Cesar Azpilicueta's opener was cancelled out by Javier Hernandez midway through the second-half as Chelsea drew 1-1 with West Ham at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues welcomed back Thibaut Courtois and captain Gary Cahill in central defense, with Andreas Christensen dropped to the bench. The home side was lively in the early stages as Alvaro Morata went close with an inventive backheel before Willian forced a strong save from West Ham goalkeeper Joe Hart. Chelsea, though, found the breakthrough on the resulting corner. Moses crossed for Morata who headed the ball across goal for Azpilicueta, who did well to control the ball with a flick and poked it home past Hart. Despite dominating the match, Chelsea paid the price late when Hernandez scored just three minutes later his introduction on 70 minutes. Marcos Alonso and substitute Olivier Giroud went close in the final stages, but Hart produced a pair of acrobatic saves. With six matches remaining, Chelsea trail fourth-placed Tottenham by 10 points. Apr 8 - 2:51 PM

Cesar Azpilicueta says he is not interested in rumors linking him with a summer move to Barcelona because he is "very happy" at Chelsea.

Azpiliueta has proved to be an invaluable member of Chelsea since his arrival from Marseille in 2012. Operating at left-back under Jose Mourinho, the Spanish international shined at center-back this past term in Antonio Conte's 3-4-3 formation, playing every minute in Chelsea's second Premier League title in the past three seasons. While he has reportedly been identified as one of Barcelona's top targets ahead of the summer transfer window, the 27-year-old insists he is keen stay at Stamford Bridge. "It's flattering that a club like Barcelona can be interested in you," he told Spanish outlet Marca. "The interest of teams of this level is very positive, but I am very happy here." Apzilicueta, who signed a new contract in December that will keep him in London until 2020, added: "I feel very valued by the club and I do not think of anything else."

Cesar Azpilicueta was Chelsea's best defender in their 4-0 defeat of Manchester United last weekend, according to statistics compiled by the club's website.

Azpilicueta lead Chelsea in blocks (two) and clearances (five) against Manchester United, while the Spanish defender also won 100 percent of his attempted tackles (four). The 27-year-old has made 14 interceptions and 20 clearances in eight league appearances this season. His recent run of form has also translated well in fantasy where, in the FPL official format, he has scored at least six points in each of last three appearances. Azpilicueta has a current cost of £5.9 and will look to build off his eight points scored in GW9 when Chelsea face Southampton in GW10.

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of left-back Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina on a permanent deal reportedly worth around £23 million.

Marcos Alonso, former Bolton Wanderer and Sunderland full-back, 25, has become Chelsea's fourth summer signing. His arrival sparks an intriguing scenario as Cesar Azpilicueta will now face competition for minutes. Azpilicueta, who made 37 appearances for Chelsea last season, has served as Antonio Conte's starting left-back through the first three matches of the season. Marcos Alonso, who made 31 appearances for Fiorentina in 2015-16, will likely slot into a bench role during his early goings at Stamford Bridge. However, arriving on a such a high fee is a sign he could be handed a shot at a starting XI role. This is a situation to monitor moving forward.

Chelsea's Cesar Azpilicueta is reportedly wanted by a number of big European clubs.

It's unlikely that Chelsea will sell Azpilicueta, who is 26 years old and just entering his prime. Some of the rumors are saying that Jose Mourinho may be interested in Azpilicueta, but it's hard to image Chelsea selling to a rival. The defender will likely be a Chelsea player next season, so draft him as you normally would.

Assistant first team coach Steve Holland confirmed full-back Cesar Azpilicueta suffered a minor muscular problem during todays’ win over Newcastle which will be assessed over the next 24/48 hours.

Chelsea made two changes to the side which lost at White Hart Lane on New Years’ Day as Jose Mourinho surprised everyone by affording Kurt Zouma his first league start of the season replacing Gary Cahill – who dropped to the bench – after his torrid afternoon at the hands of Harry Kane last time out. Thibaut Courtois also had to settle for a place among the subs but that was due to the Belgium goalkeeper carrying a minor finger injury – although he could have played if required. Azpilicueta was making his third start of the year but his afternoon was cut short after suffering a groin problem – Felipe Luis his replacement on 37 minute – however the initial prognosis does suggest that the defender won’t be out for too long although further tests will help to determine the extent of the injury.

