Demba Ba is close to finalizing a move to Turkish club Besiktas as he is deemed surplus at Chelsea.
Chelsea struggled at the striker position last year and Ba had trouble finding a spot in the rotation. With Chelsea bringing in Diego Costa, Ba wasn't expected to have much playing time, if any. Besiktas are reportedly willing to cover the majority of Ba's wages and the contract will include a clause that allows the Turkish club to buy Ba at the end of the season. Chelsea are also discussing the possibility of bringing in Didier Drogba as a player-coach next season. Drogba is 36 and will likely be used off the bench in a role similar to the one he took with the Ivory Coast this summer. Jul 14 - 12:53 PM

Demba Ba has admitted that Jose Mourinho has asked him to remain at Chelsea and that he will get a bigger role next season.

Ba only started six matches in all competitions this year and featured 23 times off the bench. He scored 8 goals. Ba received a bigger role towards the end of the season after injuries ruled out both Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto'o. He took advantage of those opportunities and scored important goals against Paris Saint Germain, Swansea, and Liverpool. With Chelsea reportedly signing Diego Costa, Ba will probably hold a reserve job again next season. The good news is that Samuel Eto'o is likely not coming back and there are rumors that Fernando Torres may also leave the club, implying Ba could be the primary back-up. As a primary back-up, Ba could easily get double digit starts in all competitions next year.

Chelsea stunned Liverpool at Anfield with a 2-0 win to get themselves back into the title race.

Chelsea played a tactically brilliant match which consisted of defending and counter attacking Liverpool. Demba Ba scored during added time in the half by taking advantage of a slip-up by Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. Willian added the second goal in added time at the end of the match on a counter-attack with Fernando Torres. The title race is wide open once more. Manchester City are now in a position to win it all if they go undefeated for the rest of the season while Chelsea have to rely on Liverpool making another mistake. One thing is certain, the race will go down to the last minute.

Chelsea were not their sharpest today, but Demba Ba scored the only goal they would need to take the points and keep pace in the title race with a 0-1 win.

The Blues were without Eden Hazard and Frank Lampard in their squad, and Mourinho gave Ba a rare start. They did not show much chemistry in their attack on the whole during the match, but an early sending off of Chico Flores provided the advantage necessary to finally break the Swansea defense in the second half. Ba found himself isolated with Ashley Williams, went left, shot with the left foot and found the back of the net for his fourth league goal of the season. Their defense meanwhile kept things tidy against 10 men and continue to be a reliable fantasy source.

A late Demba Ba goal sent Chelsea into the Champions League semi-finals on away goals.

Chelsea finished the tie 3-3 against Paris Saint-Germain but go on to the semi-finals by having an extra away goal. The other Chelsea goal came from Andre Schurrle. Both goals were scored by substitutes as Schurrle came on in the first half to replace the injured Eden Hazard and Demba Ba came on in the second half to replace Frank Lampard. Hazard's injury could be a huge blow for Chelsea if he is forced to miss any time and we will update you as soon as we know more information.

Jose Mourinho confirmed that Demba Ba will not be leaving Chelsea in January with Fernando Torres expected to miss time due to injury.

"We decided not to open the door to him [to leave] because he is a good player and we need him. The next few weeks is Demba and Samuel and I hope they do well for us. It's a pity because Nando (Torres) is in a good moment, but it's time for Demba. Demba had a fantastic week; (it was) very difficult for me to leave him out of selection because he worked very, very well. Next matches is for Demba or Samuel. Let's go." Chelsea will take on West Ham in a favorable home matchup on January 29. Whether or not Ba gets the start over Eto'o still remains to be seen, but looks a bit unlikely given Samuel's recent form.

Chelsea are prepared to offer Demba Ba to Inter Milan in January if it helps bring midfielder Fredy Guarin to Stamford Bridge.

It is believed that Chelsea will have to pay around £15 million to acquire the Colombian star from Italy, but recent discussions between the two teams include a new twist. Inter have expressed interest in the availability of 28-year old striker, Ba, who hasn't played much for Jose Mourinho's side since joining the team (from Newcastle) last January. Ba finished the 2012-13 season with 15 goals a four assists, but 17 weeks into the 2013-14 season the Senegal international has one goal and three assists in 286 total minutes. Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o and Ba have all split time up top, but Torres is the favorite right now.

Demba Ba's goal gave Chelsea a 1-0 win over Steaua Bucharest that ensured the Blues finish top of the table in Champions League Group E.

Jose Mourinho started an odd lineup that featured some surprises, such as Demba Ba at striker and Mark Schwarzer at goalkeeper. Chelsea had already qualified and they only had the top spot to play for so that explains some of the decisions. Ba has played well as of recently and is now in the mix of Chelsea strikers fighting for playing time. Schwarzer, on the other hand, will almost certainly head back to the bench on Saturday.

Demba Ba could play a bigger role for Chelsea during the next month because of the injury of Samuel Eto'o and his good performance against Southampton.

Ba came on as a sub against Southampton and brought a lot of energy that resulted in him scoring a goal. Samuel Eto'o is still out with an injury and Chelsea play two more games in the next five days so Demba Ba could play a significant role along with Fernando Torres. Don't be surprised to see each one start one of the two upcoming games and log in heavy minutes.

West Ham will likely pursue Chelsea striker Demba Ba after Andy Carroll suffered a new setback.

Andy Carroll is going through yet another setback and it's unclear when the striker will return, so the Hammers are going after Chelsea's third string striker. Ba hasn't played much as he's behind Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto'o and will likely be on his way out this January, making this a very possible deal.

Valencia are interested in acquiring Demba Ba for a fee in the vicinity of £7million during the January transfer window.

Demba Ba was almost sold during the summer but Jose Mourinho didn't want to sell him to Arsenal after they acquired Mesut Ozil since they would become too good. Valencia are no threat to Chelsea and the two clubs have worked together often, most recently in the Oriol Romeu loan. Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto'o will continue being responsible for Chelsea's striker duties.

Chelsea have signed Christian Atsu from FC Porto on a £3.5m deal but have immediately loaned him out to Vitesse Arnhem on a season-long loan.

Atsu is a winger / striker and has been loaned out because Chelsea are extremely deep at those positions. He is a young player who has a long way to go until he can play for Chelsea, but this is a long term investment and he will get plenty of chances to prove himself at Vitesse Arnhem.

Newcastle United have bid 1 million pounds to be able to loan former striker Demba Ba from Chelsea.

Ba is now probably fourth choice at Chelsea with the signing of Samuel Eto'o. Chelsea want at least 3 million to let him go on loan, and Newcastle aren't the only club in the running. It would be interest if he were to return to the club where he and Papiss Cisse scored goals, but never forged a real partnership.

Chelsea are considered to be very close to signing Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto'o for a fee of about £4m.

Eto'o has played under Mourinho before at Inter and the Chelsea boss is fond of the striker. The Blues have been looking for a striker all summer and are settling for Eto'o after missing out on several bigger names. The signing of Eto'o is not final yet but he is in London for a medical and many believe the deal will be signed tomorrow. The signing of Eto'o would mean one of Chelsea's other stirkers, Ba, Torres, or Lukaku, would likely be on the way out.
