Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of completing the signing of Nemanja Matic, but rumours are circulating that the deal will not end the club's interest in Fabinho.
Matic and Fabinho have both been heavily linked with United in recent weeks along with Eric Dier as the club explore options to replace veteran midfielder Michael Carrick. However, now that Matic's arrival appears to be a foregone conclusion, United will still be pursuing Monaco's young midfielder. The Independent explain that José Mourinho seeks Fabinho not just for his midfield talent, but also because he can provide the squad with another option in the right-back slot. United primarily relied on converted winger Antonio Valencia in the role last term. Thus, United will seemingly continue their interest in plundering the Champions League semi-finalists for their talented and versatile Brazilian, while the rest of Europe's elite target those teammates of his who have not yet been snapped up. Manchester United full-back Antonio Valencia has signed a new contract which will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2019, with an option to extend that by a further 12 months.

The Ecuadorian right-back arrived at United in 2009 from Wigan originally as a midfielder. In the last few years he has undergone a transformation to become one of the PL's best right-backs to the extent that he has put pen to paper on this deal just months after being rewarded with an extension to his previous contract in January. United manager José Mourinho hailed the news that United's Players' Player of the Year would be at Old Trafford for longer: "... I truly believe it is a real privilege for us to have such a good player and such a good man. I am delighted he has extended his contract." Valencia appeared 44 times for the Red Devils this season, scoring once against Middlesbrough. "Manchester United has been my life since 2009 and I am absolutely delighted to have signed a new contract," he said in the club's official statement.

Manchester United full-back Antonio Valencia is expected to retake his place in his side's starting 11 on Thursday.

United will travel to Belgium to face Anderlecht in the first-leg of their Europa League quarter-final at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium. Manager Jose Mourinho divulged some early team news ahead of the encounter after United's comfortable victory over Sunderland on Sunday. He revealed that the Ecuadorian is expected to be fit for selection for the tie and he said that Sergio Romero is likely to hold onto his place between the sticks even though De Gea's current injury is "not serious". Mourinho will give updated injury news in a press conference on Wednesday.

Manchester United have triggered a clause in the contract of right-back Antonio Valencia to extend his contract until the summer of 2018.

Valencia's contract was due to expire in the summer. Valencia, who is now 31, arrived at Old Trafford from Wigan back in 2009 as a winger. He has since been converted to a wing-back by Louis Van Gaal after being introduced to the role by Alex Ferguson. Valencia has been a stalwart for Jose Mourinho since arriving at the club, figuring 26 times for the side. That total is only exceeded by key men Ibra, De Gea and Pogba.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will be forced to change his defence after Antonio Valencia picked up his first yellow card of the campaign and will now be suspended.

The right back will miss the midweek visit to Selhurst Park in GW16. Hence, the back line of Valencia, Jones, Rojo and Darmian which had coped well in the last four league games will have to be unseated. Luke Shaw may return to the side on the left and force Darmian to be swapped to the right. Elsewhere, Mkhitaryan will have to be replaced and one would presume Carrick will be benched also.

Antonio Valencia will spend some time on the sidelines after going under the knife.

Matteo Darmian came in for his first Premier League start of the season after Manchester United confirmed via their official Twitter feed that: ‘Antonio Valencia has a fracture in his arm and will have surgery today. It appears that Valencia may have suffered the injury during the EFL Cup win over fierce rivals City on Wednesday when the right-back was spotted playing in a small protective cast. There was no indication as to the severity of the injury during the build-up to game week ten, and consequently we have no timeline currently on how long he could be out. Chris Smalling [muscular] and Anthony Martial [foot] were also absent against Burnley but United did welcome captain Wayne Rooney back onto bench while youngster Marcus Rashford was passed fit after recovering from a minor thigh injury. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is training with the group but Jose Mourinho feels the player needs more time to settle and build fitness.

All of a sudden, Manchester United defenders and goalkeeper David De Gea appear to be toxic assets in fantasy football squads.

Today's 3-1 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road capped off a horrendous week for the Red Devils, who had looked so commanding before the derby only a week ago. However, this week, they have conceded 5 goals while playing near enough full strength sides. Watford's energetic press ruffled the United defence who appeared disorganised. Both Capoue and Zuniga scored from unmarked positions, with Shaw especially out of position in the lead up to the Colombian's strike. Sell up your assets, Liverpool, Leicester and Chelsea await the Red Devils in their next 4.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho confirmed that the status of three South American players is up in the air for Saturday.