Cesar Azpilicueta left Chelsea's match against Newcastle today with what looked like a groin problem.

Azplicueta was replaced by Felipe Luis in the 37th minute and will be assessed after the match. If he is forced to miss any time, Felipe Luis could be a great fantasy asset ahead. Stay tuned here for more updates.

Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a new deal with Chelsea that will keep him in London for another five years.

The defender took over Ashley Cole's left-back job last year and has been a regular at the position despite being a natural right-back. The club brought in Felipe Luis, who could eat into some of Azpilicueta's minutes, but we expect Azpi to be the main option in important matches. That could cause a drop in playing time in the Premier League when the Champions League matches role around. Azpilicueta is a great fantasy choice as he provides both attacking points and a high chance of clean sheets but we recommend for you to have a quality backup available when featuring the Spanish defender.

Chelsea's starting lineup is far from certain with one of the biggest questions left at left-back and right-back.

With the acquisition of Felipe Luis, the logical step would be to move Cesar Azpilicueta to his more natural right-back spot. That's easier said than done when that position has been steadily occupied by Branislav Ivanovic for a few years. It's unknown who will be left on the bench, but with the uncertainty, we recommend you avoid Chelsea's wing backs. The center-back position is more certain where Gary Cahill and John Terry are expected to start. There is also a huge uncertainty at the goalkeeper position, which you can read about at the link below.

Spain XI: Casillas; Azpilicueta, Javi Martínez, Ramos, Jordi Alba; Busquets, Xabi Alonso, Iniesta; Pedro, Diego Costa, Silva

There was thought that a massive overhaul of the XI would be made after Spain's crushing defeat to the Dutch, but only a couple of changes here. Premier leaguers David Silva and Azpilicueta retain their starting roles. Newest Blue Cesc Fabregas begins on the bench again along with Fernando Torres and Juan Mata. David De Gea is unavailable due to a hip injury.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Fernando Torres have urged Chelsea to sign Cesc Fabregas amidst rumors of the midfielder leaving Barcelona.

Fabregas would be a fantastic addition to Chelsea and rumors are growing stronger and stronger that he'll be joining the club this summer. Jose Mourinho confirmed he's interested in the midfielder while Torres and Azpilicueta are saying great things about him in the papers. Fabregas would be a replacement for the recently departed Frank Lampard. He will likely partner Nemanja Matic in midfield and play as a box-to-box midfielder.

Jose Mourinho stated in his post match press conference that his priority is the UEFA Champions League, implying he might not field his best squad against Liverpool this weekend.

This could be Mourinho's way of saying he will field a B-quality squad against Liverpool or it could just be mind games in an attempt to gain an advantage against his rivals this Sunday. Either way, we are not optimistic about Chelsea's chances in this game. Half the squad is injured and they are playing at Anfield against the best club in the Premier League at the moment. With that being said, it's also important to note that Mourinho likes to play a defensive style of football, so Liverpool might not score as many as they usually do. It will generally be wise to avoid this match for fantasy purposes, with the exception of Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard.

Jose Mourinho has said Cesar Azpilicueta is fit and will start Monday's game against Arsenal along with Branislav Ivanovic and John Terry.

That leaves one of Gary Cahill or David Luiz to start in the back while the other joins Ashley Cole on the bench. Chelsea have a very low chance of getting a clean sheet so we would not recommend any defender not named John Terry for your fantasy squad. Terry has shown he can get points without a clean sheet and he somehow always finds the net in big games like these.

Cesar Azpilicueta was a full participant at Thursday's practice after coming off the pitch Tuesday with a lower leg injury in the match against Sunderland.

Azpilicueta's leg injury is obviously not serious as he is already back. He looked healthy in practice today and seems to be on track to play Monday. Azpilicueta has recently taken over Ashley Cole's spot at left back and has a hold on the position for now. He is not a good fantasy option against Arsenal but will be a better play starting next week.

Cesar Azpilicueta will be more than happy to remain on the left flank for the rest of the season if he can keep the starting spot away from Ashley Cole.

Despite the effort, It seems Azpilicueta's last two starts at left-back were a temporary move and Mourinho has made comments about Ashley Cole needing to "fight hard" because the "position is there waiting for him". Avoid Ashley Cole for now, but it seems like the England international should win his position back sooner rather than later.
