Ryan Bertrand will play no part in the upcoming internationals following his withdrawal from the England squad as a precautionary measure.
The defender has been managing an ongoing back problem since January and Gareth Southgate gave Bertrand permission to return to Southampton’s Staplewood training ground for treatment. The 28-year-old will miss the friendly matches with Netherlands in Amsterdam on Friday and the visit of Italy to Wembley next Tuesday. The Three Lions manager will now look to start Tottenham full-back Danny Rose in at least one of those games while Ashley Young, who was brought in from the international wilderness after more than four years away, could also play a part on the left following his impressive club form this season. Manchester City appear to be winning the race to sign Southampton full-back Ryan Bertrand who is expected to leave the south coast side during this summer.

Monaco have slapped a £40m price tag on left-back Benjamin Mendy meaning Pep Guardiola will now focus his attention on Bertrand with international teammate, Kyle Walker, primed to make the switch to the Etihad. However, City face stiff competition for his signature. Chelsea are considering bringing Bertrand back to the Bridge after selling him to Southampton for £10m in 2015. Elsewhere, Jurgen Klopp is also interested, although the Saints won’t be keen on dealing with representatives from Liverpool who face a Premier League investigation for their alleged illegal tapping up of centre-back Virgil van Dijk. Midfielder James Milner played most of the season in the back four with recognised left-back Alberto Moreno, just two Premier League starts, limited to nothing more than a bit part role.

Ryan Bertrand scored a late goal against former club Chelsea but it wasn't nearly enough as the Blues beat the Saints 4-2 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

After a number of reunions in the tunnel leading up to the match, Ryan Bertrand can be happy with scoring a goal against his former mates but not with the outcome for his side. The Saints trailed early and often against the leaders with Eden Hazard opening the scoring after five minutes. Oriol Romeu equalized in the 24th minute but Gary Cahill put the Blues ahead to stay in first half stoppage time. Diego Costa extended the lead twice and ended it as a contest before Bertrand got his goal deep in second half stoppage time to salvage a little pride if not a useful result.

Claude Puel will assess a number of players ahead of his sides trip to the Hawthorns on Saturday.

Southampton enjoyed a come from behind win over in-form side Crystal Palace midweek, a victory which keeps alive their slim hopes of a Europa League spot. But the Saints face the prospect of a tricky trip to West Brom in game week thirty-two without several of their first-team stars. Ryan Bertrand is hampered by a muscular problem: "He felt something with his hamstring [last weekend]," and Puel can only "hope" the England international is available. He also revealed that Steven Davis has picked up an ankle injury: "We will see with the doctor if he can participate," while the rest of the squad will be assessed in training. That includes Manolo Gabbiadini [groin] and Sofiane Boufal. Oriol Romeu has been ruled out of the next two games after collecting his tenth yellow card of the campaign.

Southampton may play Ryan Bertrand at centre-back in GW25 to negate Sunderland striker Jermaine Defoe.

Bertrand is one of the Saints' main attacking outlets on the left side, but insists he can naturally slot into the "high risk" central role if called upon. With Jose Fonte gone and Van Dijk injured, manager Claude Puel has been forced to turn to backups Maya Yoshida and youngster Jack Stephens. The duo did well in the EFL Cup against Liverpool but struggled in Southampton's defeats to West Ham and Swansea. Puel has not confirmed or denied that he will deploy Bertrand in the middle, given that he player there in a back three under Koeman at times.

Southampton found form against an under-strength Arsenal side to comprehensively defeat them at the Emirates on Wednesday night.

The Saints' opener came from the unlikely boot of Jordy Clasie, who notched up his first for the club with a long range strike which gave Martinez no chance between the sticks. Southampton's second also came from range, this time through Ryan Bertrand. The full-back's shot from the edge of the box came about after good build up play by Davis and Boufal. They had seized upon a mistake by Arsenal's Carl Jenkinson. The Saints could have made the scoreline more comfortable in a game they dominated - both Hojbjerg and Boufal went close. Arsenal's best chances fell to Oxlade Chamberlain and Ramsey, however the Gunners in general failed to form a potent attack without Ozil, Sanchez, Walcott and Giroud in their midst.

