Joe Cole looks set to miss out against his former employers after picking up a hamstring strain during last weekends’ defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
The attacking midfielder is no stranger to the treatment room having struggled since moving to Villa Park – this latest setback is his fourth muscular problem of the campaign. But Paul Lambert has a number of potential replacements available going into the early kick-off on Saturday as joint leading scorer Andi Weimann will be hoping for a recall while Fabian Delph is available following his suspension - the Claret & Blues manager will also add new signing Charles Gil to the squad. Nathan Baker is set to return following a lengthy absence following a knee injury – the defender is likely to replace the suspended Ciaran Clark with Ron Vlaar and Philippe Senderos still sidelined. Joe Cole will have a late-fitness test ahead of Aston Villa's week 19 match against Sunderland.

Cole has been out through injury again and is unlikely to start this match. He hasn't been able to stay on the pitch this year and is not to be considered for any fantasy leagues.

Having scored his first goal of the season against Burnley at Turf Moor in game week 13 Joe Cole was afforded his second start in quick succession as Villa travelled to face Crystal Palace.

The former West Ham, Liverpool and Lille midfielder is in the twilight years of his career and having battled injury since moving from Chelsea back in 2010 Cole is hoping to make one more splash on the big stage. Since arriving at Villa Park Paul Lambert has been impressed with the ex-England international and believes Cole still has something to offer after a series of of ongoing and niggling muscular issues. Following his first start last weekend Joe Cole was ready to kick start a new chapter for the Villains but this latest setback - hamstring - will delay his return to regular first team action for now at least. His replacement on Tuesday - Carlos Sanchez - at Selhurst Park shone helping to ensure a clean sheet and secure three points thanks to a Christian Benteke goal – his first since March.

Danny Ings and Joe Cole each scored to give Burnley and Aston Villa a point each in a 1-1 draw.

Joe Cole drew a start as Christian Benteke was out though suspension and opened up the scoring in the first half. The match was entertaining the rest of the way but Villa looked like they would earn a win until the inexperienced Jores Okore brought down Lukas Jutkiewicz in the box in the 87th minute. Danny Ings slotted home for a 1-1 draw and both teams are still struggling in the relegation fight.

Joe Cole is back at training but is behind on fitness and will almost certainly not start this weekend.

Cole is back to his old self - injured or not fit. He hasn't been able to string more than a few games together for a few years now and should not be considered for any fantasy squads anymore. Aston Villa face a strong Arsenal squad this weekend in what should be an entertaining match, but we'd recommend against using too many of their players in fantasy.

Joe Cole has returned to training for Aston Villa ahead of their week one match against Stoke.

Cole has been extremely injury prone in the last few seasons and is already missing time due to injury this year. Aston Villa will be lucky to get ten games out of him this season and the midfielder should be avoided in all fantasy formats. If he does find himself on the pitch for a few weeks in a row, feel free to throw the dice on him in the Yahoo! game, as you can always take him out the following week if he suffers another injury.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is confident that Joe Cole will be fit for the start of the season after suffering a thigh injury a friendly earlier this summer.

Cole has been injured more often than not in the past two to three years and it's unknown why Villa even chose to bring him in. The 32-year-old has problems keeping fit and struggled to find pitch time at West Ham last year. We don't recommend him in any fantasy format as his floor and ceiling and both really low. Avoid until further notice.

Joe Cole made his Aston Villa debut in a friendly against Mansfield which ended 3-1 in Villa's favor.

Cole played the entire first half and looked healthy in the process. With that being said, he's had a series of injuries in the past few years and is too much of a risk to play in fantasy. Cole will probably be coming off the bench for Aston Villa and we don't anticipate him being a difference maker. In the case Cole earns a starting spot at Aston Villa, he could be a cheap filler for your fantasy bench.

West Ham are reportedly interested in taking Chelsea winger Christian Atsu on loan as a boost to their attack.

With Joe Cole gone and West Ham struggling for goals last season, the Hammers have been making big improvements to their attack this summer and Atsu would be the icing on the cake. The young winger had a great World Cup and has been hyped up for the past few years as the future of Ghana. Chelsea have enough attacking midfielders on their books so they can afford to loan out Atsu if they think he'll benefit from the constant first team action. Jose Mourinho wants to use Atsu in pre-season matches before he decides whether to loan him out. Atsu's fantasy appeal would be exponentially higher at West Ham than at Chelsea due to playing time.

Aston Villa have signed Joe Cole to a two year deal on a free transfer.

This is one of more surprising moves of the summer as we didn't really expect Joe Cole to get another Premier League gig. He has suffered through a series of injuries in the past few years and has not been able to provide meaningful contributions in this league. He has slowed down and is not longer the player he used to be. Cole confirmed during his first interview as a Villa player that he'd be playing as a central attacking midfielder. The good news is that he doesn't need a ton of speed to play there but there is no reason to believe Cole can stay healthy for big parts of the season. What makes this even harder to understand is that Villa let Marc Albrighton walk away. Albrighton is a better, younger version of Cole. Villa need a new ownership and front office before they go even deeper in the hole.

Joe Cole is set to undergo a medical exam at Aston Villa ahead of signing a two-year contract.

Cole was released by West Ham after his contract expired and has been looking for a new home. The former England international has had a very tough few years due to a series of injuries and has missed extended time year after year. Villa are taking a risk by signing him but he is reportedly taking a big pay cut to go to Villa. Aston Villa could use him if he can stay healthy but that is quite the wish. Cole shouldn't be used in any fantasy leagues.

Joe Cole has left West Ham United after failing to earn a new contract.

Cole once again struggled with injuries all season long and only featured in six Premier League games this season. The injury prone winger will be looking for a new team next season but it will be hard for him to find a Premier League team that wants him considering his age, injury history, and effectiveness. He has stated that finances are not important to him and he just wants to enjoy football and get playing time. He has been linked to Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion.

Joe Cole will return from a groin injury and be available for selection against Norwich.

Cole is probably not fit enough to put in 90 minutes so even if he does start, his upside is limited by his fitness. Considering his year long injury problems, I would not consider him for my fantasy team.

Joe Cole will miss "a couple of weeks" with a groin injury that he picked up against Manchester City yesterday.

Cole cannot get rid of the injury bug and has gone down once again. He hasn't been healthy enough to get in any kind of consistent form this season and has not been a great fantasy option so far. Don't be surprised if a couple of weeks turns into a month.

West Ham midfielder Joe Cole was subbed out in the first half of the Hammers' game against Chelsea but reports suggest he will remain at West Ham.

Rumors surfaces that Cole might be on his way out of West Ham but Cole himself said he has no intention of leaving the Hammers. He dismissed rumors that he is unhappy at the club and said he is looking forward to contributing to West Ham. The often injured winger has had a slow season but says he finally feels fully fit and is ready to contribute during the upcoming busy schedule.
