Ryan Bertrand is hopeful to return before the end of August after undergoing two knee surgeries this summer.
Bertrand was expected to miss five-to-six weeks when the knee surgeries were first announced but he is now hoping to return before the end of August. A return around the 23rd of August, when Southampton face Watford, is possible. He is expected to make a full recovery and be at 100% when he returns. In his absence, Matt Targett will likely get the start. Jul 27 - 9:12 PM

Southampton Manager Ronald Koeman has revealed that Ryan Bertrand has had surgery on both knees and may well miss the start of the Premier League season.

The Saints head man indicated that Bertrand would likely be out somewhere between five and six weeks. That timeline would see him miss all of pre-season training as well as the first match or two of the season. With the rest of the Saints rear guard also in flux with Fraser Forster still injured, Nathaniel Clyne already gone to Anfield, Toby Alderweireld heading to Spurs, and Morgan Schneiderlin likely going to either Manchester United or Arsenal the Bertrand injury is particularly troublesome. It could be that only Jose Fonte and Victor Wanyama are back among Southampton's back seven.

Ryan Bertrand returned from his three-match ban to produce six fantasy points in the Yahoo! game.

Bertrand couldn't help Southampton win this week but he was decent in fantasy. Six points isn't something to write home about, but considering Southampton lost this one and Bertrand was just returning from a suspension, it's a solid return. Look for the left-back to return to his high-scoring days when Southampton face Crystal Palace at home in midweek. He should be a safe fantasy play going forward.

Southampton Football Club has signed Ryan Bertrand from Chelsea on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

Bertrand originally joined Saints on a season-long loan deal at the start of the campaign but, following a number of impressive performances, the 25 year-old has now moved to St Mary’s until 2019. It is the defender’s first permanent move away from Stamford Bridge, having enjoyed seven loan spells since making his breakthrough with the London club. Bertrand took in spells at Bournemouth, Oldham Athletic, Norwich City, Reading and Nottingham Forest before being given his chance at Chelsea.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand will miss three weeks after being sent off in the match against Swansea.

Ronald Koeman mentioned after the game that he believes Bertrand's challenge was only a yellow-card offense but the Saints have decided not to appeal the decision. Bertrand will miss the games against QPR, West Ham, and Liverpool and should be taken out of all fantasy rosters for the time being. He is obviously worth holding on in season-long leagues. Matt Targett will likely step in and should be a decently cheap fantasy option for managers while Nathaniel Clyne is the obvious fantasy replacement for those with Bertrand.

Ryan Bertrand is unavailable for week 19 due to a clause in his contract preventing him from playing against his parent club.

Bertrand is on loan from Chelsea and cannot face the Blues due to a clause in his contract. The options to replace him at left-back are experienced Toby Alderweireld and youngster Matt Targett. Alderweireld is a lock to play either at left-back or center-back and thus is the better fantasy option.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand had yet another great fantasy week despite Southampton losing 1-0 to Burnley.

Bertrand is now the highest scoring defender in the Yahoo! game. His 11 points this week came without a clean sheet and if you look at his breakdown of points it's easy to see he can contribute without clean sheets. Clean sheets: 42 points. Passes intercepted: 31. Fouls won: 20. Corners won: 18. Tackles won: 18. Continue using him with confidence in any matchup.

Ryan Bertrand can put in another strong performance as Southampton host Sunderland in Week 8.

On-loan from Chelsea, Bertrand has been superb for the Saints and can't be far away from an England call-up. Solid in defence and increasingly impressive linking up with Dusan Tadic down the left flank, the fantasy points are flowing in the Yahoo game, so the 25-year-old deserves to be top of the list of defenders for the match against the Black Cats.

Ryan Bertrand is happy to be getting regular playing time at Southampton after riding the bench at Chelsea.

Bertrand has been very good this season and has helped Southampton look like a top four squad. He has provided some attacking sparks at times and has been solid in tracking back defensively. With the Saints being better than expected, Bertrand is a very good fantasy option, especially in home matches. The only bad news here is that Bertrand's price has gone up in almost all formats after his solid start to the season.

Southampton beat QPR 2-1 to continues their superb start under new boss Ronald Koeman.

A rare Ryan Bertrand goal gave Southampton the lead, drilling low beneath Robert Green, before Charlie Austin levelled with a superb volley on the turn to give QPR hope of their first away point of the season. However, within minutes Graziano Pelle had put the Saints back ahead with an even better goal, and they held on for a deserved win. Dusan Tadic was impressive once again, hitting the woodwork twice and grabbing an assist.

Ryan Bertrand could be a wise addition to your Yahoo fantasy defence as Southampton face West Brom in Week 2.

A promising debut from Bertrand for Southampton at Anfield suggests the left-back is ready to come out of the shadows and nail down a permanent first-team spot for the first time in his career. The Saints have a cracking fixture with a potential clean sheet opportunity, so Bertrand is an absolute steal priced below £5million.

Southampton have found an immediate replacement for Luke Shaw in the form of a one year loan for Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand for the upcoming season.

In the wake of the mass exodus at Southampton, the Saints are slowly starting to rebuild. They made earlier moves for Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle for the attacking end but with Luke Shaw and Dejan Lovern gone there is an urgent need to address the defense as well. Southampton made their first move in that direction with the loan signing of Ryan Bertrand from Chelsea. On loan at Aston Villa for the second half of last season, the left back wasn't exceptional by any stretch of the imagination but it would have been hard to be exceptional at Villa last season no matter how good you were as a player. Bertrand will likely get first crack at the starting role and be a solid fantasy option when the Saints have favorable match-ups.

With their big money move for Alberto Moreno reportedly stalling because Sevilla want it to be an even bigger money move, Liverpool have been linked with Chelsea spare part Ryan Bertrand.

Bertrand, who spent the second half of last season at Aston Villa on loan from Chelsea, finds himself linked with a move to Liverpool. Bertrand wasn't spectacular at Villa last season but it is hard to say how much of that was Bertrand and how much was Villa. With Liverpool struggling at left back last season and their first choice target seemingly too expensive, he would seem an upgrade over the frequently-injured Jose Enrique. Of course this could also just be a leak to let Sevilla know that Liverpool have options if the Spanish club stick to their guns on price. Negotiating in the press can be fun.

Aston Villa was more conservative against Manchester City on Wednesday but it didn't help as the defensive left side was victimized twice by Pablo Zabaleta to effectively decide the match.

Ryan Bertrand has been a Yahoo fantasy favorite in the second half of the season but his real life results won't make any but City supporters today. Pablo Zabaleta was twice played in behind the Villa defense in the middle of the second half and both plays eventually ended in goals for Dzeko. Fantasy managers and Villa supporters will have to hope for more from Bertrand and his mates as they will all presumably be playing for their spots at Villa in what has been a poor season under Paul Lambert who may also face the sack.

Ryan Bertrand started Aston Villa's match against Hull City in midfield instead of his usual left back spot.

Bertrand still gets points if Villa keep a clean sheet even when he plays in midfield but he has a lot more opportunities to get attacking points. Villa are playing well against Hull and if Paul Lambert keeps the same lineup to finish off the season, Bertrand can be a good pick against Tottenham in the final week of the season. Nathan Bakeer, Ron Vlaar, and Ciaran Clark started in the back while Matthew Lowton and Bertrand provided support on the wings when necessary.
