Today's feature players in the summer drama "Who will Louis van Gaal buy?" are Dutch attacking midfielder Wesley Sneijder and Brazilian defender Miranda.
Let's see, one player from a team that played yesterday (Miranda, although he just missed out on the squad) and another (Sneijder) who plays today - that seems about right for tying the Manchester United rumor mill to all of the headlines from the World Cup. The big surprise here is that there is a name, Miranda, who has never even come close to playing for Louis van Gaal at either the club or international level. The other odd part of this dual rumor is the age of the two players - Miranda is 29 and Sneijder is 30. Not exactly the makings of a long term overhaul after leaving old guard members Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, and Ryan Giggs behind this summer. Jun 18 - 10:47 AM

Nemanja Vidic will return from his one match ban that he served against Manchester City.

Vidic was sent off for a second yellow during Manchester United's match against Liverpool and he served a one match suspension in United's last game. Manchester's defense has been horrible this season but Vidic comes at a price of £ 6.03M. In a home match against a mediocre team, Vidic can certainly do enough to match his value. With that being said, he is a risky option that should be avoided by those who like to play it safe.

Nemanja Vidic was sent off after his second booking when he was charged with fouling Daniel Sturridge in the penalty area, summarizing a nightmare day for Manchester United as they fell to Liverpool 0-3.

As bad as a result as you can imagine for David Moyes. In a game at Old Trafford, to concede three penalties, and to not score against a Liverpool side who are not known this season for their defensive clout, it truly was an ugly afternoon for the Red Devils. Rafael was lucky to not get sent off first with a deliberate handball, but it still resulted in the opening goal. Then after a series of miscues, the defining moment came with the Vidic red, as there appeared to be minimal contact and a penalty seemed harsh. After such a strong performance from United defenders last week, hopefully fantasy managers avoided the land mine that was the Red Devil defense today.

Nemanja Vidic's rumored summer move to Inter Milan has been confirmed with the Italian club posting a picture of the defender signing his contract on their Twitter feed.

Manchester United face a summer of great turnover with at least three defenders who have started matches recently - Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, and Patrice Evra - likely out the door. Setting aside needs in midfield and the presence of two unsettled forwards in RvP and Chicharito, United could find themselves in need of an entirely new starting back line. David Moyes hasn't seemed to put much faith in Rafael, Jonny Evans hasn't been consistent or consistently healthy and Phil Jones has played as a holding midfielder as often as he has played in defense. Did we mention it was going to be an interesting summer at Old Trafford?

Nemanja Vidic has served his three-match suspension and will be available to face Fulham at the weekend.

Vidic is well-priced after his red card, and despite Manchester United's struggles, he's a good bet against bottom of the table Fulham. With Phil Jones and Jonny Evans injured, he will slot straight back into the side.

Nemanja Vidic was sent off late in the game for a nasty tackle on Eden Hazard.

Vidic's red card was certainly deserved as the tackle was extremely dangerous and disrespectful. It was followed by another nasty challenge by Rafael but the Brazilian got away with only a yellow. Vidic and Rafael's decisions sum up the state of Manchester United at the moment. They are frustrated with the results and are underperforming under new manager David Moyes. Moyes' seat has been warm the whole season but a performance like this definitely adds a little extra heat. United have few positives to take away from this game and will need to regroup and turn things around completely if they want to win points in their next game. The returns of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie should help, but they won't solve all the problems.

Nemanja Vidic is available again for Manchester United, but may not walk right back into the side. David Moyes has "five centre-halves... and you are going to have to play well to stay in the team."

Phil Jones and Jonny Evans helped shut out Aston Villa, and the pair could be given the opportunity to forge a partnership in the next few matches. Of course rotation over the festive period is a given so the likes of David De Gea may be a better way to cover the United defence over their upcoming run of matches.

Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Chris Smalling and Marouane Fellaini may all join Michael Carrick and Robin van Persie in missing out on United's trip to Aston Villa.

None of the four doubts have been ruled all the way out so the best way to characterize the United defense for Week 16 is as an uncertain mess in the eyes of fantasy managers. David De Gea and Wayne Rooney are sure to start but who lines up between the two is a bit of a crap shoot with the exception of Phil Jones. What's worse, the uncertainty also undermines any proper valuation of United's defense for fantasy purposes. If Evra and Vidic are absent or playing in a diminished capacity then it's hard to put much value on any of United's defenders or De Gea. If both are healthy then you might put some hope in a rare road clean sheet against a Villa team that has been struggling this season.

Nemanja Vidic won't be available for Manchester United against Bayer Leverkusen. The defender is still recovering from a concussion suffered in a run-in with David De Gea.

Vidic was supposedly ready for the Cardiff match last weekend, and now misses United midweek tie. The club is taking no precautions with this head injury, and we may not know when Vidic will be back until he is.

Nemanja Vidic, who suffered a concussion after clashing with keeper, David De Gea, will be available for Manchester United as they visit Cardiff City.

Vidic's return is timely as Phil Jones is out with an injury suffered on international duty. The big Serb will likely partner Jonny Evans at the back for United.

Nemanja Vidic was concussed in a clash with David De Gea. The defender was taken off before half-time and admitted to the hospital. He's since been released, but his availability is still in question.

The international break should give Vidic enough time to recover, but he'll need clearance from the medical staff before he's even available to train again.

Rumors over the last two days have Manchester United getting closer to a deal for Ezequiel Garay while Bayern Munich create a spot for him by chasing Nemanja Vidic.

This is an interesting time for Vidic and Manchester United. He was so-so last season due to injury but when healthy he was still first choice. If a club like Bayern is interested and willing to pay big dollars this may be the last chance for United to cash in on the 32 year-old. If both moves happen then Garay would be in line to be the anchor of United's central defense likely partnering with Evans most of the time with Ferdinand and Smalling the deputies and Phil Jones as a holding midfielder/deputy CB and RB.
