Sources have told ESPN FC that Andrea Pirlo will not be loaned to Manchester City now that he is an NYCFC player
On the heels of the Frank Lampard-to-NYCFC-to-MCFC situation last season, there were some eyebrows raised when another iconic midfielder, Andrea Pirlo, signed for the New York affiliate of Manchester City. NYCFC sources have moved to stem the tide of any rumors and have stated that Pirlo will not be loaned out to their Manchester affiliate in the MLS off-season. Given Pirlo's declining athleticism and effectiveness at Juventus, that's probably a good decision regardless of any other factors. Pirlo will join Frank Lampard in an NYCFC shirt soon as the former Chelsea and City man will make his debut this weekend. Jul 8 - 9:53 AM

Frank Lampard scored for Manchester City in his final Premier League appearance as Southampton missed out on a top-six finish, losing 2-0.

Classic Lampard. The veteran finished the season as he's spent his career - scoring goals. The 35-year old, who is set to play for New York City FC in the USA, side-footed home from 10 yards to give the hosts a first-half lead. Sergio Aguero doubled that advantage with a close-range header into an empty net, having seen three earlier efforts saved by Kelvin Davis. Victory for City saw them consolidate second place in the table, ending the season eight points behind champions Chelsea. Ronald Koeman's Saints must now hope Arsenal can defeat Aston Villa in next weekend's FA Cup final to help them earn a place in next season's Europa League.

Middlesbrough produce shock as they beat Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

Patrick Bamford’s goal in the early stages of the second half put Boro ahead and substitute Kike doubled the lead in stoppage time to take the Championship side into the last 16. Although there were opportunities for Willy Caballero and Dedryck Boyata, City boss Manuel Pellegrini named a strong side that included the likes of Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero. Pellegrini turned to Fernandinho and Frank Lampard in an attempt to salvage something, but this time the woodwork came to Boro’s rescue instead. City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Southampton have all been eliminated from the FA Cup.

I hope that he will be fit, not only for Chelsea, but for the FA Cup [against Middlesbrough on Saturday]. It was just a small problem, but he asked to try to play. After that he told us it was impossible but I don’t think that it will be a very important injury and we hope that we can have him for Saturday."

Manchester City and Frank Lampard have come under intense scrutiny after his loan from "sister club" NYCFC was extended through the end of the Premier League season. The league level implications will be sorted out later but Lampard made it a great move in the short term by rescuing three points for City on New Years Day. City saw the Black Cats come back from 2-0 down to draw even before Lampard scored the winner.

Manchester City have extended Frank Lampard's contract at the club until the end of the season.

Lampard is on loan from the MLS but that has been extended until the end of the season. He can now participate in Premier League and European competitions with Manchester until the end of the season. He mainly features from the bench, so his fantasy value remains low.

Frank Lampard scored the only goal as Manchester City triumphed 1-0 at bottom-of-the-table Leicester City.

Lampard continues to defy age as he scored his 175th Premier League goal to give Manchester City the win at Leicester. The ex-Chelsea man slotted home after good work by Samir Nasri's to keep City within three points of Chelsea at the top of the table. However, Manuel Pellegrini's afternoon was spoiled by two injuries after Eden Dzeko pulled a calf muscle in the warm-up and captain Vincent Kompany pulled up with a hamstring problem. Leicester have big problems of their own, rooted to the bottom of the table and without a win in eleven matches.

Frank Lampard has refused to rule out the possibility of extending his loan at Manchester City after an impressive start to his spell at the Etihad Stadium.

Lampard wasn't expected to get much football after joining City on a short-term deal from sister club New York City in the summer, but the 36-year-old midfielder has scored four goals already, including the vital equaliser against his old club Chelsea last month. The veteran is due to return to New York in January, but his form has led to speculation that Manuel Pellegrini may look to extend the loan by at least a month, and the player has not ruled out that possibility. "The temptation is to not get ahead of myself in my career," said Lampard. "I am here until January 1, basically, so I will focus on that and see what happens then."

According to New York City FC head coach Jason Kreis, Lampard will not stay with Manchester City beyond their initial loan deal.

Lampard's stock has been on the rise since joining City on a six-month loan. So much so that multiple reports have suggested the EPL side would like to retain him longer than originally planned. However, NYCFC boss Jason Kreis has adamantly denied this claim, telling reporters "there is no truth to that rumor at all". Lampard will join the 21st club in Major League Soccer in January along with Spanish star David Villa for preseason. NYCFC will play at Yankee Stadium while it looks for a place to build its own stadium.

A tight goalless affair between perhaps the two strongest clubs in the league was given a boost by each side's substitutes, with Frank Lampard's goal equalizing an earlier Chelsea strike, and the two powerhouses settled for a 1-1 draw.

The story of the first half was the rash of yellow cards being handed out by referee Mike Dean, six in total, four of which would be handed to City players. That created a predictable second half problem, when Pablo Zabaleta was handed a second card, paring the Sky Blues down to 10 men. Chelsea would soon score and it looked like they would steal the points at The Etihad, but the appearance of Frank Lampard created a spark and the Chelsea legend burned his former club with a classic strike. It was a much needed result against a Chelsea side that was looking to run away with the table early.

How much game time the midfielder will get when competing against the likes of Yaya Toure, Fernando, Fernandinho, David Silva, Samir Nasri, James Milner and Jesus Navas remains to be seen, but Manuel Pellegrini insists this is no a publicity stunt.
