set up Arsenal's first two goals. The first saw the Spaniard drive to the touch line and center for Olivier Giroud who converted smoothly. His second was a lofted ball that Aaron Ramsey chipped nicely over the keeper. Mo Elneny scored the third on a deflection.

Arsenal have officially announced the long-rumored signing of Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer from Schalke.

The long-anticipated move means something of a shake-up at the left back position for the Gunners. Kolasinac will be the presumed starter bringing significant Bundesliga experience in a young, 23-year-old, package. The move will likely mean that Nacho Monreal will become the deputy at both the left wing-back position as well as an emergency starter at center back presuming Arsenal stays with the 3-4-3 formation that they ended the season employing successfully. The Gunners are likely to part company with Kieran Gibbs over the summer as well as the long-time Gunner looks to nail down a guaranteed first team spot a little farther down the table.

Arsenal left it late but Nacho Monreal bounced a shot off of Robert Huth and past Peter Schmeichel as the Gunners beat Leicester City 1-0 at the Emirates.

Arsenal dominated possession for nearly the entire match but had precious little to show for it heading toward the end of the match. For all of their passing around the outside of the box they had trouble generating anything resembling a solid opportunity on goal. It looked for all the world like the match was going to end nil-nil and effectively end Arsenal's quest for a Champions League spot until Nacho Monreal took a rebound out of the air and got a fortunate bounce off of Huth that was ruled an own goal for the win.

Nacho Monreal is back in the Arsenal starting line-up for their FA Cup match against Sutton United.

Monreal, who seems to have lost his starting spot to Kieran Gibbs but he returns along with a number of other reserves for Arsenal's trip to Sutton. The Gunners will start Ospina, Gabriel, Mustafi, Holding, Monreal, Xhaka, Elneny, Walcott, Iwobi, Reine-Adelaide and Lucas.

Arsenal may be missing as many as three fullbacks for the visit of North London rivals Spurs on Sunday.

Nacho Monreal, Hector Bellerin and Kieran Gibbs have all been deemed questionable ahead of Sunday's North London Derby. None of the injuries sounds particularly serious but doesn't mean that the Gunners wouldn't be at a short term disadvantage if they were forced to go with Carl Jenkinson on the right and Frances Coquelin or Rob Holding on the left. Spurs may not be in the greatest form but it would be hard to like Arsenal's chances with their fourth and fifth choice outside backs starting.

Arsene Wenger revealed Nacho Monreal missed the north London derby due to a minor calf strain.

The Spanish full-back was a surprise omission from the starting XI on Saturday as Kieran Gibbs came in for only his third league start of the campaign and first of 2016. Post-match Wenger confirmed Monreal was carrying an injury and he was rested as a precaution: "We have some knocks like Nacho who is not 100% so you try to freshen up. He has a slight calf problem." Gibbs is likely to start successive games as Arsenal travel to Hull in the FA Cup on Tuesday night. However, the 30-year-old should be back in training by Thursday. The Gunners will also be without Laurent Koscielny for the fifth round replay: "He has a chance to be available for the weekend, but I think even for then he will be short." Meanwhile, David Ospina is expected to be the first choice goalkeeper for the next month: "Petr’s scans were better than expected, but it will still be four weeks for him."

Arsenal couldn't contain substitute Bafetimbi Gomis for the second time this season as Swansea stole a win from Wenger's men at the Emirates on Monday.

Arsenal controlled possession for nearly the entire match as Swansea followed Chelsea's script from their Manchester United win to a tee. Arsenal had nearly all of the possession and were seemingly shooting on target for the entire second half but they couldn't pierce former netminder Lukasz Fabianski. Nacho Monreal was found wanting as he couldn't body up Bafetimbi Gomis on a Jefferson Montero cross and Gomis' header went just over the line. The loss puts Manchester City in the drivers' seat for second place despite Arsenal holding a match in hand.

Nacho Monreal has been good for Arsene Wenger and fantasy managers over Arsenal's past two matches but that run may come to an end with Kieran Gibbs healthy again.

Nacho Monreal has posted two consecutive double digit fantasy performances (14 and 21 points in the Yahoo format) but his run may be coming to an end with Kieran Gibbs healthy again. Gibbs was technically healthy for the win over Manchester City but Wenger chose not to throw him back in the deep end of the pool against the defending champions. With two additional weeks to recover and an FA Cup match to use as a tune-up, Gibbs is likely to return to the starting line-up for Week 24.

Arsenal's defensive injury issues continue as Nacho Monreal will miss out on the Week 15 match with Stoke City due to an ankle injury.

In addition to Monreal being out, Arsenal face at least slight doubts on Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs. Both of the latter are likely to play but if either picks up an injury during what is sure to be a physical match with Stoke City there isn't much cover behind them.

Just when it seemed Arsenals’ treatment room was beginning to clear a spate of recent injuries has ruled up to eleven players out of Wednesdays’ crucial game against Southampton at the Emirates.

Having welcomed Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny, Theo Walcott and Yaya Sanogo back in recent weeks Arsene Wenger was optimistic of having a healthy squad heading into the festive period. However within just 7 days - three games - the Gunners have suffered eight separate injuries including a significant ankle ligament tear for Jack Wilshere [three months] and a fifth injury of this campaign for Mikel Arteta – his fourth muscular problem. It is envisaged that this latest run of bad luck – misfortune – mismanagement will be enough to force Arsenal back into transfer market during the January window in an attempt maintain any hopes of success [albeit small] within the Premier and Champions League competition. During Saturdays' win at the Hawthorns Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Nacho Monreal all suffered injuries which are being assessed.

Nacho Monreal isn't an obvious candidate to play center back but he continued his effective play deputizing for Laurent Koscielny in the center of the Arsenal defense.

With the French center back likely out until after the international break, Arsenal supporters will take heart from the two consecutive clean sheets that the combination of Per Mertesacker and Nacho Monreal have delivered. With a tougher test looming in Wales this coming weekend the odd pairing will be challenged to make it three in a row but the two consecutive clean sheet wins will give Wenger confidence that they can hold the fort until Koscielny returns.

Nacho Monreal deputized out of position at center back for the injured Laurent Koscielny and did well.

It isn't clear where Monreal will play in Week 10 against Burnley given that Kieran Gibbs limped off during the Sunderland match. Regardless, he seems poised to do well coming off of a blocked shot, five interceptions, a tackle won and a successful cross against the Black Cats. Monreal is as close to a guaranteed starter as he'll ever be at Arsenal and Burnley are struggling mightily to score goals so the ingredients are all there for a successful Week 10.

Spanish international Nacho Monreal is likely to plug the center back gap caused by Laurent Koscielny's Achilles injury.

Hull City haven't had too many problems scoring goals so Monreal may not be an ideal option in formats that are heavily weighted toward clean sheets or the number of goals conceded for defenders. He is also unlikely to produce much in the way of attacking statistics given his central posting. He should be considered no better than an emergency starter and even then only in deep leagues that feature unique ownership formats.
