Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon has confirmed that he will be ready for GW1 after his first appearance of the close season during Wednesdays’ win 2-1 over Toronto FC.
Pantilimon has been sidelined since May after picking up a knee injury during the draw with Arsenal at the Emirates – a result which guaranteed the Black Cats PL status for another year. Pantilimon started the 2014/15 campaign as a No.2 on Wearside playing second fiddle to Vito Mannone but following back-to-back defeats in October - which included an 8-nil drubbing at St Mary’s - the Romanian stopper was called into action and didn’t look back registering 11 clean sheets in his 28 starts. Danny Graham and Connor Wickham missed the final game of the North American tour but their problems are only believed to be minor, however Jordi Gomez isn’t progressing as hoped – fractured patellar – and could be out until September. Goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon posts some surprisingly good stats despite Sunderland’s dire season…

Another day, another player that north-east rivals Sunderland and Newcastle ‘do battle’ over. The latest is Chelsea’s Marco van Ginkel. The Dutch International – one of a sizeable migration mooted to be flocking towards the Stadium of Light this summer – spent last season on loan at AC Milan and is similarly available again. One battle that has already been won is in goal. Despite both clubs suffering dire seasons, the records of their respective Goalkeepers could scarcely be more different. Sunderland’s Costel Pantilimon’s 11 clean sheets from 28 matches (39%) was only bettered by two in the PL – Arsenal’s David Ospina (another surprise) and Southampton’s Fraser Forster (both 44%). While Newcastle’s Tim Krul came in at the opposite end of the spectrum, returning the PL’s worst goals conceded figures (1.56 per match). With improvement expected, Pantilimon is a Goalkeeper for Fantasy Managers to file under ‘value’.

Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon will miss the upcoming Euro qualifier against Northern Ireland after failing to recover from a knee injury.

Pantilimon was superb during the goalless draw at the Emirates in GW37 securing a point which guaranteed Sunderlands' top flight status for another season but the performance came at a cost as the Black Cats number one picked up an injury which has ruled him out of the final game at Stamford Bridge. Although the problem is not thought to be serious the Romanian national side will take no risks with the game only 10 days away. Pantilimon won a regular spot in the Sunderland line-up back in November after taking over from Vito Mannone and the stopper was one of the stand-out performers during his 28 BPL starts.

Costel Pantilimon will not be risked in gameweek 38 with a knee injury.

Sunderland have successfully avoided relegation and there is zero reason for them to risk their goalkeeper with a knee injury. The injury is not supposed to be very serious and shouldn't be a problem for next season. Vito Mannone is expected to start for the first time this year but is not a good fantasy option against Chelsea.

Sunderland are again safe for another season in the Premier League after holding Arsenal scoreless at the Emirates.

Costel Pantilimon made a strong save on Theo Walcott late and stood up to Arsenal pressure for the entire match as Sunderland got the point they needed for survival. Sunderland conceded possession for most of the match and we're content to absorb Arsenal pressure. For the most part they handled it well. Olivier Giroud forced a couple of good saves from Pantilimon and Walcott forced the lanky goalkeeper to go low to his right to save a hard-driven ball in the late going. The draw leaves Hull City and Newcastle as the only two candidates for relegation heading into the final day of matches on Sunday.

Sunderland rode a Costel Pantilimon clean sheet to a nil-nil draw that saw them inch slightly closer to safety and another season in the Premier League.

Sunderland have looked as good as dead at times this season but they have been coming up big down the stretch for the second straight season and look likely to have secured their safety again. Losses by Hull City and Newcastle mean that Sunderland need only one more point, or a loss from either of those other clubs in Week 38, to secure a spot in the top flight for another season. Costel Pantilimon was the hero as he kept a clean sheet and ensured that the Leicester City run of wins didn't make it to seven out of eight.

Chelsea were kept scoreless for the first time this season by Sunderland and goalkeeper Pantilimon.

The two teams finished in a 0-0 draw in what was a fairly uneventful match. Sunderland deserved a point in this one as they did everything they could to frustrate Chelsea. The Blues went back to what hurt them the most last year - losing points against lesser teams - although this year the narrative is different since they still have a seven point lead at the top of the table. This was Sunderland's second 0-0 result in a row and third consecutive draw.

Leicester City and Sunderland ended their week 12 match in a 0-0 draw.

The two teams left frustrated as they couldn't score on each other. The two players who came on top were goalkeepers Costel Pantilimon and Kasper Schmeichel. Leicester seem to have switched positions with Burnley, as they haven't scored in over eight hours of Premier League action while Burnley are now pouring in goals out of nowhere. Despite the draw, both teams remain outside of the relegation zone, but neither is safe.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has hinted that he is ready to drop Vito Mannone and offer Costel Pantilimon an opportunity to shine.

Mannone was superb last season but it's been a difficult campaign for the Black Cats so far and the keeper has put in two especially horrible performances in a row against Southampton and Arsenal. Pantilimon deserves a chance to show the manager what he can do, but this news won't have any impact on fantasy managers, who should be wisely avoiding Sunderland players until the side shows signs of turning their form around.

Sunderland have signed Manchester City goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon.

Pantilimon came in to City's lineup a few times last year when Joe Hart was struggling and seems to have made a big enough impression to be brought in as a starter. Pantilimon has stated he wants to start and it sounds like he has been promised a starting spot ahead of Vito Mannone. Sunderland showed huge improvement towards the end of last season and Pantilimon could be a sneaky fantasy choice when the matchup is right next season.

Costel Pantilimon will start for Manchester City against CSKA Moscow and presumably at Sunderland as well.

What Manuel Pelligirini will do after the international break is anyone's guess, but for now it seems that he's decided to go with the Romanian keeper and give Joe Hart an extended time out of the firing line.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is undecided who will start Saturday's Premier League game against Norwich in goal after Costel Pantilimon's display in Wednesday's win over Newcastle.

Pantilimon made two fine saves as City won the Capital One Cup tie 2-0 - their first clean sheet in seven games - and with Joe Hart producing numerous errors over the past 18 months it could be time for a wake-up call. We'll know more once team news is announced on Friday.
