Branislav Ivanovic could miss the final game of the season as he struggles to shake off the groin problem he suffered at the Stadium of Light last weekend.
Guus Hiddink was forced into a defensive reshuffle at Anfield on Wednesday following the loss of Ivanovic to injury and John Terry to suspension. Once again, the Dutchman opted to play John Obi Mikel in the back four with Baba Rahman starting at left-back - Azpilicueta was moved across onto the right. Matt Miazga failed to make the match day squad and Chelsea could start with the same defensive unit, although Thibaut Courtois (illness) will return in place of Asmir Begovic if the goalkeeper is passed fit. A hamstring injury will keep Diego Costa on the side-lines with Bertrand Traore favourite to start. Loic Remy is injured and Alexandre Pato / Radamel Falcao are way down the pecking order. Willian will be assessed after tweaking his hamstring against Liverpool. May 12 - 10:41 AM

Chelsea played a poor match against Southampton today but were able to steal a 2-1 win with two late goals from Branislav Ivanovic and Cesc Fabregas.

The Blues were down at halftime due to a Shane Long goal, but they rallied late and were able to complete a comeback. Cesc Fabregas leveled the match in the 75th minute through a Diego Costa assist, while Branislav Ivanovic won it late in the 89th minute. Chelsea improve to 11th place with the three points, and are now only five points behind sixth place.

Chelsea started the second post-Mourinho era well by beating Sunderland 3-1.

The Blues started the match in great fashion with a Branislav Ivanovic header and a Pedro finish just minutes later. Oscar slotted from the penalty spot at the beginning of the second half and the match was over at that time despite Sunderland's lone goal in the 53rd minute. The Blues looked comfortable and enjoyed 68% possession, outshooting Sunderland 17 to 11. The new era is off to a good start.

Branislav Ivanovic will be available for selection in week 12 after missing a few weeks with a hamstring injury.

It's hard to say whether Chelsea have played better without Ivanovic and knowing Mourinho, we won't be surprised to see Ivanovic start in week 12. We don't love the prospect of playing Ivanovic in fantasy leagues this week and we would avoid him regardless of whether or not he starts.

Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic is still not fit after suffering a hamstring injury a few weeks ago.

He has been ruled out, along with Thibaut Courtois, while everyone else is either fit or waiting on a late fitness test. Ivanovic has really struggled with quick wingers this season and it's unknown if he'll regain his starting spot upon his return. Kurt Zouma or Baba Rahman will most likely start in his place, but both are mediocre fantasy options at best.

Branislav Ivanovic has been ruled out for Week 9 with a hamstring injury.

Ivanovic was injured in Serbia's qualifying win over Albania this week and will miss some time from action. This could be a blessing in disguise for Chelsea as Ivanovic has been horrific in recent weeks while Mourinho continues to trust him mindlessly. We expect Baba Rahman to start in his absence while Cesar Azpilicueta may move to his natural right-back position.

Branislav Ivanovic and Nemanja Matic will be assessed after the Chelsea duo limped out of Thursday nights’ dramatic qualifying win in Albania.

Aleksandar Kolarov and Adem Ljajic both struck in time added on to secure all 3-pts for Serbia to set-up a nail-biting finale to Group I. Denmark [currently occupy second place] remain just 1-pt ahead of Albania. Despite their indifferent start to the season, Ivanovic and Matic both play key roles domestically and Jose Mourinho will be counting on their availability as Chelsea take on Aston Villa [game week nine] in a match they must simply win. Ivanovic was said to have sustained a hamstring injury early in the second half while Matic suffered a similar muscle problem late on.

Branislav Ivanovic continues enjoying one of the weirdest spells of job security we've seen in recent years.

Ivanovic has been one of Chelsea's worst players by a wide margin yet he still continues getting the start at left-back. He has been exposed week after week by opposing wingers and yet Jose Mourinho continues to employ him at the back. Chelsea are not earning any clean sheets at the moment and Ivanovic is not doing anything worthy of fantasy consideration. He shouldn't be used in daily leagues and should be left on the bench in draft leagues.

