Former Stoke City defender Andy Wilkinson has announced his retirement at 31 years old after struggling to recover from a concussion.
The center-back suffered the injury a year ago this week after being struck in the temple by a volleyed shot against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup. Wilkinson has not played since the incident due to a series of concussion tests and recovery programs, including three trips to visit specialists in America. Despite seeing his contract expire this summer, the Potters offered him a six-month contract through January, but the injury proved to be too much to overcome. The defender spent his entire career at Stoke City, amassing 194 senior appearances for the club. Feb 19 - 4:55 PM