Goalkeeper Sergio Romero and defenders Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo won't return from international duty until Friday due to World Cup qualifiers, meaning they are major doubts to face Manchester City in the Manchester derby showdown between Mourinho and Pep Guardiola. Said Mourinho: "It will be a complicated process but we know it is like this when we have these players. And I would love all of the players to go because it would mean that everybody is being selected for their national teams."

Antonio Valencia made a brief return to the pitch last weekend in the win over Everton and will look to expand his participation in Week 33.

The right sided player came on in the 82nd minute for Daley Blind last weekend as Manchester United closed out their victory over the Toffees. With Blind potentially out and United still struggling in the wide defensive areas, it is possible that Valencia will be given a start or at least a meatier substitute role in Week 33. It isn't advisable to count on significant minutes but if you're desperate for a defender in a draft-style league then he might be available and productive.

Antonio Valencia has been training for a week and Louis Van Gaal has stated that he's likely ready for a place on the bench against Liverpool.

The Red Devils got Matteo Darmian back to strengthen the right side of their defense last weekend and it looks like Antonio Valencia will follow in mid-week. After being declared fit at at least some level heading into Week 29, Valencia didn't even earn a place on the bench for the 1-0 loss to West Brom. That should change in mid-week with Valencia having spent more time training and getting closer to match-fit.

Valencia, who has been out after foot surgery since early November, has been declared fit and could feature as soon as Week 29 against West Brom.

As with teammate Phil Jones, Antonio Valencia is medically ready to play. The question with both defenders is how eager Louis Van Gaal is to mess with a starting line-up that has been winning. One would never have guessed that there would be a serious conversation about whether to start Guillermo Varela over Valencia but after two strong performances from Varela and with Valencia rusty, the conversation doesn't seem as crazy. Look for LVG to ease Valencia back into the line-up over the next few weeks.

While there weren't many details, Louis Van Gaal said that there was a "light at the end of the tunnel" for long term absentees Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo.

As soon as it looks like Antonio Valencia might be back for the Red Devils, Matteo Darmian has been playing some of his best football of the year. He was one of United's best players last weekend against Chelsea. The return of Valencia will, at a minimum, create much-needed depth. Valencia's return to the starting line-up, which looked like a certainty as recently as a few weeks ago, is looking less likely with every successive strong outing from Darmian.

Antonio Valencia has successfully undergone foot surgery and the Ecuador international is expected to miss the up-to five months.

Valencia picked up an unspecified foot issue during the first half of last months’ Manchester derby but carried on playing until the 81st minute, a decision which is now believed to have exacerbated the problem. Specific details of the foot complaint – and procedure - are still unknown but the 30-year-old could be ruled out until at least April, 2016. Having already lost Luke Shaw – double leg fracture – Louis van Gaal may be forced into the transfer market during the January window with limited options at left-back. Summer acquisition Matteo Darmian will provide cover while Ashley Young is another option but with the United well placed in the Premier League and having already progressed to the next phase of the Champions League, the Dutchman may look for reinforcements.

Antonio Valencia is a question mark for the visit of West Bromwich Albion on Saturday as he continues to recover from a foot injury.

With Matteo Darmian out suspended, Valencia would have a clear path to the starting job at right back if he were healthy. If he can't recover from his foot injury in time to start on Saturday then Louis Van Gaal will likely be forced to play a makeshift line-up. For the match with CSKA Moscow in mid-week Van Gaal went with Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Chris Smalling, and Ashley Young and those players are all available again with Phil Jones as a possibility as well.

Antonio Valencia will miss his second consecutive match for Manchester United after leaving the Manchester Derby injured.

Presumably the logic in bringing Valencia into the starting line-up for the derby was to use his speed to counter that of Raheem Sterling of Manchester City. The strategy worked to at least some extent as United held Sterling and City without a goal. With a bunch of fast and powerful wings featuring for Crystal Palace this weekend, Valencia might have earned a second start but it won't happen as his foot injury will cause him to miss out. Matteo Darmian will return to the starting eleven and United will have to hope he can keep up with the pace of Bolasie, Zaha and Sako.