Branislav Ivanovic is insisting that Chelsea shouldn't be panicking after a slow start to the season.

The midfielder believes that the Londoners have plenty of time to turn things around and that there is no reason to panic this early in the season. Although he is right, the defender should be panicking about his performance in the last two weeks. Ivanovic has been burned time and time again by the likes of Jefferson Montero, Aleksandar Kolarov, and Raheem Sterling and he should really focus on improving if he wants to help Chelsea turn things around. The club have signed Abdul Baba Rahman from AC Augsburg and the youngster is supposed to compete with Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back, who will in turn compete with Ivanovic at right-back. Don't be surprised if Ivanovic doesn't start in weeks three or four.

Chelsea have signed left-back Abdul Baba Rahman from FC Augsburg.

The left-back is much needed as Chelsea have struggled at full-back this season. Branislav Ivanovic has been completely horrific in his first two matches and some are suggesting the Blues might move Cesar Azpilicueta to his natural right-back position and start Rahman at left-back as early as next week. The 21-year-old might be ready for a start soon, so keep an eye out for him in fantasy leagues.

Branislav Ivanovic was continuously exposed by Swansea City in Chelsea's first Premier League match.

Ivanovic has never been the fastest left-back, but he used to always be able to hold his own against any opponent. That wasn't the case Saturday as he was exposes time and time again, most frequently by winger Jefferson Montero. Ivanovic couldn't keep up with the quick Swansea attacker and John Terry and Garry Cahill had to often cover for him after he was beaten. Ivanovic was also ineffective in attack, most notably when he fell on his face when trying to kick a ball in the first half. He needs to improve quickly or Chelsea may be forced to look for further help before the transfer deadline closes.

Branislav Ivanovic was named in the Champions League squad of the season after another impressive season with Chelsea.

Ivanovic was the only Premier League player to be named in the squad, which was an 18-man list of players dominated by Barcelona. Ivanovic was spectacular in both the Champions League and Premier League and finished the season without missing a single minute of Premier League action. The heavy minutes once again resulted in a stellar fantasy performance across all platforms and Ivanovic should be one of the first defenders off the board next season.

Chelsea have all but sealed the Premier League title after bouncing back from a 1-0 deficit to beat Leicester City 1-3.

It was a tale of two halves as Leicester took the initial lead into halftime with a stoppage time goal and had plenty of momentum while the Chelsea attack looked sluggish. Jose Mourinho must have dropped the hammer during the break because the Blues came out strong in the 2nd, equalizing within three minutes into the second frame with a Didier Drogba goal. He was teed up by Branislav Ivanovic, who was in his usual attacking form. The game was still level into the 79th minute, but then the wheels came off for the Foxes defense, and goals were grabbed by John Terry and Ramires just four minutes apart to put the game to bed. Two points are needed to lock in the title for Chelsea with four games to go. They could be in for a parade next week.

Branislav Ivanovic scored again in Chelsea's Premier League match against Burnley yesterday despite carrying a minor knock.

Ivanovic was a slight risk for the match but Mourinho decided the Serbian defender was too important to miss and played him regardless. It turned out to be the right decision as Ivanovic proved his worth once again with yet another goal. The defender plays like a midfielder most of the time and his offensive production is a great compliment to his ability to earn a clean sheet bonus. He is one of the best fantasy defenders in the game this year and should be owned in all formats.

Branislav Ivanovic is carrying a minor knock and will be a risk when Chelsea face Burnley this weekend.

Chelsea are huge favorites against Burnley so it's not out of the question that Ivanovic is simply rested to avoid aggravating the injury. It's also worth noting Oscar and Willian are also dealing with minor knocks, so all could be rested in such a easy matchup. Juan Cuadrado, Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas, and Ramires would all benefit if any of the above were to be rested. If Ivanovic sits, Felipe Luis and Cesar Azpilicueta will work the flanks.
