Aston Villa have signed Joe Cole to a two year deal on a free transfer.
This is one of more surprising moves of the summer as we didn't really expect Joe Cole to get another Premier League gig. He has suffered through a series of injuries in the past few years and has not been able to provide meaningful contributions in this league. He has slowed down and is not longer the player he used to be. Cole confirmed during his first interview as a Villa player that he'd be playing as a central attacking midfielder. The good news is that he doesn't need a ton of speed to play there but there is no reason to believe Cole can stay healthy for big parts of the season. What makes this even harder to understand is that Villa let Marc Albrighton walk away. Albrighton is a better, younger version of Cole. Villa need a new ownership and front office before they go even deeper in the hole. Jun 10 - 3:52 PM

Joe Cole is set to undergo a medical exam at Aston Villa ahead of signing a two-year contract.

Cole was released by West Ham after his contract expired and has been looking for a new home. The former England international has had a very tough few years due to a series of injuries and has missed extended time year after year. Villa are taking a risk by signing him but he is reportedly taking a big pay cut to go to Villa. Aston Villa could use him if he can stay healthy but that is quite the wish. Cole shouldn't be used in any fantasy leagues.

Joe Cole has left West Ham United after failing to earn a new contract.

Cole once again struggled with injuries all season long and only featured in six Premier League games this season. The injury prone winger will be looking for a new team next season but it will be hard for him to find a Premier League team that wants him considering his age, injury history, and effectiveness. He has stated that finances are not important to him and he just wants to enjoy football and get playing time. He has been linked to Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion.

Joe Cole will return from a groin injury and be available for selection against Norwich.

Cole is probably not fit enough to put in 90 minutes so even if he does start, his upside is limited by his fitness. Considering his year long injury problems, I would not consider him for my fantasy team.

Joe Cole will miss "a couple of weeks" with a groin injury that he picked up against Manchester City yesterday.

Cole cannot get rid of the injury bug and has gone down once again. He hasn't been healthy enough to get in any kind of consistent form this season and has not been a great fantasy option so far. Don't be surprised if a couple of weeks turns into a month.

West Ham midfielder Joe Cole was subbed out in the first half of the Hammers' game against Chelsea but reports suggest he will remain at West Ham.

Rumors surfaces that Cole might be on his way out of West Ham but Cole himself said he has no intention of leaving the Hammers. He dismissed rumors that he is unhappy at the club and said he is looking forward to contributing to West Ham. The often injured winger has had a slow season but says he finally feels fully fit and is ready to contribute during the upcoming busy schedule.

West Ham United continued to struggle to find answers for a lack of a true striker in their attack, having been shut out at home today to Chelsea 0-3.

With the exception of a couple of heroic dribbles by young phenom Ravel Morrison, West Ham United had no answers for Chelsea on either side of the ball. In a curious tactical decision, manager Sam Allardyce made a double substitution before halftime, leaving one of his departing players, Joe Cole, visibly upset, ripping his shirt off as he stormed down the tunnel. The Hammers desperately need the presence of Andy Carroll and a return to form for Kevin Nolan for them to have any level of consistency. Winston Reid's long term absence isn't helping their cause either.

Joe Cole has been inserted into the West Ham starting lineup for the club's Capital One Cup match against Burnley.

Joe Cole came back from his hamstring injury this past weekend and came off the bench against Swansea. If Cole can somehow stay healthy and fit, he can contribute with some creativity to the suffering West Ham attack and could even produce some decent fantasy points. Of course, the health factor will always be a huge risk for Joe Cole so I suggest you avoid him in your fantasy squad.

West Ham midfielder Joe Cole is close to returning from a hamstring injury he suffered earlier in the season.

Cole's return date is listed as October 6th but I wouldn't feel confident starting him in fantasy as he may be rusty or out of shape. Cole showed he can still be productive at the beginning of the season but he doesn't seem to be able to remain healthy for a significant amount of time. Avoid him until he shows he is healthy and fit.

Joe Cole is listed as out until October 27th because of the hamstring injury he suffered earlier in the season.

The worry about Joe Cole has always been injuries, and he couldn't even make it a month into the season without getting injured. Even if he returns by late October as schedule, I wouldn't trust him, as he could go down any minute. This is unfortunate, as Cole had started the season off strong and was confident enough to be fighting for a spot on the English National team.

West Ham winger Joe Cole had an assist in West Ham's win over Pacos de Ferreira and continued his impressive preseason display.

Joe Cole has looked injury free and fit this preseason and continued his form against Pacos de Ferreira. The English winger said earlier this summer that he hopes to make the English World Cup 2014 squad, and although he is far from getting there, he is on the right track. The key here is health and how long he can remain injury free.

Joe Cole scored against FSV Mainz 05 to bring the Hammers back to 2-1 in the 47th minute.

This is a good sign for West Ham as they desperately need Joe Cole to step up and both create and finish chances for them this season. They lack speed and creativity and Cole can certainly create chances when at his best. The problem has been that he is injury prone and can't find a way to stay healthy for a long period of time, making him an unreliable option.

West Ham seem desperate to find a striker and are bidding on Vitesse Arnhem forward Wilfried Bony.

Andy Carroll might not be coming to West Ham after all and West Ham reportedly had their offer for Negredo denied. They now need to sign a striker quickly and there aren't too many options on the market. Bony is an Ivorian forward who can score goals and could be a steal for £12m if he can keep his form in the Premier League.
