Schalke have agreed to a deal to sign Manchester City's Matija Nastasic on loan.
The agreement will run until the end of June when Schalke will have the option of making the transfer permanent. Schalke will reportedly pay a loan fee of around £1.6m to secure Nastasic's services on loan, while the buy-out clause is just over £10m. Nastasic has not played for City since August's Community Shield defeat to Arsenal and four center-backs are ahead of him in Manuel Pellegrini's plans. West Ham were also linked with the player, but manager Sam Allardyce gave up on a deal after being told Nastasic would prefer to leave the Premier League. Jan 13 - 6:23 PM

Manchester City are ready to sell Matija Nastasic to help fund their move for Swansea striker Wilfried Bony.

The 21-year-old Serbian was once regarded as one of Europe's brightest prospects but his development has been curbed by a series of injuries and he is now behind Vincent Kompany, Eliaquim Mangala, Martin Demichelis and Dedryck Boyata in the defensive pecking order. AC Milan and Schalke are among the parties interested in signing Nastasic. Milan prefer a loan option but City will demand about £13m, which would put Schalke in pole position. The champions are in the unfamiliar position of having to sell before they buy due to financial fair play restrictions. They need to make sure their total spend is not above £49m this season and that figure is already at £39m, so player sales are essential, and defender Nastasic appears likely to be among the first through the door. City remain in talks with Swansea over Bony and the Ivory Coast striker is expected to be unveiled at the Etihad before the end of the week if all goes well.

Defenders Matija Nastasic and Micah Richards, midfielder Scott Sinclair and striker John Guidetti look to be heading out of Manchester City.

While the departures of Richards, Sinclair and Guidetti are to be expected given their injuries / lack of impact over the past two seasons, the decision to allow Nastasic to leave is slightly surprising. The Serbian defender was first choice partner to Vincent Kompany for much of last season before injury let in Martin Demichelis and with Joleon Lescott leaving he could still have the chance to play an important squad role, despite Eliaquim Mangala's arrival. However, Manuel Pellegrini has stated he needs to trim his squad and wants to give Nastasic the chance to play football. "He is an important player, but he has offers and I think the best thing for him is to play. We will see what happens, but we have until the end of August to see what kind of offers we get."

With his chances for playing time severely curtailed by the arrival of Eliquim Mangala at the Etihad, rumors are circulating that Arsenal will look to bring in Nastasic to replace Thomas Vermaelen.

Based on what happened last season, a move from the Etihad to the Emirates may not yield much more playing time for Nastasic. Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny played enough minutes that Thomas Vermaelen didn't see a meaty enough role for himself leaving us to wonder why Nastasic, in dire need of regular game action, would feel any differently. It would be a great depth move for Arsenal but it seems unlikely the player would agree.

Manchester City's long-rumored move for French international Eliaquim Managala has finally become official.

In the eyes of many an improved partner for Vincent Kompany in central defense was Manchester City's number one priority this summer. While we've all known it was coming for some time, the Porto defender has finally completed his move to the Etihad. This likely means that Martin Demichelis becomes the third choice and Matija Nastasic may be moved out to recoup at least some of the Mangala transfer fee. After watching Arsenal rip City's reserve defense apart in the Community Shield, this will be good news indeed for City supporters. It should also be very interesting for fantasy managers depending on where the center back's price comes in.

There is word from The Sun that Roma center back Mehdi Benatia is an alternative to Eliaquim Mangala should Mangala's recent talk of staying put have legs.

Benatia had an exceptional season in his first season with Roma after his €13.5million move from Udinese. City would likely have to pay top dollar as the player only last year signed a five year deal which gives Roma a great deal of leverage if someone wants Benatia. With Joleon Lescott out of contract, Matija Nastasic having had a rough second season in Manchester, and Martin Demichelis older than dirt City finding someone to partner Vincent Kompany will be at the top of the priority list.

Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic is likely to miss the next three weeks with a calf injury.

Vincent Kompany is fit again after a thigh problem but will not be ready to play against Swansea, so this news about Nastasic means Martin Demichelis is certain to start alongside either Joleon Lescott or Javi Garcia. David Silva also remains on the sidelines while Joe Hart is set to be back on the bench after his Champions League outing.

Matija Nastasic faces a late fitness test ahead of Manchester City's match with Sunderland.

The dreaded "late fitness test" is not want you need to hear if you were considering Nastasic for your fantasy team. It seems like Martin Demichelis is the safer bet, with either Joleon Lescott or Javi Garcia to come in if Nastasic doesn't make it.

Matija Nastasic will be available to play against Hull City this weekend.

Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic will miss the first six weeks of the season with an ankle injury picked up in pre-season.

This is a big blow for Nastasic and his new manager Manuel Pellegrini, who has limited options in central defence. Joleon Lescott may get a rare chance to start some games in his absence, although the injury could push City to renew their interest in Real Madrid's Pepe.

Manchester City are waiting to discover the extent of defender Matija Nastasic's ankle injury suffered during Saturday's Asia Trophy final win over Sunderland.

Nastasic was carried from the pitch on a stretcher and in agony but there is no reports of how serious the injury may be. If there's a chance he could miss the start of the season then Joleon Lescott may get a rare chance to start some games, although a serious injury could see City renew their interest in Real Madrid's Pepe.
