Norwich City will have Ryan Bennett as part of its squad to face Watford on Wednesday it what is surely a must-win for the club.
Even if the Canaries prevail against Watford, they could still be relegated by the end of Wednesday night if Sunderland defeat Everton to pull at most four points clear of Norwich with one game left to play. Bennett has been missing for the last two games due to illness, which meant that Russell Martin had to shift down to center-half and Ivo Pinto starting at right-back in the absence of Andre Wisdom and Timm Klose for the remainder of the season. But expect Bennett to start, likely in place of Pinto, for the final two matches. Wed, May 11, 2016 01:22:00 AM

Norwich City will wait until the last possible moment in order to check on the fitness of defender Ryan Bennett before Saturday's early match.

Norwich faces a critical double gameweek against Manchester United and Watford this week as the club sit just two points from leaving the relegation zone with a game in hand. With Bennett playing a major role in the club's season, manager Alex Neil said the club will wait to see if the defender can recover from an illness that kept him out of last weekend's match: "Ryan's still struggling at the moment so I'm not quite sure how he's going to be...It will be a real last-minute call, it will be determined by how Ryan is feeling and how he feels he can approach the game if he can."

The decision to leave Ryan Bennett out of the team sheet may have boggled fans and fantasy managers alike, but Alex Neil confirmed there was ample reason.

The Norwich City manager said Bennett had been sick in the week leading up to Saturday's 1-0 loss to Arsenal, and, despite training on Friday, wasn't available to face the Gunners: "We were hoping he was going to be involved. He did a bit of training on Friday, the first he'd done in a week, but he took a bad reaction when we were trying to get him ready, and he wasn't ready." Without Bennett, the Canaries defense held up fairly well with Sebastien Bassong paired up with Russell Martin while Ivo Pinto started at right back in the absence of Andre Wisdom and Timm Klose.

Ryan Bennett got the starting nod in defense for the first time this season, along with two other changes to the starting lineup for Norwich, but the infusion of new faces did nothing to stop the club's recent slide in a 1-0 loss to West Brom.

Matt Jarvis and Jonathan Howson returned to the starting lineup in place of Martin Olsson and Graham Dorrans as Norwich dominated the match on the stat-sheet, outshooting West Brom 16-7 while also holding 61 percent of the possession. But the Canaries couldn't get past a sturdy West Brom defense that recorded its sixth clean sheet of the season. The loss drops Norwich to 16th in the table with three of its next four matches coming against Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Ryan Bennett scored a late header from a Robert Snodgrass corner kick to give Norwich City an important home win.

The game was headed towards a dreaded 0-0 draw but Bennett's goal rescued Norwich and won them the three points. Tom Huddlestone was sent off shortly after the goal for a second yellow but the Hull midfielder should be unhappy with the call as he probably didn't deserve a booking. Norwich are now five points clear of the relegation zone and move up to 12th place, while Hull City remain in 10th on goal difference.

Norwich have contacted Ajax about the availability of Belgian center half, Toby Alderweireld.

Ajax are stocked at the position and would make 10 million pounds selling Alderweireld. He has been linked with Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool, Spurs, Napoli, and Fenerbache this off-season, and it's unclear why he would trade Champions League football for Norwich City. However, if he were to do so, it would be another coup for Norwich who have already surprised many by signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel.
