Phil Bardsley conceded a penalty to Ashley Williams on a PK and Shay Given was charged with an own goal as Leighton Baines' penalty rebounded in off the goalkeeper for the only goal of the match.
It isn't the sort of moment that Shay Given will appreciate as he likely heads to the bench after the international break. With Jack Butland expected back soon the former Ireland goalkeeper will feel unlucky to have conceded the Baines penalty. Stoke City will be even more concerned as the goal was the result of the second penalty from a corner kick awarded against them in the space of two weeks. Mark Hughes had better spend some time cleaning up the set piece defense or it's going to be an ugly season for the Potters. Sat, Aug 27, 2016 11:54:00 AM

With Jack Butland being brought back slowly from injury, Shay Given will get his third consecutive start in net for the Potters against Everton at Goodison Park.

With Ronald Koeman figuring things out at Everton and getting Yannick Bolasie and Romelu Lukaku up to speed, picking Given is a questionable-at-best decision. There is a case that he'll likely be called on to make lots of saves so there is some potential in formats where saves are well-rewarded. For those formats where a clean sheet is paramount, Given should be ignored.

Stoke are hopeful the injury sustained by Shay Given during the 4-0 defeat at Man City is not as serious as originally feared.

Given became the first Stoke player since Stanley Matthews - in 1964 - to play a league match in his 40s on Saturday. But, his afternoon was cut short after the veteran stopper tweaked his groin in the opening forty-five minutes. However, reports from Sky Sports indicate the problem is not as bad as initially thought and that the issue had been caused by a reaction to playing games in quick succession having spent most the season sidelined through injury. The loss of Given left the Potters with only one fully fit senior goalkeeper – Jakob Haugaard – as Jack Butland continues his recovery from a broken ankle.

Veteran Shay Given was handed his first start for Stoke City but it was not a memorable day as the Potters were crushed at home by Tottenham, 0-4.

Mark Hughes turned to Given in place of Jakob Haugaard but they way Tottenham played this evening, it could hardly make a difference who was between the sticks for the Potters. Bojan got the start up top and Marko Arnautovic made his return but the attack was stifled by a well organized Spurs defense and Hugo Lloris barely had to react to anything. As if this result wasn't damaging enough to Stoke's confidence, their next match will be at The Etihad against a Manchester City side that is also currently firing on all cylinders.

The Republic of Ireland have called up Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot for Sundays’ crucial match against Poland after Shay Given was ruled through injury.

Given was stretchered off moments before half-time on Thursday after appearing to twist his knee while making a clearance. The 39-year-old has already returned to Stoke for further tests. In his absence Darren Randolph is expected to take the goalkeepers jersey knowing that a draw in Warsaw could be enough to secure their place in next summers’ European Championships. Martin O’Neill’s men edged out World Champions Germany [1-nil] at the Aviva Stadium to set up a thrilling finale to the group stages and a draw [2-2] or better would see them qualify automatically for France. The squad will be boosted by the availability of Seamus Coleman and Marc Wilson who have recovered from their respective muscular problems.

Stoke City have signed Shay Given who will presumably back up Jack Butland at the Britannia this season with Asmir Begovic headed to Stamford Bridge.

All signs point to Begovic being on his way to West London this evening. Chelsea have loaned Stoke City Marco Van Ginkel. Stoke City have acquired another goalkeeper. All that is left is for the official announcement on Begovic to be made. Given seems unlikely to get a lot of playing time unless Jack Butland turns out to be over-matched but in Butland's end-of-season run he seemed to be ready to take over the starting role.

Shay Given is questionable for the FA Cup Final with a groin injury.

Given suffered a groin injury but has just returned to training and "could" be fit for the Final. Given was the preferred goalkeeper at the end of the season and will likely get the start if he's healthy. If he can't go, Brad Guzan will be between the posts against Arsenal. Given was solid at the end of the season but is now 39 years of age and it's very unlikely that he'll start at the beginning of next season. He should be avoided in fantasy drafts unless there is an indication from Tim Sherwood that he plans on starting Given next season.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given was embarrassed by Southampton as he conceded six goals on Saturday.

Shay Given had done a respectable job in the past few weeks but Saturday was rough for the goalkeeper as Southampton netted six goals against him. Despite the loss, Aston Villa are now safe from relegation and the goalkeeper position may need to be addressed for next season. Given is at the end of his career and his future for next season is unknown, so we should expect to see Brad Guzan in goal next week as Villa try to evaluate their options for the future.

Shay Given continues to play solid for Aston Villa and should keep Brad Guzan on the bench.

Guzan was benched after some horrible mistakes earlier this month and Shay Given has been solid coming in for him. Given kept a clean sheet for Aston Villa against West Ham this past weekend and should be given the start against for the next two matches. Aston Villa face Southampton and Burnley for the last two weeks of the season, giving Say Given every chance to shine once again.

Shay Given was awarded with a start last weekend against Everton after Brad Guzan made a number of horrible mistakes against Manchester City the week before.

Given was solid against Everton despite conceding twice and with Guzan struggling so much the week before, it's unknown who will start this week. Aston Villa are at home against West Ham, and despite conceding five goals in their past two matches, we think the starting goalkeeper here has a decent chance at a clean sheet. We would consider using Given in formats where you can make changes up until kickoff.

Shay Given is keeping his options open and is willing to give up his coaching duties at Aston Villa if a team offers him a chance at playing.

Given has been on the bench this season at Aston Villa and was promoted to assistant manager late in the year after one of Paul Lambert's assistants was suspended. The 38 year old understands that he has to move away from Villa if he wants to play; Villa's Brad Guzan has a strong hold on the position. Given has two years left on his contract but it's hard to imagine Villa refuse to let him go if he finds a suitor.

Shay Given and Gordon Cowans have been promoted to assist Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert after the club suspended assistant manager Ian Culverhouse and head of football operations Gary Karsa earlier today.

Culverhouse and Karsa have been suspended for an "internal investigation" and it's unknown if it has anything to do with Villa's poor form at the moment. The club is struggling without their two strikers, Christian Benteke and Libor Kozak, who are out for the season with injuries. There are even rumors of Paul Lambert leaving the club in the summer, but they seem to be just rumors at the moment.

Shay Given is currently on loan at Middlesbrough but Aston Villa have decided not to let him extend his loan for the rest of the season.

Given's loan deal ends at the end of February and he will then return to Aston Villa at that time. Middlesbrough have tried to extend the loan until the end of the season but have been denied by Villa, who want to be able to recall Given at any time and a loan extension will prevent them from doing so. Given is the third choice goalkeeper at Aston Villa behind Brad Guzan and Jed Steer.

Liverpool are after Aston Villa backup goalkeeper Shay Given in order to bring more experience to the position.

Aston Villa's starter is Brad Guzan and the right price, they might be willing to let Given go at the right price. Liverpool's starter is Simon Mignolet, who is young and inexperienced. Mignolet can learn a lot of Given, who has been around the league for a while. This rumor is definitely possible if the two teams can settle the money.

Hull City are considering making a £1m offer for Aston Villa's Shay Given.

Shay Given has fallen out of favor at Aston Villa, and Villa boss Paul Lambert recently praised the team's other keeper, Brad Guzan. Hull should be able to get Given for a cheap price and he can certainly help the newcomers.
