Massadio Haidara is determined to be fit for Newcastle United at the start of next season, after the defender experienced a setback during his attempt to return from knee surgery.
An injury crisis for the Magpies, particularly at the left back position, played a part in Haidara's attempt to return more quickly than he should have. Haidara began last season as the preferred option over Paul Dummett and will look to contend for the position again in the Championship. Looking at the timetable for Haidara's return, Rafa Benitez will likely begin the season with Dummett rather than risk another setback for the Frenchman. Fri, May 20, 2016 01:16:00 PM

The injury carousel for Newcastle United continues as Massadio Haidara limped off during a U-21 match against Aston Villa last night.

Within 24 hours of news that Rolando Aarons being on crutches and that Rob Elliot is battling a thigh issue, now Haidara, who only recently returned to fitness, has a groin problem to contend with. Paul Dummett looks to have nailed down the left back spot and there hasn't been reason to back Haidara in any fantasy format at any point this season. Still, it is incredible how consistent the Magpies are smacked with injury blows week after week.

Massadio Haidara and Rolando Aarons, both having missed out in Week 7 with knee and calf injuries respectively, will miss out again tomorrow when the Magpies travel to The Etihad.

The absence of the duo last week didn't stop Newcastle from getting a somewhat positive display against leaky Chelsea, but their unavailability may be felt more against City, as the left back spot will likely be deputized again by the inexperienced Kevin Mbabu, who will be tasked to contain the dangerous Kevin de Bryune. Hopefully for Aarons, this will not be another lost season to injuries as he is in a critical stage of his development.

Newcastle could have a problem at left-back after Massadio Haidara picked up a knee injury during Saturdays’ home defeat to Watford.

Steve McClaren confirmed Haidara would be assessed ahead of the Capital One game v Sheff Wednesday but there is a good chance the 22 year-old could miss out meaning he faces a race against time to recover for the PL game with Chelsea this weekend. With Paul Dummett already sidelined [hamstring] and not expected to be back until October the Magpies are short of options as Shane Ferguson is currently on loan at Millwall. Vurnon Anita has provided cover previously but that may leave United exposed centrally as Jack Colback has also picked up a knock. Rolando Aarons could be deployed on the left but there are concerns regarding the player’s general fitness having struggled for the past 2-seasons with hamstring and thigh problems.

Newcastle United were able to edge Sacramento Republic 0-1 though left back Massadio Haidara was given a straight red card for a harsh challenge.

Haidara was said to have given a high tackle but new boss Steve McClaren didn't see it that way and let his frustration be known in no uncertain terms. A similar call could have gone against Sacramento, but was left unpunished. The only goal came via a Sacramento own goal, but Rolando Aarons looked fit and Georginio Wijnaldum made his debut with a twenty minute substitute appearance. Newcastle will now head up the US West Coast to take on Portland Timbers Tuesday night.

Newcastle have been dealt a further defensive blow after it was confirmed Massadio Haidara will miss the remainder of the campaign after undergoing knee surgery in Lyon.

It was hoped that Haidara would be back in May following injections to help manage an ongoing knee complaint however the injury has not responded to treatment leaving the player with no alternative other than to go under the knife. Haidara joins defenders Paul Dummett and Steven Taylor – out for the season – while Fabricio Coloccini is currently serving a three match ban. Ahead of next weekends’ Wear / Tyne derby Newcastle will be hoping for at least one returner as Mehdi Abeid steps up his recovery from a thigh strain with Rolando Aarons [hamstring] also due to join the group on Monday.

Massadio Haidara has already been ruled out by John Carver for Newcastle United's match against Arsenal this weekend as the manager is desperate to field a full squad.

It is going to be a patchwork side and perhaps a long day at the office for Newcastle United. With only one fit natural center back with any experience, the thought was that youngster Lubimor Satka would get his first start, but Carver has hinted that the "young boys aren't ready yet". Instead, we may see Daryl Janmaat moved to center and inspirational figure Jonas Gutierrez occupy a fullback position opposite Ryan Taylor or Jack Colback shift there to allow Vurnon Anita space with Moussa Sissoko in central midfield. There are limited options available to Carver, but it is still difficult to predict which direction he goes.

Massadio Haidara has been ruled out of contention for Newcastle United when they travel to face Everton on Sunday.

This will mark the second league match missed by Haidara and there has been no clear timetable for his return. The left back spot can go one of two ways - with Jack Colback fit, he could potentially shift from his normal defensive midfield position and fill in, as he has top flight experience there during his days at Sunderland, or Ryan Taylor could occupy the role once again. For fantasy managers, the latter option would be ideal.

Massadio Haidara suffered a setback in training and is highly unlikely to feature for Newcastle United tomorrow evening when they host Manchester United.

Davide Santon would certainly come in handy right about now. The last thing the Magpies could afford was another casualty in defense but it is looking gloomy in that respect. This would almost have to give Ryan Taylor an opportunity to start unless they call up a youth player. Taylor played the final half hour over the weekend and grabbed double digit fantasy points in the process, with no goals or assists in that total - he is a fantasy darling in any fixture. He makes for a great differential in your XI this week.

Massadio Haidara has been solid contributor for Newcastle United as Alan Pardew has managed to do well with a stretched defensive unit.

Haidara has occupied the left back position for the past two matches while Paul Dummett has shifted to a center back role and even with defensive captain Fabricio Coloccini absent from the back line, the Magpies have managed to get the job done. Haidara actually outscored all other Newcastle defenders last week despite being available for a fraction of the cost in the Yahoo game. He is worth stashing and playing if you got him on the cheap, and is worth a play in plus matchups until the defense gets healthier and Pardew has to make some decisions.

Making his second straight start, defender Massadio Haidara salvaged a decent fantasy score despite Newcastle United being otherwise manhandled by Southampton in a 4-0 loss.

Haidara has been on the fringe of the Magpie XI the past couple of seasons and has been a bench-filling budget option with minimal fantasy appeal. After Paul Dummett looked to have secured the left back role when the season began, Haidara looks to have established a run in the starting lineup, providing the only bright spot in fantasy terms against the Saints. He managed a shot on target and a pair of successful crosses, promising attacking returns for a defender that can be had quite cheap.

Defender Massadio Haidara could only manage a half of football today on his return from a severe injury.

It is believed that Haidara pulled his hamstring. His replacement, Paul Dummett, left the match with an injury of his own. Davide Santon will be unchallenged at left back, with available to move over from the center if needed.

Fullback Massadio Haidara will make his long-awaited return from injury when Newcastle's U-21 side take on Fulham.

Haidara has been sidelined since last season, and Newcastle have had no cover for Davide Santon since then. His return will be a welcome addition to the Magpies' squad.

A hamstring injury has ruled Massadio Haidara out of France U-21 duty, but hopes to be fit for Newcastle United's pre-season training. "I am relying on being back on the first day of pre-season, ready to go again."

Haidara should expect to be second-choice to Davide Santon, but will be an important squad player for Newcastle.
