Burnley hit a bit of an injury crisis in recent days but two key starting defenders, Matt Lowton and Ben Mee, will be fit to return to action against Brighton on Saturday.
Both players have been absent with knee injuries, with Lowton having missed the previous four games and Mee the last two. Amazingly, without Tom Heaton, Lowton and Mee the last two games, the Clarets are still giving their opposition's attack headaches, coming off of consecutive clean sheets. Despite admirable deputizing from Phil Bardsley and Kevin Long, Lowton and Mee are expected to come straight back into the XI, barring a setback. Meanwhile, Stephen Ward, also with a banged up knee, is a doubt for the weekend, setting up a possible first league start for Charlie Taylor, though Bardsley is capable of playing on either side. Matt Lowton missed his first match of the season in Burnley's midweek win over AFC Bournemouth with a knock, putting his status for the weekend in doubt.

He picked up the knock a couple of days earlier in Burnley's loss to Arsenal and the knock was minor enough for the right back to not be completely ruled out before the win over the Cherries, so one would hope Lowton will be back in time for this weekend's trip to Leicester City. Veteran Phil Bardsley filled in well against AFC Bournemouth, marking the first time this year that the back four featured someone not named Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee or Ward.

Matt Lowton and Tom Heaton put in excellent performances to hold Middlesbrough to a 0-0 at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

The Clarets have Lowton and Heaton to thank for a share of the points. While Robbie Brady did hit the bar with a free-kick inside 15 minutes, Burnley struggled to threaten the Boro goal throughout the second-half. The home side however saw a handful of chances after the restart. Heaton was the first to produce heroics as he pushed away an overhead kick from second-half sub Alvaro Negredo, while Lowton then twice cleared off his own goal line to keep out a Stewart Downing free-kick before denying Daniel Ayala's header off the line. The result lifts Burnley to 12th in the table and eight points clear of the drop zone.

Matt Lowton has quietly been a stellar player for Burnley FC through the first four matches of the season.

It may not be expressed in the FPL format but Lowton is checking several statistical boxes in other fantasy formats, making him Burnley's most productive player so far this season. He logged six crosses against Hull City in Week 4 and the Clarets lost a clean sheet in the dying embers of the match. Burnley are going to have to lean on their defending as much as their attacking if they have designs on staying up in their second promotion in three years. The underlying stats should get the attention of FPL managers looking for a 4.5m option, as his crosses should translate to the occasional assist and he could dip into bonus point returns when Burnley get a positive result.

Matthew Lowton has signed a three year deal with Burnley.

The defender quit Aston Villa after he's been out of favor for months now and has decided to take this talents to relegated Burnley. This obviously means Lowton will not have any fantasy value and even if Burnley were to be promoted next season, he would not be a great fantasy choice in the future.

Matthew Lowton seems set to sign with relegated Burnley after a poor Aston Villa season.

Lowton was arguably Aston Villa's best player just a couple of seasons ago but it's all gone downhill from there and he only featured in 12 matches this year. The defender will be a quality starter at Burnley, who no longer play in the Premier League, and will act as Kieran Trippier's replacement. Whether or not the move is completed, avoid Lowton in fantasy at all costs.

Matthew Lowton can't find a place in the Aston Villa rotation and continues to struggle.

Lowton played in the absence of Alan Hutton but with the return of Hutton he has been relegated back to the bench. Lowton hasn't been able to stay on the pitch due to unimpressive play and is unlikely to be a fantasy option anytime soon barring injury. Continue to avoid him.

Matthew Lowton is determined to fight for his spot in the Aston Villa starting XI.

Lowton has struggled to keep a regular starting spot in Villa's rotation and has seen Leadro Bacuna take over his spot for periods of time. Lowton recently had a clear-the-air talk with Villa boss Paul Lambert and is ready to fight for his spot in the rotation. Avoid him in fantasy while there continues to be uncertainty about his role.

Matthew Lowton and Leandro Bacuna could both find a place in Aston Villa's squad, despite playing the same position.

Both Lowton and Bacuna play at the right-back position but Paul Lambert chose to play them both at the same time to finish off the game against Cardiff last time out. Lowton played at right-back while Bacuna played a more advanced role that freed him to create chances. A more advanced role for Bacuna should be good news for fantasy owners as he excels in creating chances and scoring goals.

Aston Villa right back Matthew Lowton has lost his place in the starting lineup but manager Paul Lambert believes Lowton should look at this as a challenge to overcome.

Lowton started 37 Premier League games last season and one of Villa's best players but started this season slow and has been benched the last three games in favor of new signing Leandro Bacuna. Lowton has the quality to regain his spot with hard work and it's probably just a matter of time until we see him out on the pitch again. Stay away from Lowton and Bacuna in the time being.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has given confidence to defender Matthew Lowton after leaving him out of the side during the Norwich game this past weekend.

Lowton has been one of Aston Villa's most consistent players since the start of last season but he was left out of the Norwich side because Lambert believes he's gotten a bit too comfortable. The Aston Villa manager reassured us that Lowton has not lost his place in the squad and he started him today in a 4-0 loss to Tottenham. Lowton should be a regular going forward.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has warned Matthew Lowton not to relax with all the praise he has gotten.

Lowton has performed well and has been praised for his play, but Lambert has reminded him to try to improve and continue working hard. Even with Villa signing a new centre-back, Lowton probably shouldn't worry about his starting spot unless his performance slows down.

Aston Villa have confirmed the transfer of Jores Okoro from FC Nordjaelland.

The transfer is reported to be around £4m and Okore is getting a four year deal at Villa Park. The Danish international can improve the Villa defense immediately at the centre-back position. Paul Lambert continues to improve his team so they don't have to fight to avoid relegation again.
