Mark Schwarzer earned a clean sheet in Leicester's 0-0 draw against Hull this weekend.
Leicester City earned a draw this weekend and it was Mark Schwarzer who was in goal for the match. Kasper Schmeichel returned from injury but was left on the bench and it's likely he'll remain there after the Schwarzer clean sheet. Neither goalkeeper should be used in fantasy as Leicester are not likely to earn another clean sheet soon, but if you absolutely must, go with Schwarzer. Wed, Mar 18, 2015 10:55:00 PM

Leicester have completed their first signing of the January transfer window with the capture of Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.

The 42-year-old will move on a free transfer from the Blues, ending his 18 months service at the club. Schwarzer's arrival to King Power Stadium will be a welcome addition to manager Nigel Pearson as his side battles relegation. The former Australian international's departure from Chelsea also indicates that Petr Cech is likely to remain at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season. Cech has been linked with a move away from west London after losing his place to Thibaut Courtois in goal, but that possibility looks remote as Jose Mourinho's side continue to fight for silverware.

Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer is close to signing a one-year new deal with Chelsea.

The backup goalkeeper played in some very important games last season coming in for the injured Petr Cech and Jose Mourinho wants him to return to the club for another year. Chelsea are expected to go with either Cech or Thibaut Courtois in goal next season and Schwarzer will once again be a backup. He can be a great fantasy choice if Chelsea's primary goalkeeper suffers an injury at any point in the season.

Chelsea XI against Arsenal in Capital One Cup: 23 Mark Schwarzer; 28 Cesar Azpilicueta, 24 Gary Cahill, 4 David Luiz, 34 Ryan Bertrand; 5 Michael Essien (c), 12 John Mikel Obi; 22 Willian, 10 Juan Mata, 15 Kevin De Bruyne; 29 Samuel Eto'o.

Jose Mourinho made 10 changes from the squad that faced Manchester City over the weekend and played mostly backups against Arsenal in the Capital One Cup. The cup is becoming less and less important every year and managers tend to rest their stars during Capital One Cup matches. Expect a completely different lineup in the Premier League this weekend.

Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer kept a clean sheet against Swindon but has been axed by the Australian national team.

Schwarzer is 40 years old now and past his prime. He's at Chelsea as a backup and it's not a surprise he's no longer with Australia after conceding six goals earlier this month against Brazil. His backup status at Chelsea makes him fantasy irrelevant but he could be a great cheap choice if Petr Cech was to come down with an injury.

Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has joined Chelsea on a one year deal.

Chelsea needed a second goalkeeper and Schwarzer will be backing up Petr Cech next year. I don't see a scenario where Schwarzer beats Cech to the starting spot, in part because he is nowhere near as good and is 40 years old, a bit past his prime. With that in mind, he had 36 starts last season and showed he can still play, so if Petr Cech goes down with an injury, Schwarzer will be a good, cheap goalkeeper option behind the strong Chelsea defense.

Fulham have thinned the ranks markedly heading into the off-season with veterans Mark Schwarzer, Chris Baird, Mahamadou Diarra, Mladen Petric, and Georgios Karagkounis among the notable departures.

There are no tragedies here. Schwarzer was a great player but with the arrival of Maarten Stekelenburg from Roma Fulham have their alternative already lined-up. Players like Baird, Diarra, Petric, and Karagkounis made solid contributions but will likely make way for younger and cheaper players in next season's squad.

Fulham G Mark Schwarzer is uncertain of his future after not being approached about a new contract.

Schwarzer's current deal runs only through the summer, making him a free agent in a month's time. The 40-year-old is seeking playing time in hopes of contending for the top keeper spot on Australia's national team. He has not been assured of a first-team football at Fulham, however.
