Steve Harper, Liam Rosenior, Paul McShane, Maynor Figueroa, Yannick Sagbo and Joe Dudgeon were all released by Hull City as the club prepares for life in the Championship.
Harper, who ended the season as Hull City's first choice keeper at the age of 40, was released. Between Harper, Rosenior, McShane and Figueroa the club released veteran players that were probably all on higher wages than feasible for a club that will be dealing with life in the second tier next season. Harper, in particular, showed that he is still a viable reserve and could catch on elsewhere in the league if he chooses to continue his career. May 28 - 5:07 PM

Steve Harper accumulated an exceptional 46 points in the Yahoo scoring system on the strength of two clean sheet wins in Week 34.

Who would have guessed that 800-year-old Steve Harper (OK, he's 40) would be the run-away best producing goalkeeper in any match week this season, let alone one where he faced two seemingly good teams in Liverpool and Crystal Palace. Hull City exceeded expectations by winning twice while Harper added 12 saves over the two matches to his two wins and two clean sheets. Barring a penalty save, that's about as good as it gets for a goalkeeper in a single match week.

Steve Harper could be set for an extended spell on the sidelines if a scan next week confirms the former Newcastle United goalkeeper suffered a bicep rupture at the Emirates.

The aging stopper was in sparkling form on Saturday - belying his advancing years - with a string of top class saves to keep Hull in the game as Arsenal pushed hard to end the match as a contest during the first half. However moments before the 45 minutes played out Harper landed awkwardly as he scrambled down to make a save and immediately called to the sidelines for medical assistance. Harper – deputising for the injured Allan McGregor [shoulder] – could now face a number of months out if a grade three tear is confirmed meaning Steve Bruce may recall fourth choice goalkeeper Mark Oxley from his current loan spell at Hibernian.

Hull City conceded three goals to Arsenal in an embarrassing 3-0 loss at the KC Stadium.

Hull City continued their season of mediocrity by playing an average match that they ended up losing by a margin. They started the game well but missed a few chances to take the lead and once Arsenal scored, it was over. Jake Livermore was one of the only positives for The Tigers but couldn't capitalize on his chances. Hull are now in 14th place, 6 points ahead of the relegation zone, but they may need to earn another point before the season is over if they want to avoid relegation.

With Allan McGregor out of action for approximately six weeks, Steve Harper is poised to get a run of first team action.

There are a few weeks over the month of November where Steve Harper will be particularly interesting as a potential fantasy starter. Hull City have home matches with Sunderland (November 2) and Crystal Place (November 23) that represent opportunities for the relatively inexpensive Harper to produce strong results for his team and fantasy managers alike. His price is low and may go lower with a Week 9 match-up at White Hart Lane.

Former Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper, who was released by the club, is attracting interest from Hull City.

Harper would be an ideal candidate to deputize for new signing Allan McGregor. However, it remains to be seen if he wants to do that job, having been behind Shay Given and Tim Krul for much of his career to date.
