Serie A club Roma have signed former Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole on a two-year deal.
Ashley Cole's contract with Chelsea expired this summer and the left-back will not be returning after losing his starting job to Cesar Azpilicueta last year. The 33 year old has decided to join Italian club AC Roma on a free transfer. Cole should have enough left in the tank to be the starting left-back at Roma and could be a big piece of that team. He provides speed down the flank and enough experience to compete at any level. Jul 7 - 1:48 PM

Jose Mourinho will speak to Ashley Cole in an attempt to keep the defender at Chelsea for one more year.

Ashley Cole suffered an injury that led to him losing his starting spot to Cesar Azpilicueta last season. He tweeted out after the season ended saying it's unlikely he'll return to Chelsea but Mourinho will speak to him to see if both parties can agree on something. Despite the news, we don't see Cole returning to Chelsea.

Ashley Cole says he does not think he will be at Chelsea next season and is seeking "another journey in my life" after eight years at Stamford Bridge.

Cole has been one of the all time great left-backs, but he struggled to hold down a place at Chelsea last season, falling behind Cesar Apzpilicueta, and his lack of football cost him a place in England's World Cup squad. The 33-year-old's contract runs out next month and he is not expecting get the chance of staying at Stamford Bridge. "I am weighing up my options for playing next season with my agent," Cole wrote on Twitter. "Sadly, it does not look like Chelsea will be one of them." If the ex-international does leave on a free transfer there will be no shortage of suitors, with a host of Europe's top clubs expected to be interested in a short term deal.

Ashley Cole has retired from international football after not being selected for England's World Cup squad.

England manager Roy Hodgson stated one of the hardest decisions he had to make was not including Cole in the World Cup squad. He has instead gone with Everton's Leighton Baines and Southampton's Luke Shaw. Cole retires after 13 years and 107 appearances, an absolutely fantastic achievement for any player. Cole has also been replaced as Chelsea's main left-back. After suffering an injury in mid-season, Cole has gotten acquainted with the bench. Youngster Cesar Azpilicueta has proven to be a great choice and will likely continue to be Chelsea's number one left-back next season. Cole will have a choice to make this summer - he can stay at Chelsea and be a back-up or go to another team and fight for a first team spot. His fantasy value next year will be strongly dependent on where he ends up.

Ashley Cole will return to Chelsea's squad for the home match against Stoke City this weekend.

Cole has been surpassed by Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back and will likely be on the bench for the foreseeable future. If Azpilicueta misses any time through injury, Cole can be a great option for fantasy managers due to Chelsea's great defensive record.

Ashley Cole and Samuel Eto'o have been ruled out for Chelsea's away match at Crystal Palace this weekend.

Cole has been out for multiple weeks now with a knee problem and Eto'o has been recovering from a hamstring injury. Fernando Torres is expected to start up top for Chelsea and Cesar Azpilicueta will continue playing left-back for the Blues. Eto'o will likely find a starting spot once he returns from injury but the same is unlikely for Cole, who has been relegated to a bench role.

Ashley Cole is expected to miss around 10 days with a knee problem that he picked up during international duty this week.

Cole has been relegated to the bench regardless of injury and as long as Cesar Azpilicueta is healthy, you can expect Cole to remain there. You can expect him to return to the bench against Galatasaray on March 18th or against Arsenal on March 22nd. He is not a fantasy option while he is not starting.

Ashley Cole is determined to fight for his spot back in the Chelsea starting lineup.

Cesar Azpilicueta replaced Ashley Cole while he was dealing with injured ribs but Cole has now returned from injury and is ready to fight for his spot back. It seems like Mourinho was trying to send Cole a message with the extended time on the bench and Cole should be able to regain his spot eventually. Rumors surfaced last week about Chelsea trying to sign Fabio Coentrao on loan and a move like that would hurt Cole's chances of a regular starting spot.

Jose Mourinho is reported to be considering a loan deal for Fabio Coentrao during the January transfer window.

This further shows Mourinho's lack of trust for Ashley Cole. Cole had been the starter at his position for a long time but a rib injury has slowed him down in the last two months and he has seen Cesar Azpilicueta take his job away from him. Chelsea signing Coentrao would mean Mourinho doesn't think Ashley Cole is still capable of getting the job done and Cole's World Cup chances would diminish greatly without regular playing time.

Ashley Cole is still dealing with a rib problem and it's uncertain if he will feature against Basel in the Champions League.

Cole missed Chelsea's win against West Ham over the weekend due to the same injury and it seems the left-back is still bothered by the injury. Check back before the weekend to see if anything has changed ahead of Chelsea's home game against Southampton.

Ashley Cole aggravated his rib injury during England's friendly against Germany and was forced to leave the game; he will likely miss Chelsea's derby at West Ham.

The injury means that Cesar Azpilicueta will start again at left-back. Azpilicueta has been in good form in his last two starts for Chelsea and it's unclear if Ashley Cole will regain his starting spot as soon as he is healthy. Azpilicueta could be a good fantasy choice for the weekend with Chelsea facing a West Ham side that doesn't usually employ a striker.

Ashley Cole has had a rough few weeks, having been dropped by both club and country. However, he will hope to put that behind him as he's expected to be in England's starting lineup against Germany this Wednesday.

Roy Hodgson went so far this week as to include Kieran Gibbs and Luke Shaw, in addition to Leighton Baines, as contenders for what was considered Ashley Cole's safe spot on the team. Hopefully for England and Chelsea, Cole will return from this unexpected break stronger, and hungrier, than ever.

Cesar Azpilicueta started at left back again over Ashley Cole. Jose Mourinho said that "[I]t is not Azpilicueta's best position; it is not a position where Ashley can think he is in trouble now. He has to just fight and the position is there waiting for him, it is not a problem."

More mind games from Mourinho, who seems to be sending a message to Cole - and fantasy managers should take note too - that no one is undroppable in his big squad. Well, no one save Petr Cech.

Ashley Cole was one of the six players Mourinho replaced in Chelsea's midweek match against Schalke.

Cole has had the left back spot at Chelsea all to himself for a long time but he's been replaced by Cesar Azpilicueta for this game despite being healthy. The change was unexpected and Mourinho is obviously sending a message to all of his players about the effort and performance he expects. There are no safe fantasy options in the Chelsea squad right now outside of Petr Cech.

Ashley Cole wants to remain at Chelsea for another year after his deal expires at the end of this season.

Cole has been one of Chelsea's most consistent players over the years and they haven't had the need to worry about the left back position but he is now 32 years old and injuries are starting to kick in as he recently missed two games due to a rib injury. Chelsea have Ryan Bertrand, a 24 year old youngster who will likely take over Ashley Cole's role once Cole is no longer there.