Ryan Bertrand has been forced off during the first half England’s World Cup Qualifying match with Malta because of injury.

The Southampton full-back was a surprise selection ahead of Tottenham’s Danny Rose in Gareth Southgate’s first senior game in charge. However, Bertrand lasted less than 20 minutes after he pulled up sharply with a suspected hamstring strain as he chased down an over hit Wayne Rooney through ball. If confirmed, then the 27-year-old could miss a number of weeks and adds to Claude Puel’s growing list of injury concerns. The status of Cedric Soares [foot] is still unknown while Jeremy Pied will miss the remainder of the campaign after he ruptured his ACL in training. Matt Targett would provide cover at left-back with Cuco Martina deputising on the opposite flank.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand confirmed he is ready to make his season debut for the club after missing out with injury.

The former Chelsea left-back missed the first two games with a preseason injury and returned to the bench for the Week 3 matchup against Sunderland with Matt Targett starting the first three matches. But Bertrand confirmed that he is ready to start after building up strength during the international break: "You need games to get to full fitness, but I’m as fit as possible with the work that I have put in on the training ground over the last few weeks. It’s good to be back out there training and getting back up to fitness. Everything has gone well so far and I’m looking forward to getting back out on the pitch."

Ryan Bertrand has been ruled out of Southampton's Premier League opener against Watford due to injury.

"Ryan Bertrand, he cannot play this game. We will see for the next game," coach Claude Puel told Southampton's official YouTube channel, ruling the left-back out of Saturday's match versus Watford and conveying uncertainty in regards to the prospect of him featuring against Manchester United next week. While the club did not reveal what the injury was or provide a timeline for his return, it is likely that 20-year-old Matthew Targett will be called upon to to take the place of the English international.

Ryan Bertrand has committed his future to Southampton after agreeing a new and improved 5-year deal keeping him at St Marys' until 2021.

The left-back joined the South Coast side in the summer of 2014, initially on-loan, before Ronald Koeman made the move permanent just six months later. Heading into the week of the Euros, Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand is still receiving medical attention for a knock.

The left-back has not trained with the England national team since picking up a knock in a friendly win against Australia on May 27. After arriving at the national team's base for the European championships in Chantilly, just north of Paris, Bertrand was held out of training in order to receive treatment for the unspecified injury. With just four days before the Three Lions' tournament opener against Russia in Marseille, all signs point to Tottenham defender Danny Rose receiving the start at left-back.

Ryan Bertrand will miss England’s friendly against Germany in Berlin on Saturday after returning to Southampton for treatment.

Bertrand joined up with the national team on Monday even though he picked up an unspecified injury during the dramatic 3-2 win over Manchester United just 24 hours before. The full-back has watched his international teammate’s train all week at St Georges Park while receiving treatment, but despite the early optimism, Bertrand has now been ruled out by the England medical team. Roy Hodgson confirmed he will not be calling anyone up as a replacement leaving Danny Rose as the only recognised left-back. The news will come as a blow to West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell who was hoping to force his way into the managers European Championship plans.

Ryan Bertrand is hoping to get a chance to impress England Boss Roy Hodgson in order to cement his place in the England Euro 2016 squad, according to Sky Sports.

The defender has looked good for Southampton in the past two years and with the England squad facing a number of injuries right now, Bertrand has a chance to cement his place for Euro 2016. The defender is back in form now and should be considered in all fantasy leagues in the Premier League. He gets an extra boost in leagues that reward defenders with points for crosses or other offensive statistics.

Ryan Bertrand is huge for Southampton according to team captain Jose Fonte.

Bertrand started and played a full match even thought Ronald Koeman had said earlier last week that he's not ready for a full 90 minutes. Bertrand is safe going forward and one of the better fantasy defenders out there, especially in leagues that reward points for crosses. If he's on any waiver wires, make sure to pick him up as soon as possible. Matt Targett can be dropped.
