Maynor Figueroa has missed the NUFC match last weekend for personal reasons and will return to start at left back against West Ham United.
Hull City have defied expectations to start the season strong. They managed a win against Newcastle with Figueroa absent but will welcome him back as they host another struggling side in the Hammers. Even at full strength Hull have conceded goals so Figueroa isn't a terribly attractive fantasy option but he is a step up from the alternatives. Fri, Sep 27, 2013 04:44:00 PM

Hull, looking to build a team competitive in the Premier League, are closing in on the signature of Curtis Davies from Birmingham and are rumored to be chasing Gent forward Ilombe Mboyo as well.

After capturing former Wigan man Maynor Figueroa, Hull are looking to add to their roster of defenders who have been relegated in the recent past by adding Curtis Davies. The fee is relatively modest at a reported £2.3 million. They are also looking to boost their forward line with the 26 year-old Ilombe Mboyo who has scored 36 in 77 for Gent. Belgians are all the rage these days and it looks interested in getting in on the action.

Former Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa has joined Hull City on a free transfer - he signed a two year deal with the newly promoted side.

Newly promoted teams always have to balance the desire to stay up in the Premier League with the fact that they enter the season as odds on favorites to go back down. With this in mind, low risk free transfers with Premier League experience like Figueroa are the ideal targets. He is a solid player who will bring Premier League experience to a team with a distinct lack of it going into the summer. He won't, however, make a significant impact on their bid to stay up.

Steve Bruce brought Maynor Figueroa to the Premier League and Wigan in the 2007-2008 season and may be set to engineer his next move as well - to rejoin him at Hull City.

Hull City will need some experienced Premier League campaigners and Figueroa will fit the bill. It is good to be wary of managers who rely too much on "getting the band back together" - especially many years later - but Figueroa would be a solid signing if he comes at a reasonable price. He won't change the course of Hull's season but there have certainly been worse signings.
